Author Bio:

Leslie North is the pen name for a critically-acclaimed author of women's contemporary romance and fiction. The anonymity gives her the perfect opportunity to paint with her full artistic palette, especially in the romance and erotic fantasy genres.

The truth of the matter is she loves her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her normal, day-to-day persona! Her bestselling books focus on strong characters and particularly women who aren't afraid to challenge an alpha male. Inspired after years of travel, her stories are set all over the world, from the tough streets of Russia to the beautiful beaches of the middle east.

Leslie fell in love with romance when she first picked up a scrappy, dog-eared romance book from her local library. She began writing soon after and the rest, as they say, was history. She now lives in a cozy cottage on the British coast and enjoys taking long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.

She LOVES reader feedback, and if you have any comments, don't hesitate to contact her via e-mail: leslie@leslienorthbooks.com.

Book Description:

Psychic detectives Levi Wolfe and Trudy Tucker comb the streets of New Orleans in search of a serial killer who has claimed 19 lives and counting.

The suspect was in an accident almost two years ago that left him paralyzed in a wheel chair, but the murders continue. Is he faking it or has he enlisted a protégé to continue his reign of terror?

As Levi and Trudy draw closer to the truth, Trudy discovers new and unsettling psychic abilities in herself.

Excerpt:

“So, tell me
about your experience,” Trudy said, sitting next to Levi.
“It was strange.
Very strange. I was contacted – during a business meeting, mind you – by the
dead son of the new contractor I was speaking with in my office. This kid – a
salvage yard murder victim – popped into my head and started yelling at me. I
tried to shut him out, but I couldn’t. I had to actually stop the damned
meeting and tell the man that his deceased son was demanding an audience. Gonzo
thought I’d lost my noodle.”
“Good Lord!” She
covered her parted lips with her hand. “I’d say that was a heck of a
coincidence, but . . .it seems to be so much more than that.”
“Yeah, right.”
He sat back and drummed his fingers on the table for a few seconds. “Anyway,
the kid – Clayton Nelson – was hitchhiking in New Orleans when a guy in a
pickup stopped for him. He couldn’t see much of the man’s face because he wore
a ball cap and sunglasses. He had a mustache that looked fake to me. He used
the ploy of something being wrong with his truck to get the kid to look under
the hood and then he knocked him out with a blow to the head. Clay came to in a
basement, his wrists and ankles bound with plastic ties and chains.” He
shuttered his gaze from her. “That’s where he was murdered.” A few seconds
ticked by before his lashes lifted to reveal his dark blue eyes that never
missed much. “You’ve been in contact with the murderer already, haven’t you?”
Her heart
jolted. He was uncanny. “I was in contact with someone who’s warped. I don’t
know if it was the salvage yard killer.”
“Was he
murdering someone?”
“Something. A
cat.”
Levi’s upper lip
lifted in disgust. “Jesus.”
“Yeah. He was
practicing, I think.” She shuddered and blocked out the memory.
“The kid in my
head showed me a compass and pointed to the N on it.”
She gasped at
the reference. “Your true north?”
“Bingo. His way
of telling me that you were already part of this.”
She reached for
her glass of juice. They must be destined to examine this case. How else could
she explain what happened to Levi and what she’d already experienced?

Interview with Deborah Camp
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
Stories just pop into my head. I don’t know where they come from – they’ve always been there waiting to be put on paper.
How did you do research for your book?
I do some preliminary research before I begin each one, mainly the place where it’s set and what locations I plan to use. Then I research as I go because I never know where I’ll be hung up or how I’ll paint myself into a corner. For example, before I began writing “Through Her Eyes”, I knew where Levi and Trudy would stay while they were there and that they’d go to the French Market and Café du Monde. I didn’t know where certain houses and businesses would be located until I got to those parts of the book. I stopped, researched, figured it out, and continued. I use the Internet a lot and I usually have friends in the places where I’ve set books and I call them and get answers.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
No. I’ve been a writer since I graduated from college (actually, even before that). Writing is the only job I’ve had. I’m an active volunteer for a local dog and cat rescue group and that takes up some of my time, too.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
I write historical romances, too, but I can’t say that I’d want to go back in time. I like the amenities we have now. I’d miss flush toilets, toilet paper, microwaves, cars, air conditioning and heating, electricity, television, etc. When the electricity goes out, I’m a nervous wreck until it flickers back on! I write about the mid- to late-1800s in the west and I’m always so very glad that I don’t have to work in the fields or do laundry by hand or haul in firewood or trot out in the middle of a snowy night to the outhouse as my characters are forced to do in my novels. Yep. I’ll stay put if it’s all the same to you.
What is your next project?

I’m writing a western set in the late 1800s in Arkansas right now about a couple who marry out of necessity and gradually learn to respect and love each other, despite their differences and foibles. After that, I’ll write #5 in the Mind’s Eye series. There will be six books in the series. In the final book, I plan to spin off another character for a different psychic/suspense series.

EXCERPT:

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” I say under my breath. There’s no way this can be happening. I had my whole future ahead of me. What am I supposed to do now? My parents are going to kill me, and I can’t rely on my ex-boyfriend, Jake. He’s likely to run away, scared shitless.

Goodbye scholarships. I’m only eighteen, and this isn’t how I envisioned my life turning out. I wipe the tears from my cheeks. When did I start crying? I grab the little stick that has now determined my future, wrap it in toilet paper, and hurl it in the trash.

Gathering all the strength I can muster, I walk out of the bathroom, gathering the words to tell my parents that they will soon be grandparents. This isn’t going to go well at all.

I’m completely overcome with the many emotions swirling through my brain. Fear, sadness, confusion. I can’t settle on just one. I feel each one with every fiber of my being.

My parents are on the patio drinking in the summer night, waiting on the first fireworks to sail into the air as we celebrate our freedom. I definitely don’t feel free right now. I feel trapped, and can’t breathe. The heat isn’t helping, either. They look at me as I step on the patio, and instantly know that something is wrong.

“What happened? Are you okay?” My mom asks.

I can only shake my head, look at the ground, and try to keep the moisture behind my eyes. Dad has a look on his face… A mixture of worry and anger.

“Please, don’t tell me what I think you are about to tell me,” he says. Barely containing the worry that wants to claw its way out.

The tears that I had strangled only moments ago burst free.

“Damn it, Tonya. What the hell are you going to do now?”

I could handle Mom’s wrath, but hearing the disappointment in Dad’s outburst rips me wide open.

I’ve always been Daddy’s little girl, his pride and joy. But the moment the words “I’m pregnant” slip through my lips, I know he’s never going to look at me the same again.

99¢ this week only!

EXCERPT:

The dream is luscious.

I’m curled up on a soft green lawn. A breeze bends the stalks of a row of tulips. They look like they are leaning in to tell me a secret.

Then I see two shoes. Bright polished men’s dress shoes. A perfectly creased cuff lands at precisely the right position. There is no break in the crisply pressed fold. My eyes travel up it, past his knees, to the fly.

There’s a bulge there. He’s gotten aroused looking at me. Heat courses through my body and I skip ahead to his face.

But he’s already bending down, coming for me.

And his lips land on mine.

I fall into the kiss. It’s warm and soft and exactly what I’ve wanted. It tastes faintly of brandy. Smells engulf me. Expensive cologne. A hint of shampoo, something woodsy.

Then the grass is gone. I’m in a black void, spinning. I bring my arms up around the neck of this man in his suit, but I’m surprised to touch skin instead. He’s naked now, the suit peeled away just for me.

I hold on to his strong shoulders. The kiss gets deeper, richer, and the sensation of falling is more intense. His tongue enters my mouth and I open for him greedily. It makes sense, the slide into the emptiness and how he fills me.

Then I really am flying, moving through the air, and a bit of scruffy facial hair scrapes against my cheek.

I’m not in a void. I’m being carried.

But one part of the dream was right.

I am definitely being kissed.

I pull back. Oh my God. It’s Dell.

He looks down at me with a sly smile. “It works on babysitters as well as poisoned princesses,” he says.

Winner of the Pinnacle Award 2016 for Biographical Fiction, the Feathered Quill Award 2017 for Spiritual/Religious Fiction, and a Foreword INDIES Award for Military/Wartime Fiction.

Balian has survived the devastating defeat of the Frankish army at the Battle of Hattin, and walked away a free man after the surrender of Jerusalem, but he is baron of nothing in a kingdom that no longer exists. Haunted by the tens of thousands of Christians now enslaved by the Saracens, he is determined to regain what has been lost. The arrival of a vast crusading army under the soon-to-be-legendary Richard the Lionheart offers hope -- but also conflict, as natives and crusaders clash and French and English quarrel.

Other Books in the Balian d'Ibelin Series

Knight of Jerusalem
Published: September 2014

Balian, the landless son of a local baron, goes to Jerusalem to seek his fortune. Instead, he finds himself trapped into serving the young prince suffering from leprosy, an apparent sentence to obscurity and death. But the unexpected death of King Amalric makes the leper boy King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, and Balian’s prospects begin to improve.

The Byzantine princess Maria Comnena is just thirteen years old when she arrives in the Kingdom of Jerusalem at her great uncle’s orders to cement the alliance between the two Christian kingdoms in the East. The child wife of a man almost three times her own age, she is despite her excellent education and intelligence little more than a pretty doll in the eyes of her husband. When she fails to produce a male heir for the desperate king, her marriage becomes a gilded prison. Until suddenly the king is dead and Maria finds herself a wealthy widow at just twenty years of age.

Meanwhile, the charismatic Kurdish leader Saladin has united the forces of Islam and vowed to drive the Christians into the sea. While King Baldwin IV—and Balian—struggle to save the Holy Land for Christendom by whatever means they can, the internal rivalries of Templars and Hospitallers, the advocates of offense and defense, and the bitter rivalries of barons threaten to tear the kingdom apart.

Defender of Jerusalem
Published: July 2015

The Christian kingdom of Jerusalem is under siege. The charismatic Kurdish leader, Salah ad-Din, has succeeded in uniting Shiite Egypt with Sunnite Syria and has now declared jihad against the Christian kingdom. While King Baldwin IV struggles to defend his kingdom from the external threat despite the increasing ravages of leprosy, the struggle for the succession threatens to tear the kingdom apart from the inside. In the high-stakes game, one man stands out for his loyalty to the dying king, the kingdom, and Christianity itself. That man is Balian d'Ibelin.

This is the second book in a three-part biographical novel about Balian d'Ibelin, who defended Jerusalem against Salah ad-Din in 1187. The first book in the series, Knight of Jerusalem, was a finalist for the 2014 Chaucer Award for Historical Fiction and a B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree.
