Quackery by Lydia Kang; Nate Pedersen

After reading his book it is a wonder any of our ancestors lived making way for us to be here.  There are strange but true accounts all through this book of the medicines of the "day" so to speak, and the repercussions of using them.  There are a few historical names in the book and their stories. Like Abe Lincoln and his bout with taking mercury for headaches.  The book goes into to detail of how the medications were mixed, what they supposedly cured, and what they actually would do to the human body over time and more.  There are some great pictures and drawings in the book as well.  You do not have to be  Doctor to read and enjoy this book.  it is written is easy to understand word instead of scientific jargon. And there is a good bit of humor as well.

Dark Screams: Volume Six by Brian James Freeman

Wow what a read! This book is filled with 6 creepy stories from some of the top horror writers.  If you are not familiar with a writer this is a great way to be introduced.  Each story has it own creep factors to it. The stories are short so great for on the go.  This was my introduction to the series so cannot wait to get my hands on Volumes 1 thru 5.   I also had not read any  of Nell Quinn-Gibney but am now on the lookout for her books.  I enjoyed each story int his book not sure which I would call my favorite. I do love Stephen Kind and have for many years so not sure if that is my favorite story or just because I enjoy his writing so much.  Anyway this is a awesome book.

In a future United States where those who control technology control the wealth, seventeen-year-old Marguerite’s viral video propels a populist candidate to presidential victory on a platform of “tech for all.” But as the mouthpiece of the new leader determined to break the elite stronghold, Marguerite finds herself on the opposite side of the divide in a new high school full of technocrat teens.

Percy is drawn to Marguerite’s passion for the cause, but the legacy of his murdered scientist parents prevents him from letting her get too close.

Soon terrorists strike the capital and technocrat leaders begin turning up dead, and the two must work together to protect both their families and the country. With everyone literally plugged into technology, total domination will take only a flip of the switch. In order to preserve their freedom and the future Marguerite envisions, she and Percy may be forced to pay the ultimate price.

Amish Refuge by Debby Giusti

This was a great story. It is a quick read.full of action. At times Miriam being jealous of a dead woman tended to get a bit repetitive but did not hurt the story, seemed like it was a bit of filler, which was really not needed in the story. Also I would of liked a better ending, where we go to trial and whether or not the sister was found.

The main characters are Miriam Miller. Her mother sister and herself are headed to Georgia from Tennessee to find her mother's sister. A woman Miriam never knew existed until recently when her mother begged to find her. Her mother is suffering from dementia. On the they are pulled over by the Police. The Police end up killing the mother and kidnapping Miriam and her sister. They are held and drugged in a cabin in the woods. Miriam ends up escaping after her sister is taken away. As she is running away she is followed by the officer with a Snake tattoo on his neck. She ends up wrecking her car and escapes on foot. She sees a light in a window of a cabin and runs to it. This is when she meets the leading Man Abram and his sister Emma. The take her into their home and try to protect her. Abram has lost his wife and child during childbirth 3 years before but has not gotten past his grief. Abram is Amish and Miriam really does not have a religion. They grow to care for each other. Can Miriam survive the snake man and can she and Abram get beyond their pasts and religious differences?

Sunrise Sunset by Kim Weiss

Stunning book of 52 sunrise/sunset photos. Also included are poetry, personal thoughts, gentle advice, and shirt stories from different inspirational authors.  This book has a very calming effect whether you just look at the pictures or actually read it. The pictures are stunning.  The book can give you a whole new outlook on each day and an end to each as well. Whether it has been a good day or bad. It basically helps you feel grateful for the lessons learned that day. That each day is beautiful in its own way as well as being a gift. At least this is my take on the book.
