Book Description:

In Journey's End, we write about death, dying, and end of life issues. We attempt to define and describe these real-life circumstances, and we discuss ways to proactively deal with them. Multiple personal and professional perspectives provide valuable insights.

What is dying like for dying persons, for loved ones, and for those who lend support in the process? Each experience will have unique qualities. Everyone dies in his own way, on his own schedule. While we explore the dying process, we make no assumptions about how any particular death will unfold.

Grief and bereavement support, training tools, and educational resources are included.

Meet the Authors:

Victoria has a master of social work degree. She has worked as a case manager with older adults for the past seventeen years and as a group facilitator. Her past work experience was as a therapist with children and families, and as a case manager for adults with mental health issues. She just launched a consulting business, NorthernMSW to focus on end of life issues, planning, training, and advocacy, along with memoir writing and life legacy writing.

Julie was inspired equally by her professional backgrounds as a biomedical researcher and long time educator. Julie values open and lively discussions based on interview and research findings, trends in health and wellness, and exciting new modalities of treatment and professional education. She believes it will be through such discussions that we will create new and more satisfying cultural paradigms within which we may live all the days of our lives with dignity and quality of care.

Wrong by Jana Aston book blitz

Wrong
Jana Aston
Publication date: October 7th 2015
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

I have a history of picking the wrong guy. Gay? Player? Momma’s boy? Check, check and check.

Now I can’t stop fantasizing about one of the customers at the coffee shop I work at between classes. It’s just a harmless crush, right? It’s not like I ever see this guy outside of the coffee shop. It’s not like I’m going to see him while attempting to get birth control at the student clinic. While wearing a paper gown. While sitting on an exam table. Because he’s the doctor. Shoot. Me.

But what if, for once, the man I’ve had the dirtiest, most scandalous fantasies about turned out to be everything but wrong?

EXCERPT:

“Sophie, he’s going to be back for more. Trust me.”

I load a tray of cupcakes and slide them into the bakery case. “I don’t know, Everly. He’s really sophisticated and clearly lives a lifestyle a long ways from Cowbell Lane,” I say, referencing my grandparents’ home in Willow Grove.

“Bitch, please. The guy is pushing forty and you’re a hot co-ed with a brand-new tight, shiny pussy. He’ll be back.”

My eyes widen. “Everly, Jesus!”

“Just saying.” She holds her hands up in mock defense before breaking into a huge grin.

“You don’t really think he’s forty, do you?”

“He just turned thirty-six in August.”

“How do you know that?”

“Google.”

“You Googled him?”

“You didn’t?” Everly looks aghast.

“Uh, no.” Truthfully I thought about it, but I didn’t want to get any more invested in him than I already am.

“Well, look what the pussy dragged in.” Everly is smirking.

“Everly, that’s not the saying. It’s ‘cat.’ ‘Look what the cat dragged in.'”

“Oh, I think I’ve got the saying right. He’s here.”

My stomach explodes in nerves as I glance towards the door. Luke is here. I wondered if he’d stick to his normal Tuesday routine and stop here for coffee. I’ve figured out this Grind Me location is between his Rittenhouse Square condo and the student clinic, but it’s hardly the only route he could take or stop he could make.

My heart is beating so fast as I take him in. Is he going to speak to me or go back to just ordering coffee and leaving like he has the last several weeks?

He’s in a navy suit today, crisp white shirt and a silvery blue tie. And then my heart stops beating so fast. There’s a hand on his arm. I follow that hand to the redhead from Saturday night.

Publication date: July 19th 2017
Genres: Romance, Science Fiction, Young Adult

When Riley heads off to boarding school for a summer work-study program, she knows it’ll be demanding. What she doesn’t expect? To be thrust into an intense physical training program described as special, exclusive and worst of all–top-secret. She signed up for tuition assistance, not to be held in a secret government facility for boot camp…

Welcome to The Division, the government agency that’s so classified, most United States senators have never heard of it.

The Division wants Riley bad, but she can’t figure out why. Skeptical of what she’s being told, Riley’s determined to uncover the truth. Boot camp is intense, physically and mentally draining. The upside? One of her new teammates is the cutest boy ever. Watching Finn hit the gym wearing a tank top doesn’t suck–although sometimes his brooding attitude does. But when training forces Riley to confront her tragic past, even Finn’s big biceps aren’t enough to make her want to stay…

Beware: The Division isn’t something you just walk away from. You better run.

Riley realizes her capabilities and strengths are greater than she’d ever imagined. But she also learns she wasn’t just chosen for this special program…

She was made for it.

INTERVIEW WITH LEIGH WALKER

Q: Wow, you’re interviewing yourself…how pompous!

Right? It’s to tell people more about the series, lol. Although I should admit that I normally talk to myself a lot, so this isn’t much of a departure.

Q: Tell us about “The Division” – it’s a bunch of teenagers with psychic powers, right? How did you get inspired?

Everyone on the team has psychic powers, yes. I was watching “Stranger Things” on Netflix and I WAS SO PSYCHED they were testing poor Eleven for psychic powers. But I was also like, YEEHAW! Because I LOVE psychic powers, and I can’t remember the last time I saw or read something that included them. I’ve always been obsessed by the concept, and there’s so many variations of powers, so many incarnations it can take… Anyway, after watching that show and having that reaction, I thought, other people must love this stuff, too, I can’t be the only one. So I wanted to give us all more!

Q: Tell us about the main character, Riley Payne.

Riley is a ‘normal’ girl dealing with a lot. Her father and sister died in a car accident and her mother started drinking heavily after it happened. She just wants to get out of her house and go to boarding school, but she gets more than she bargained for when she abruptly gets recruited into a secret agency…

Q: The ‘secret agency’ is The Division, correct?

Yes. It’s a secret cell of teenagers who were genetically engineered with psychic gifts. They work for the American government to combat domestic terrorism.

Riley thinks they’re nuts, of course. Until she unlocks her powers, then she’s blown away by what she can do.

Q: As the series goes on, you get into genetic engineering, fated love, eco-terrorism, loyalty, isolation, human nature, climate change…some pretty heavy themes. But would you describe the series as a difficult read?

I don’t think so, but certainly some parts were hard to write – like about Riley missing her dad and her sister. I still cry when I read those parts. And in the second book, an eco-terrorist is introduced, and some terrible things happen in the book. So yeah, there’s definitely a heaviness to some of what the characters are dealing with. But they’re teenagers, and their youth is sort of a tonic against everything they’re dealing with. They still care about their friends. They still want to hang out, tell stories, joke around. They are still very interested in falling in love. I think my writing style is naturally light and breezy, so it’s sort of a counterpoint to the storyline. If that makes sense, lol.

Q: What’s your favorite part of this series?

Riley and Finn’s relationship. They have so much on their plates, and they’re so young, but they genuinely care for each other in a way that makes me ache.

Q: What do you do when you’re not writing?

I have three large, unruly boys who like to play every sport and eat as much food as possible. When I’m not at my computer, I’m busy carting them around and grocery shopping. But I also love to relax with a great book or television show – I am currently completely obsessed with Riverdale, OMG!!!

Thanks for having me! Happy reading!!!

Too bad Derry Stanton is her business. A frequent customer at the Platinum Club where she waits tables, and now the best man to her maid of honor in her sister’s wedding, the guy is everywhere. And pretty soon, she finds herself everywhere, too. In his arms, on his bed, between the sheets….

EXCERPT:

Jess Murphy walked through the wide doors into the opulent lobby below the Platinum Club, surprised by the butterflies fluttering in her stomach. The building was more luxurious than she’d expected, every inch of glass, steel, and marble gleaming like freshly minted coins. Well-dressed men and women hurried around her over the shiny floors.

“Can I help you?” asked a man from behind a vast reception desk decorated with fruit and flowers. He wore a black suit, had gray hair, and sounded like a British butler in a classic film.

“I’m Jessica Murphy,” she said. “I’m, uh, it’s my first night working at the Platinum Club.”

The man tapped something on his screen. “You are expected on eleven,” he said. “You can take either the public or the service elevator.”

She glanced at the posh lobby, the posh people. “I’ll take the service one. Where is it?”

He gestured at a side door behind him.

“Thank you,” she said, taking a deep breath as she walked across the marble floors.

Jess had to remind herself that this was only a waitressing job. There was no reason to be nervous; this wasn’t an important career move for her, just a way to pay for medical school. Because the club’s clientele was so elite, the job paid insanely well, and incoming staff members, at all levels, were screened meticulously.

In fact, she’d been hired almost a month ago, yet this was the first time she was stepping foot in the place. Instead of working tables right away, as she’d expected, she’d had to visit a notary and sign a dozen nondisclosure agreements—and then submit to a background check, personality test, and three phone interviews.

Now, finally, she could actually begin working.

She walked through a doorway into a space that looked older than the lobby, found a vintage-elevator call button, and popped a mint into her mouth as she waited for the car to arrive.

She could imagine her sister Lilah feeling exactly how Jess was feeling now, fighting her nerves on her first day as she thought of all the famous, powerful people upstairs.

Lilah had worked at the Platinum Club until last month, when she’d shacked up with her billionaire love god, Gavin Stanton. In fact, they were already planning their wedding. No more money worries for her.

No more worries of any kind, apparently.

The changes that had come over Lilah in the past couple of months made Jess uncomfortable. She was glad Lilah was happy, but it had happened much too fast. At one point, her sister had been so sex-crazed she’d claimed her rich boyfriend had turned into an animal.

Jess sighed. Lilah had always been too lusty for her own good, too easily enchanted by a pretty face.

Gavin Stanton certainly had that. And the rest of him wasn’t bad either. Not Jess’s type, but… not bad.

Shaking her head, Jess walked into the car—a gorgeous old thing with wood paneling—and pressed the button for the eleventh floor as instructed. Time to focus on the job at hand. Love was the last thing on her agenda. And sex was second to last. If she was going to survive the long slog through med school and internships to become a doctor, she couldn’t get distracted with trivialities. She had to keep her eye on the prize. Work, school, work, school, work. And more work.

The elevator stopped, not on the eleventh floor, but the tenth. Jess looked down at herself, uneasy with the tight jeans and T-shirt she wore. They’d told her the club would provide a uniform when she arrived. Hopefully whoever joined her in the elevator was just another wage slave, not anyone important in management. She wanted to make a good impression on her first day. Her impressively curvy figure looked respectable in formal clothes, but in a T-shirt, her F-cup chest had a knack for distracting people.

Damn, I should’ve worn a jacket. But it had been so hot today. Autumn in Boston could still get steamy.

The doors slid open, revealing an extremely tall, thickly muscular man with long black hair and bright blue eyes that slid over her body so thoroughly she sucked in a breath.

Talk about steamy. Now this guy was her type. He was huge. Dark. Powerful.

Dangerous.

She felt beads of sweat form at the small of her back, under her breasts, her arms. What had he bathed in that morning—testosterone? She could smell it. She could taste it. She couldn’t help sucking it in, breath after breath, eager for another hit.

A slow smile spread over his full, sensual lips. “Why, hello there,” he said. Was that a British accent?

Every alarm bell she had was clamoring so loudly in her head, she was amazed she’d been able to hear him speak.

“Hi,” she said, stepping aside instinctively. Getting too close to this man would be a mistake.

“I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure.” Oh, crap. It was a British accent. He held out a hand. “McDermott Stanton. My intimates call me Derry.”

Ghosts, Portals and Antidepressants: The
Time I Didn’t Sleep for 30 Days.

Have you ever done or said
something that you knew you would regret? Yeah we all have. But I did it on a
level of stupidity that garners national level gold member status.

There is a lesson I have put
together personally, antidepressants suppress my abilities as a medium. They
may do the same for you or your intuitive abilities. It’s not surprising is it.
It’s our brains, right? And at one point those little pills saved my sanity.

When I moved back to Tennessee in
2015 I suffered a major crisis of identity. I left a religion I’d been a part
of for almost fifteen years. I left a town that was so big I could network with
likeminded entrepreneurs for 20-40 hours a week if I wanted all within a couple
miles of my house. My oldest children moved out. And I started having dangerous
health problems.

At that time I did a lot of soul
searching and personal reflection. What I found was I had a lot of gifts that
I’d used all through my life. They just had different titles as my religion and
growth changed. But at the end of the day the truth for me was a I was a
medium, a psychic medium. I gave people advice and received ideas and little
promptings that went beyond what would be conceived “normal.”

After coming to this place of
understanding I sat on my porch off a little highway in rural Tennessee so
empowered by my revelation and so starved for identity I told the universe to
essentially,

 “Bring it on! I Could take it!”

Almost immediately a sense of
dread and oh shit hit me like a ton of bricks. Well at least I knew my alarm
system was in well order.

That was the first night over 30
days I didn’t sleep for more than 2 hours a night.  Every day and all night I kept hearing
spirits. In my head, I’d hear their voices. In sleep I’d relive their deaths.
In the day I felt constantly surrounded. Over time what started out as 1-5
spirits quickly became 50-100. I was so overwhelmed it was all I could do to
function and run my family and my business.
If you can’t already tell I think
I’m a badass. And when you act like that it’s hard to ask for help.

I smudged. I salted. I blessed. I
did everything you can imagine to take my space back. And it would work, for a
while. The problem was I hadn’t figured out the source of the water faucet of
activity I had turned on.

I slept in the living room with
the TV on. I could not sleep in my bedroom. At one point I got on medication.
They prescribed me Zoloft and Ambien and Trazadone to sleep. Even with this
combination of drugs I was only getting 1-2 hours rest a night. One time in a
desperate bid for sleep I did a couple shots of Vodka with Ambien. I slept 2
hours exactly. I do not suggest doing that.

Over time the Zoloft kicked in
and my level of anxiety diminished. It was like with sleep came clarity. One
day I sat down surrounded by burning sage and white candles and I walked my
entire house in my mind. What I learned was I had a big ass portal in my master
closet.

So no matter how many times I
smudged, blessed or salted if I didn’t close that door way they would continue
to come through. Just a big ole afterlife networking event at Bri’s house.
While I do love to host a part this was bullshit.

With the help of my friend, a
Kinetic Witch named Linna, I was able to close the portal. You need ceremony to
close portals. Since I was without any ideas I defaulted to her. It worked. But
I stayed on the meds.

Now 2 years later, off the meds,
I find myself in a 116 year old farmhouse with a portal in my hallway, 2
daughters with their own gifts, and a ghost named Thomas who says I need to do
a better job of cleaning house.

And guess what, I sleep at night.

What’s the difference? I accepted
my gifts first of all. Then I went out and got a coach. This woman changed my
life and showed me how to manage all my talents and utilize them for good.
Which also enabled me to help my daughters as well.

The adage is true. If you ever
want to develop, maintain, or control a skill hire a coach.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
“Here you go, a Strong Blonde for the strong blonde.” Randy set a glass of the local craft brew in front of her. It wasn’t her usual drink choice. She preferred a pale ale or an IPA after a long day on the river.
“I didn’t order this,” Fisher said with a smile.
“No. He did.” Randy nodded toward the guy on the end of the bar, who lifted a glass and flashed a killer set of dimples.
“Oh, okay.” Fisher felt heat creep across her cheeks. She took a sip and smiled at the stranger. He was kind of cute. No, he was very cute. Hot, actually. And he was walking toward her.
“Hi. I’m Kyle.” He offered a firm handshake. Warm, strong. Kind of tingly.
“Fisher.” She held up her glass. “Thanks for the drink.”
“Well, I wasn’t sure what to order, but then I saw you walk in and decided I was in the mood for a strong blonde.” He glanced down at her bare arms, well-sculpted from her years on the river. “And then I thought I’d try the beer.”
“Well, be careful,” Fisher warned. “Strong blondes can knock you flat on your back if you’re not used to them.”
“That’s what I was hoping for.” He grinned at her, lifted his glass, and took a long sip, not taking his eyes off her.
