In the game of life, I was used to being on the losing team. The odds were stacked against me. Tegan’s Team—a mom who tried to control me, a dad who would rather drink then spend time being a father, a lying ex-boyfriend, and fake friends. Like any team however, you have that one shining star that stood out above the rest. For me that star was Emily, my best friend. I guess life had pity on me the day it gave me a friend that always had my back. Life must have felt extra giving the day it gave me a cheer leader—Mrs. White, my next-door neighbor. She’d been more of a parent to me growing up then my own parents.

And then there was Andrew. He was my shooting star. One that I never saw coming.  One that I hoped became mine over the summer of my senior year.

A glimpse into a crystal ball couldn’t have prepared me for that summer, though. The summer where a letter from my mom rocked me to the core. I felt the world shake with every word I read in that letter. By the time I reached the end, my world split wide open swallowing me whole.

Excerpt

Thanks to the humid air, my hair looked like a frizzy mess, so I swept it up into a high ponytail and fastened it. Just about to head out the front door to wait for Emily on the porch swing, I heard Dad stumble into the kitchen from the garage.
With a deep breath, I spun around and strolled into the kitchen. Dad took a bottle of whiskey from the cupboard and poured the amber liquid into a glass, spilling some on the counter. His body swayed as he turned and sloshed whiskey onto the floor. It took him a minute to realize that I stood in the doorway watching him. His glazed eyes caught mine. He slurred, “Hi, baby girl.”
“Hi, Dad. I’m going out with Emily. She’ll be here in a minute.” I held my voice steady even though I wanted to shout and yell that he’d left me alone on my birthday to get drunk. But what would be the point? It wouldn’t change anything.
“Emmmily. Tell her to come in. I haven’t seen her in a while.” He staggered toward me.
“We’re in a hurry. She can’t come in this time. Why don’t you sit down and watch TV? There are lots of war movies on.” I grasped his arm and steered him toward the living room.
“Warrr movies ...” He fell onto the couch. I steadied the drink in his hand so it didn’t spill everywhere. Experience had taught me not to try to take it from him—much easier to get him to go along with what I say if I just let him have it. I flipped the TV channel to an old war movie and headed back to the kitchen. After I’d hidden all the keys, and cleaned up the spilled whiskey, I checked on him one more time. His head hung forward with his eyes shut. Carefully, I nudged his head back against a throw pillow. His grip tightened on the glass when I tried to take it from him, so I just left it. Headlights shone in the front window when Emily turned into my driveway. Through blurred eyes, I kissed his forehead, and then walked out the door.

Unlocking the Natural Born Leader's Abilities

Leaders orchestrate commands to people in order to accomplish objectives pertinent and in accordance with their personal principles and intentions. This book sets to identify the qualities and abilities of a certain kind of leader, which I refer to as the natural-born leader (NBL). The NBL possesses innate traits, refined and perfected over time with education, training, and experience. I will attempt to illustrate these traits by drawing from my fifty years of personal experiences and hope readers will look at this as an opportunity to introspect. I have also designed a self-assessment tool so you may self-evaluate the presence of these NBL abilities and identify where you ultimately fall on the spectrum.
Today, there is widespread lack of confidence in leadership whether in business, government, education, or elsewhere. The vision of a confident leader, that of an NBL, is needed for the betterment of the world.

Excerpt:
Help me.
My eyes popped
open to a pitch black room. For a few seconds, I lay where I was, sprawled on
my back in my own bed. I wasn’t sure yet whether the voice I’d heard was real
or whether I’d dreamed it. The room was unusually silent. My tiny studio
apartment was normally filled with the sounds of the downtown street below. Not
now, though, so I figured it must be late. Even the drunks had gone to sleep.
Everything was still, quiet; I convinced myself I must have been dreaming. Just
as I closed my eyes, I heard it again.
Help me.
Groaning, I
rolled onto my side. With one hand, I groped for my cellphone on the end table,
knocking something off in the process. Whatever it was, I didn’t hear it break,
so I shrugged it off. I’d figure it out later. My hand landed on the phone. I
picked it up, pushing the button to light up the screen; it was only three-thirty
in the morning. I groaned again. I really didn’t want to get out of bed but it
had to be done; the voice wouldn’t go away on its own. I could ignore it, but
that had never worked out. I refused to go through that again.
Grumbling, I
clambered out of bed and snatched the jeans I’d shucked off only a couple of
hours before. Being sort-of psychic can be a real pain in the ass. I never know
when a voice is going to call to me. It could be like now, in the middle of the
night. It could be while I’m at work, which means I have to have a flexible
job. Or it could be during the middle of sex, which makes relationships
difficult, especially since I don’t like to tell people about what I can do.

Having a psychic
ability is also weird. It doesn’t always work and I have no idea of the full
extent of it. Sometimes I can do something useful, like avert a crime or a
death. Most times I just find dead bodies. I know it’s a turn off. Most people,
I figure, don’t want to get with a guy who’s basically a cadaver dog.

Interview with J E Lorin
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
It’s hard to say. Most of my ideas come to me as small fragments that I build on. For example, with The Finder, it was the phrase “Help me.” It would pop into my head at random times. In the morning, I would wake up and think of it. So I got to wondering what it would be like for a person to be awoken by a voice in their head saying that and the story grew from there.
How did you do research for your book?
No research necessary on this one! Everything came right out of my imagination.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
Writing is my profession. I have a few part-time jobs at which I work minimal hours, but that’s mostly to get me out of the house & talking to other human beings.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
The Roaring ‘20s. They seem like they were a lot of fun. Plus, “flapper” wear is pretty flattering to my figure. :)
 What is your next project?

I’m working on a story about two lost souls who meet on a planet with mysterious powers & fall in love.

SORROW’S POINT
(Book 1)

Not All Exorcists
are Equal....One is Marked

When defrocked ex-priest,
Jimmy Holiday, agrees to help an old friend with his sick daughter, he doesn’t
expect the horrors that await him. Blackmoor, his friend’s new residence, rests
upon the outskirts of the town of Sorrow’s Point. The mansion’s history of
magic, mayhem, and death makes it almost a living thing – a haunted mansion
straight out of a Stephen King novel. Jimmy must decide if the young girl,
Lucy, is only ill, or if the haunting of the house and her apparent possession
are real.
After the house appears to
affect him as well with colors of magic dancing before his eyes, rooms warded
by a witch, and a ring of power in his voice, Jimmy is met by a transient who
tells him he has “the Mark.” Whatever being “marked” means, Jimmy doesn’t care.
All he wants to do is help Lucy. But, helping Lucy means performing an
exorcism.

My Review:
Sorrow's Point is book 1 of the Marker Chronicles. I don't call it scary but it sure is creepy.  We get our first meeting with Jimmy Holiday. He is an Ex Catholic Priest. He chose a woman over the church, and not just any woman but a witch.  After the witch Tabby and his relationship did not work out Jimmy is now a graphic designer living alone. One night at 3 AM his phone rings, reluctantly he answers. It is Will an old friend he grew up with. Will is in a state of despair. He asks Jimmy to meet with him to talk. Little did Jimmy know Will made the phone call from his driveway.  Will asks Jimmy to help him with his daughter who is possessed, thinking he is still a Priest. Jimmy decides to go with Will and determine for himself if 6 year old Lucy is possessed or not. After arriving he decides he is going to need help so he calls his Ex Tabby.  Jimmy contacts the church with proof of the possession but is told they must wait 6 month to get a exorcism. Jimmy knows Lucy cannot last that long so takes it upon himself to perform the exorcism.

The book was pretty good and held my attention from page 1 throughout. I liked how they mixed both religions, Catholic and Pagan. I wish the reactions between Jimmy and Tabby had of been a bit more realistic. I did not particularly care for Will and Tor, Lucy's parent. Their parts in the book could of been improved upon. I get that they were at their wits end but they were really unrealistic.  I also felt like the end was rushed. The whole book leading up to the exorcism and it was over in just a couple of pages.  The very end is left wide open for book 2, I'm okay with that though since I will be reading it next.

SORROW’S EDGE (Book
2)

Uncovering The
Truth…Will Take An Exorcist

Jimmy Holiday, defrocked
priest turned exorcist, is trying to get his life in order. With his on-again
off-again witchy girlfriend moving in, the spirit of the little girl from his
last exorcism hanging around, and a secret organization of exorcists hounding
him, Jimmy equals stressed.
When a stranger calls in
the middle of the night asking for help with a possession, Jimmy is about to
land in a mess of trouble. Especially since the man on the phone claims to have
gotten his number from Jimmy’s old mentor. Too bad his mentor has been dead for
years.
After a mysterious silver
flask arrives at his doorstep, Jimmy is left with two options: either ignore
the newest enigma the universe has tossed him, or listen to Lucy and travel to
Arizona to solve the mystery before all hell breaks loose…again.

My Review:
This is the 2nd book in the series. The series should be read in order or you will be a bit lost at times.  In this book Jimmy and Tabby are moving in together and trying their relationship again. Tabby does not know at first Lucy has tagged along as well. As in the 1st book Jimmy gets a phone call at 3AM asking for help. Jimmy gets a package in the mail of a Old Flask and then one morning Jimmy wakes up and finds an IPad on his kitchen table. It is from the Order. Jimmy, Tabby, and Lucy get on a plane for Tombstone Arizona to find the caller asking for help. He gets to meet his Ancestor Doc Holliday as well as the Devil himself. Things are not always what they seem in this story.

I personally did not care for this book near as much as I did the 1st book in the series. I really liked the 1st book.  Jimmy does not really want to be an Exorcist and does not want to be in Tombstone and lets you the reader really know it all the way through the book so much so that I felt almost like Danielle DeVore was was sending a subliminal message that she did not want to write this book. At times the story drug on so much I almost put it down and other important parts raced on and was over and done with way to fast. The book was not terrible, don't get me wrong it just wasn't near as good as I hoed it would be. I am starting book 3 next. I have high hopes for it.

SORROW’S TURN (Book
3)

Some things are
worse than demons.

Jimmy Holiday, reluctant
exorcist, is finally getting the help he needs from the higher-ups. The Order
of Markers is sending him to the Vatican’s exorcism school. Now, he’ll receive
the training he should have gotten at the beginning. One problem, someone wants
to sabotage him.
When his time at the school
is cut short, Jimmy receives an interesting new case. It is the assignment that
no one wants—a corpse has come back to life. And it isn’t a zombie.
Too bad nothing goes as
expected. Armed with his usual bag of tricks, Jimmy thinks everything will
eventually be all right. Well, that is until his betrayer turns out to be the
person he trusts most.

Sorrow's Turn
I have read the first 3 books in this series so far. Book 1 was really good, book 2 I wasn't all that crazy about book 3 (this one) was pretty good. I do like the pretense of the series just not crazy about the lead character Jimmy. Boy needs to man up and get serious instead of being a whiny baby.

Jimmy Holiday is a reluctant exorcist. He is all a defrocked Priest and is living with Tabby a witch, 2 spirits Lucy and Doc, and a cat. I have to say my favorite part of the book was when Tabby told him to quit whining.  Jimmy is a real whiner he goes on about everything all the time to the point it really distracts from the story. I guess it a personality trait Danielle Devor has given him but it gets on my nerves. I think if he didn't whine quite to much I would love these books more.

In this book at first Jimmy is getting ready to go to Italy to begin his exorcism classes.  he will be taking Lucy with him since her soul is attached to him. Doc will be going to wherever he goes to recharge and Tabby will be staying home.  Right before he is to head to Italy they find out that Lucy's body has passed away. Jimmy wonders what will happen to her soul now.

I really don't want to go into much more detail of the book as there are twists and turn in this one and If I go into to detail it will take away from someone who reads my review and then the book. I do lie that in a way this book is more centered on the rest of the main characters we get to know them a little better.

About the Author:

“Everyone deserves a hero. For all the girls, big and small, who don’t neatly fit into society’s boxes—Shattergirl is yours.” – Lee Winter

Lee Winter has worked as a newspaper journalist in almost every state in Australia for the past 28 years. In that time she has covered everything from courts, police, news, television, features, been a humour columnist and sub-editor, and of late, a newspaper glossy magazine’s deputy editor. She has won national awards for her writing and adroit headlines. When her newspaper was sold and laid off most of the staff in November 2016, she made the decision to test the waters as a full-time writer.

Prior to that she has written two books for Ylva, the Goldie-winning, Lambda finalist The Red Files, a newspaper-based mystery; and the Australian underworld crime noir Requiem For Immortals, also a Lambda finalist (finalist in Lesbian Mystery category winners will be announced in New York in June 2017). When the idea of a superheroes collection came up, Lee jumped at the chance to write a novella (Shattered) about a disaffected superheroine on the run and the woman sent to track her down. This blew out to an almost-novel at just under 70,000 words!

Adri's Kitchen Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls With Lids

Super nice set of 3 mixing bowls. The 3 Sizes are 1.5 Qt, 5 Qt, 8 Qt. They are stainless steel and come with tight fitting lids. They also have a non skid silicone base. They are stackable. They are dishwasher safe.

I prefer stainless steel bowls over all other types of bowls. Glass bowls can be broken, plastic bowls sometimes weird flavors, stainless steel do neither one. I also feel like they keep things colder when you are mixing cold things and when you let them rest.

I love to cook its pretty much more of a hobby to me. Having quality items in my kitchen is a must. This set of bowls are great. I have no complaints at all about them really. The largest lid does have some staining on it I assume from the blue lid laying on top of it, but a little discoloration will not hurt the way the bowl or lid works in any way. So I am still giving this set 5 stars.

Freewise Mini Power bank 10000mAh

Powerful 3x3 power bank. Has 2 charging ports and a flashlight. with the 100000 MaH battery you can charge 2 devices at once. Come with charging cable.  As you can see in my video I hooked it up to my tablet and it charged it with no problems at all. I really like the size and weight of this power bank. I have a couple of others that are very large and very heavy but do not have near the battery power. This one I can take with me on day trips with my husband and do not get worn out lugging it around. With the 10000 MaH battery I can fully charge my phone 2 1/2 times before I need to charge it. It will also charge other devices and if you use a different cord then the micro USB you can change it out. I personally use the type C for my phone. I can either use  different cord or add an adapter to the provided cable. The cable that comes with the power bank is about 10 inches.
