Hard Rock Sin
Athena Wright
(Darkest Days, #3)
Publication date: May 2nd 2017
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Cameron Thorne has had a starring role in my fantasies for years.

But the sinfully hot rock star, known for his wild parties and lady killer reputation, is the bassist in my brother’s band. And I know my brother. He’ll kill Cameron if he looks at me twice.

Which means the two of us will never be more than friends.

Only… Cameron keeps staring at me like he wants to throw me on his bed. He keeps licking his lips like he’s thinking of tasting me.

Cameron wants me too.

We know there will be hell to pay. I’m his bandmate’s little sister. But neither of us can fight it.

This rock star god will do anything to keep me.

EXCERPT:

“Lily…” His voice was pained. “You don’t know how much I…” His eyes fell to my mouth. “…how much I wish you just were just a normal girl.”

All the air left the room.

“But this?” he continued. “This can’t happen.”

My heart sunk. I looked down, not meeting his eyes.

“I get it. I’m Noah’s baby sister. You can’t betray his trust.”

“It’s not just that,” he muttered. “I can’t fucking do this to you.”

“Do what to me, exactly?”

“You go speechless whenever you see me without a shirt,” he said with utter patience.

I flushed, understanding his meaning. “Oh. You mean, because I’ve never…?”

He gave me an almost wry smile. “Don’t you know your first time is supposed to be special?”

“Are you saying it wouldn’t be special with you?” I gave him my best teasing smile, trying not to waver. “And here I thought you prided yourself on pleasing the ladies.”

He shot me a look. “That’s different.”

I shifted closer, until I was practically pressed against him. “How is it different?”

“I’ve never—” He snapped his jaw closed, looking frustrated.

Understanding dawned on me. “Have you never been someone’s first before?”

“No.” He ran a hand through his sweat-dampened hair, looking exhausted. “At least, I don’t think I have.” He glanced down at where my hand rested on his chest. He traced the back of my hand with the tip of his finger. Heat radiated from that single point of contact, sending nervous excitement flooding through me. “And I’ve never…”

I leaned closer, bringing our faces closer together. “Never what?”

His eyes dropped to my lips again. I wet them unconsciously. He shut his eyes with a groan. When he opened them, they were full of fire.

“I’ve never wanted to be someone’s first before.” His eyes were still focused on my mouth.

“I want you to be mine,” I said softly. “I don’t want anyone else. I want it to be you.”

I mustered all the bravery I could. I wrapped my arms around his neck, until my breasts were pressed to his chest.

“I want you to teach me. I want you to teach me everything.”

“Fuck.” His eyes blazed. “I told you. Don’t say shit like that to me.”

“Or what?” I challenged. “What are you going to do?”

He placed his hands on my hips, thumbs rubbing the sensitive skin exposed between my tank top and skirt. A spike of heat hit my gut like a blow, nearly taking my breath away.

“This is such a bad fucking idea,” he murmured.

Pushing his hair away from his face with both hands, I met his blue eyes. They were burning with need. I stood on my tiptoes and leaned forward, until we were inches away.

“I want you, Cameron.”

I could practically sense the moment he snapped. The pupils of his eyes dilated, blowing wide open. Cameron let out a low grunt.

“Fuck it,” he growled.

He closed the gap and pressed his lips to mine.

Fireworks exploded across my vision.

Empty Threat by Danny Bell blitz

Empty Threat
Danny Bell
(The Black Pages, #1)
Publication date: May 2nd 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Book one of The Black Pages

Elana Black has the power to make herself fictional. But when she decides to start saving all the people in books and TV shows who die just for the sake of advancing the plot, she quickly learns that she’s not the only one with her powers.

All Elana wants to do is save people. But these others don’t want the stories to change, and they’ll do everything they can to stop her.

If you had the power to change fate… to create a happy ending where there wasn’t one before… would you do it if it meant risking your own?

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

My fears, by comparison, had always been irrational. The fear that someone will think my nose is weird. The fear that I’d hid in the bathroom too long or too many times and everyone at the party will notice. The fear that even my closest friends would one day leave or decide I wasn’t cool enough anymore. The fear that a group of strangers won’t like me, but then will only pretend to be nice to me, and I’ll never know it. They’d say something awful behind my back, and one of them would tell a lie about me, which would make someone else believe that lie, so they’d repeat it. Then two people would tell the same story, and the third and fourth people would also repeat it and then it would become something different, and soon entire groups of people I’d never met would be poisoned against me before we ever even had the chance to meet, before anyone knew I wasn’t some huge jerk, and—

My heart was pounding just thinking about that scenario. My breaths were hard and shallow, my fingers hurt from where I’d been clutching the steering wheel. At least I’d stopped crying.

My point is, that for as terrifying as my fears were to me, I’d always found a way to get past them and function. Even when I was so afraid that I almost couldn’t move, I could fake bravado. In a bit of irony, the fear of being seen as afraid made me move on as if I wasn’t. To do otherwise would mean to just stop, and I’ve lived that life before. Sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months at a time… and you don’t get that time back. So ultimately, you were afraid for nothing. If I could impart a piece of advice onto the world, it is that more than the crowds, more than fake smiles and unheard whispers, even more than our own base, loathsome selves, what we should really fear is stasis. Life will always move forward, whether we move forward or not. Even stumbling and flailing about, unable to find your balance and rolling down a hill head over heels is still moving forward. It might not be graceful, but at least you’re not stuck with whatever you were trying to move past.

Author Bio:

My name is Danny Bell. I want to tell stories and avoid writing author profiles. I read—when I should be interacting with people, I named my cat after a cat I liked in a book, I’m pretty sure I saw a ghost one time—though I’ll never admit it publicly, I’m too tall for the earth, and I’ve never eaten a vegetable. I lied about the vegetable part. Wait… is someone going to read this?

The last thing he wants is to be stranded in a cabin with the one girl he’s always wanted. The one girl who could destroy him.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

Lexa coughed on the sip of water she’d taken. “Let’s get one thing clear. Ransom Cox has never noticed me. I lack the requisite equipment for him to pay appropriate attention. I’m not blonde. My rack isn’t overly endowed. Oh, and all he ever saw in high school was hockey. I was nerdy, and paid zero attention to anything other than great stories.”

“I have it on good authority that you paid attention to more than just your great stories and books. I know for a fact that you used to practice kissing on your hand and pretend it was Ransom.”

Lexa flushed. “Oh, my God. If you ever tell another living soul that, I will kill you. Kill you, dead. Forever.”

Her sister snorted and laughed even as she scooted out of the way of Lexa’s swats. “Think of your great story. I’m telling you. The man, the myth—”

Ella’s voice dropped away, and Lexa looked up, wondering what happened to her sister.

Oh, God. She gulped in a breath. The man, the myth, the penis legend. The hockey God. All six feet, five inches of ripped muscle, the movie-star face, and badass attitude. Standing in the doorway.

Lexa jumped up out of her seat. Too bad her foot was corded around her bag that she’d tucked under the desk, and she couldn’t get proper placement. And so down she went.

Ella ran in behind Ransom. “Oh, my God, Lex.”

Faceplant in front of the guy you always had a crush on, check. Total lack of career direction, check. Yes, her humiliation was complete. Next to her, Ransom’s deep baritone rumbled. “Are you okay?”

Lexa pushed herself to a sitting position. “Yeah, the only thing hurt is my pride, and my forehead. Pretty sure I scraped my hand, too.”

Behind Ransom, Ella’s jaw hung open. She held her arms about a foot apart, as if to indicate a certain…measurement, then cleared her throat as he picked up her wrist and examined it.

“I’m okay.”

Ransom studied her hand. “Are you sure? There’s no pain when I move it?”

Behind him, Ella grinned widely, a mischievous gleam in her eye.

Lexa wanted to die. Matter of fact, if the ground could just open up and swallow her now, that would be awesome. Come on ground. Any moment now. Nothing? Okay, then. “No. It doesn’t hurt.”

“Are you sure about that?” His voice was husky. Low. She’d seen him interviewed enough times in recent years to know that that was just his voice. He didn’t usually say much. But when he did, he always sounded like that. Like he’d just woken up from a long night of sex. Which was the last thing she needed to think about when dealing with Ransom.

Her sister, traitor that she was, called out. “Well, if you’re okay, I’m going to head back to the café. I’m sure the two of you have lots to catch up on. Lex, I’ll send someone over with a sandwich. And that recipe. Though, you might not want to use it for a while. All that garlic. Good to see you, Ransom.”

Lexa groaned. With one faceplant, she’d earned enough humiliation points with her sister for her to hand over that garlic aïoli recipe. Awesome.

Excerpt:

Reaching back
and securing his hands at the nape of his neck, he watched as the millions of
stars that had dotted the blue-black sky just a half hour ago blinked out one
by one in the morning light.

He didn’t want
to be alone for this moment, but it was more than that.

He wanted to be
with Jenna. Climbing into his truck, he headed over to the Jenna’s. There was a
light on downstairs in the den, which Tag hoped meant someone was awake at the
Atkins farm. Jenna had said that she had a lot of sewing to catch up on. Maybe
she’d gotten up early to get started before Brian woke up. With any luck, she’d
be awake.

Anticipation
rolled through him. Within seconds Jenna came bursting out of the front door
onto the porch. Despite the porch’s shadows, he could see from the light
filtering out from the den window that it was her. A smile immediately hit his
face, but then he saw the panic in her eyes when she came down the porch steps.

His stomach
clenched as the quiet peace he’d been feeling during the drive over shifted
into concern. Had something happened? Was that really why she was up so early?

She’s temptation personified

Nathan had always been more than just my dad’s friend. I never thought he’d see me as an adult, especially not after avoiding me for so long. EXCERPT:

“What are you doing?”

What was I doing? I’d come in to check. To see if what I thought I’d seen and felt outside had been a figment of my imagination. But it hadn’t, as evidenced by the bulge he was obviously sporting, and I needed to figure out what to do with that information.

So I answered honestly. “Pushing you.”

“Pushing me to do what, exactly?”

“Whatever it is you want.”

“Why?”

“Because you look like a man who needs to be pushed.”

His eyes devoured me again, burning me from the inside out. Leaving nothing but ash where I’d once stood. “Maybe I’m the one man you shouldn’t push.”

Excerpt Two:

Dag held silent. He was surely scowling at me, but I couldn’t see it and didn’t care. With my right arm, I lowered Ormyr to a seat against the rock again. His limbs obeyed, but he seemed absent mentally, eyes glazed over. I learned the hard way that he was still paying attention when his hand darted to the bolt in his thigh. He tore it out with one swift movement.

“Damn it!” I cried. It just figured he wouldn’t listen. This bit of stubbornness might’ve cost him his life. Heart pounding and hands shaking, I dug into my first aid kit for bandages.

“I’m uninjured.” Ormyr rested his head against the rock.

“I don’t need your denial on top of everything else,” I snapped, struggling to rein in my irritation. That, plus the fog and the dizziness? Not good signs, but I couldn’t worry about myself just then. “Dag, turn on that light again. I can’t see too well.”

“Gamla skíta,” Dag spat. “I’m not helping him!”

“No, you’re not. You’re showing him the power the Naustviks gave you.” There. Something to appeal to the kid’s bravado and sate Ormyr’s curiosity about how Dag had come to wield the Shipbuilder relic. But if Ormyr cared about such a thing at the moment, he gave no sign, his gaze remaining detached.

Dag edged over to my makeshift surgical arena. The bright light cut on again, which the boy aimed directly at Ormyr’s eyes at first. The master adept’s only response was to squint.

“Lower, Dag,” I said.

He complied. Eventually.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Ellis has always loved staging adventures in her head before going to sleep each night. When she was twelve, she started putting these adventures on paper.
For the next twenty years, she wrote with varying degrees of seriousness, but always as a hobby. In that time, she fell in love with Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut, the original Star Trek series, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Science fiction became her favorite domain to work in, but she also enjoyed reading fantasy, horror, Western, and detective stories, and incorporating their elements into her work. One of her favorite things to do was make people laugh.

Ellis denied being a writer for decades. But then she sold articles to The Daily WTF, and a short story to Analog Science Fiction and Fact. After quitting her full-time job to finish her first novel, it was time to own up to writing as her calling. She's currently an editor at The Daily WTF, and having the time of her life penning novels and short stories.

LINKS FOR BUYING THE BOOK:

Interview with Ellis Morning
1. What is your favorite part of this book and why?
Without giving too much away, I really enjoy when Dame Jessamine, the main character, hits her personal rock-bottom and has to climb back out with some very unlikely help. That’s where we see what she’s made of.

2. If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I’d want to learn archery from Ingvar Leirfall, Dame Jessamine’s love interest. He’s a great mentor and easy on the eyes to boot!

3. If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?
There are lots of books I wouldn’t mind taking credit for! Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut is one of the most thought-provoking and profound books I’ve ever read. I still cry when I read the part about the World War 2 movie seen in reverse.

4. Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Trick question! ;) Even when we think we’re make things up whole-cloth, we’re actually taking ideas stored in our brains and recombining them in interesting ways. So everyone’s characters are blends of all the real and fictional people they’ve ever met, seen on TV or the bus, read about, etc. Mine included! There’s no one who’s a 100% copy of a person I know in real life.

5. What made you want to become a writer?
When I was little, I liked imagining extra episodes of the cartoons I watched, continuing the adventures of my favorite characters. Eventually, those stories made it out on paper. I was in high school when the Internet took off, and it was a lot of fun to interact with other people doing the same thing. Writing became my favorite creative outlet.

I had a goal of finishing at least one book one day. Toward that end, I left fan-fiction behind for original fiction, starting with short stories and progressing to novels. The novels are my main focus these days, but I’m always happy to scribble out short stories when an idea strikes.
