The Gentleman’s Promise by Frances Fowlkes blitz

The Gentleman’s Promise
Frances Fowlkes
(Daughters of Amhurst, #3)
Published by: Entangled Publishing
Publication date: April 17th 2017
Genres: Adult, Historical, Romance
A social pariah due to her scandalous activities, Lady Sarah Beauchamp yearns for redemption to obtain a husband. The assistance of Society darling Mr. Jonathon Annesley gives her hope of success. However, the more effort he puts into helping her, the more she realizes the only esteem she wishes to earn is that of the handsome Jonathon. However, her reputation would potentially ruin his political aspirations.
Offering a gentleman’s promise to help his sister’s friend regain the favor of the ton should be easy for son of a viscount, Jonathon Annesley. After all, he’s well liked and considered a rising star in Parliament. Until he learns Sarah’s ultimate goal is a husband. No man is good enough and could ever appreciate her for all she is. But she is not for him—his focus rests solely on gaining reforms for society’s weakest members. Yet, a promise made cannot be broken…

 Excerpt 1.
"Would you consider kissing me? Here and now?"
The questions were bold, crass, and ungentlemanly at best. Decorum stated Sarah was in no way expected to answer. Quite honestly, he'd be surprised if she did. His devilry had likely caused her embarrassment, if not an awkward discomfort. But damn it all if his curiosity didn't get the better of him.
The left corner of her mouth twitched as she held his gaze. "That was two questions. I believe the rules state I need answer only one."
Dear God. Was she flirting with him?
Blood pounded loud and fast in his ears. He took another step toward her, his back to her maid. "I leave you to decide which question you would like to answer."
Sarah's gaze flitted to the side, the wind catching at the ribbon knotted attractively at her throat. "Well…I…" She glanced upward as a fat droplet of rain landed on her nose.
Of all the moments for the sky to open, it had to be the one where he stood breathless, awaiting her response.
His day was governed by the devil.
"Yes and no," Sarah stated.
"I beg your pardon?"
Another drop splattered onto the scarlet wool of her pelisse. "I've given you two responses because I'm feeling generous. It is up to you to decide which response correlates with which question."
With a quick curtsy and a wave of her hand, she motioned toward her maid and started toward the inn, leaving him standing alone with a smile as wide as his face.
He had not imagined her interest. She wanted to kiss him.
If Jonathon was anything, he was a man who kept his promises—and made certain others did as well.
A kiss from Lady Sarah was in his future. And he was determined to receive it.

Author Bio:
After viewing her all-time favorite love story, "Anne of Green Gables", at the impressionable age of ten, Frances Fowlkes has been obsessed with affable boy-next door heroes, red-heads, and romance stories with lots of "highfaluting mumbo jumbo" written within their pages. It only seems natural then that she married the boy who used to pull on her curls in her high school English class, had not one, but THREE red-headed boys, and penned multiple love stories with bits of flowery prose.
When not writing, Frances loves spending time with her family, fangirling, and planning her next vacation.
Frances Fowlkes, originally a northern mid-westerner, now lives in the southeast with her ardent hero of a husband, three playful and rambunctious boys, and one spoiled standard poodle.
A self-professed Anglophile and summa cum laude graduate of LeTourneau University, Frances Fowlkes combines her passion for happily-ever-afters with her interests in both American and English histories.

Excerpt:

“Vita!” James is panicked, shaking my shoulders, when my eyes begin to crack open. The bright light violates my pupils, and I slam my eyes shut again. My head is pounding.

“Stop shaking her, boy. We don’t know what damage that could cause.” I relax a bit as my body takes in the grandfatherly voice of wisdom. James’s hands release me. “She’s coming around. Give her a moment.”

I moan, raising an arm to cover my closed eyes. “I’m fine.”

“She could pave a road with those words.” The Old One’s voice gets farther away.

Before I can even wonder what that means, the light mercifully wanes, and I dare to peek out from under my arm. I begin to piece together where I am. The tiny white room. Lying on my monitoring station.

A visibly shaken James is sitting next to me, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes, face ashen.

“Hey,” I coax. “It’s okay. Nothing to be worried about.”

James shakes his head and looks down. A sniffle seems to actually compose him, and he looks up at me. “Vita, I’m so sorry. If I would have known, I would have warned you.”

Still hazy, I recall my experience in the meadow with the solider boy. Before speaking, I resolve to never let myself be that helpless again. Starting right now. Just like James said, I will be the one doing the breaking. Well, maybe not right now. After I recover from whatever this is.

“Warned me about what?”

“The dazers,” he practically whispers, but I still hear the George’s tongue cluck from the computer station. His disapproval is thick. “You passed out on the steps. I couldn’t wake you up. When I brought you here, I thought you were dead.”

“Yes, the drugs caused your heart to race,” the wizard explains, less emotionally. His eyes never leave the tablet in his hands. “Your heart didn’t care for that so it shut down...for a bit.”

“It shut down?” I echo as panic begins to rise from my toes.

“Only for a moment.” His hand waves dismissively. “Everything’s fine.” The Old One smirks, finally looking up at me as he turns my own words around on me.

“I died?”

“For a second.” George holds up two fingers very close together in an attempt to keep us positive.

Whoosh. “I came as soon as I heard.” Long brown hair whirls through the room. Mom busies herself snatching the tablet and replacing James at the side of my bed. She grasps my hand, leans in, and begins examining my eyes. I have no idea what they look like, but her fear and disgust focus across the room. “George, thank the stars you are still here! How could this have happened? I’m not even sure what this means.” She shakes the tablet at him, the data revealing itself to me shortly. “Where was she? Who was with her?”

James makes a move to step forward and the Old One stops him. “She was just doing as I instructed. Taking time off. Meeting new people. Trying out a party. I’m sorry. I didn’t know she would be confronted with...substances.”

Mom visibly calms down. I guess maybe she couldn’t be too angry with the man who had just saved her daughter’s life? She lays the tablet down gently. “What can I do for her?”

“Nothing, I’m afraid. The drugs have to work their way through her system. She won’t be able to start training until they are flushed out. Her new friends just may have bought her enough time to completely restore before the next round.”

My eyelids feel as though they are made of lead. My hand is nestled between stronger ones. I fight to stay awake behind the fading light.

“What will we ever do without you?” My mother’s whisper floats across the room to me.

His firm response slices through the darkness closing in around me. “The director has plans but so do we. Stick to the plan. Thanks to your husband’s—ex-husband’s—news story, she’s about ready to enter a world where everyone knows her and what she can do. She needs you two more than ever.”

I didn’t know then that when I awoke, it would be to a new world. A world without George, without visits from my dad, and without panic attacks. A world where I was a celebrity, a scientific wonder, and no longer alone. Never mind that I put my life at risk each time I pushed one the boundaries of human capability. I lived by the words I was never meant to hear:

“Vita’s never going to be broken. She’s going to be the one doing the breaking. She’s stronger than any of us will ever know.”

Excerpt:

Timak closed his eyes and listened to the silence. A tear trickled down his cheek. “Yazmine?” Another tear fell into the lengthening hush. “Please don’t leave me alone...Yazmine?”
“YOU TOLD HIM YOUR NAME?!” The rage gusted through the cabin, rocking the bowl.
Timak cringed.
“Do you want to be hurled back to ground, to wallow in your miserable little existence for an eternity until the Court forgives you? If they ever forgive you!”
He heard Yazmine stifle a sob. It wasn’t right she fell prey to some brute. “Stop it,” he said. “You’re frightening her.” A gust whipped him up before he had finished speaking. He crashed against the wall and slid to the floor, bashing his arm against the coffer. Pain jolted through his elbow into his shoulder. He curled up, drawing his arm against his chest. It hurt so much it might have broken.
“You puny speck of creation. Do you DARE tell a DJINN what to do?”
He gritted his teeth, squeezing his eyes tight against the pain. “It’s your fault. You spoke her name. Yesterday, you called her.” He cowered into the corner. Wind moaned through the cracks in the planks and ruffled his hair.
“No, don’t!” Yazmine pleaded.
The wind died. The djinn clucked. Timak let out his breath.
“He can hear us,” the djinn said.
“Shouldn’t he?” Yazmine whispered. “I mean if he’s got a gift.”
“Mahktos grants no such gift.”
Timak risked a peep. The glare had gone, leaving the ocean to ripple until it met the hazy sky. “Maybe it was the porrin,” he said.
“The porrin has worn off, you miserable insect.
“It started with the porrin,” Yazmine said.
“And should have ended with it,” the djinn snarled. His glare burst into the cabin. “The Court must hear of this.”
A force tugged Timak to the tips of his toes. An icy breath slid across his face and down his body, chilling him to the bone. He shivered. For the first time in his ten years, he understood what a still wind meant. He wished he didn’t when his breath puffed through the glare, heating it so he could see a creature with a hint of red in his blazing eyes and a touch of indigo in his crystal joints. He sobbed as the djinn shook him until his teeth chattered.
“If you ever have the fortune to cower in our presence again, you will address us as Djinn and Genie. You will never call Yazmine by name again and you will never so much as breathe it to another living soul, whether it be one of your inconsequential kind, or an insignificant scumhopper. Squeal, and I will allow a thousand like Lord Ahkdul to take their pleasure with you in a single night, insect. I will hack off pieces of your flesh and feed them to jabberweis while you watch, cockroach. Do you understand?”
Mute with fear, Timak could only nod.

EXCERPT:

This was it, now or never.

I gathered every single ounce of energy I had and steadied my mind to ignore the pain in my foot and the dizziness in my head. Then, with everything I had, I turned and bolted toward the dense forest. The darkness instantly enveloped me. I could see well enough not to run into tree trunks, but branches caught me at every turn. My head felt as if it was spinning like a top, but I forced my legs to keep going. I could hear the men’s voices yelling at each other in an organized manner.

I tripped and found myself on all fours. Get up, girl. There’s nothing wrong with you—get up…

I made it a few more steps before my head connected with a blue spruce, and then I collapsed in a pathetic heap. My arms were so wobbly I could barely wipe at the gash across my forehead. My body was completely failing me. I prayed to God that the dog would just snap my neck and get it over with quickly…

Human footsteps approached. I gulped in some air and tried to push myself up, but the world tipped on its side and I fell with it. Within moments, large hands had my wrists pinned to the ground. I struggled and fought with everything I had left, which wasn’t much.

“Stop fighting,” he said.

His voice created such confusion inside me. I kicked harder.

“Stop… please,” he begged.

His body pinned mine to the ground. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes.

“Please, Kaya, trust me. I won’t let anyone hurt you, I promise.” He leaned forward and pressed his sleeve to my bleeding forehead, dabbing and inspecting it closely while I had no choice but to gaze up him. How could this beautiful man be a kidnapper? It just didn’t fit.

“It’s just a scratch; no stitches required,” he said, voice trailing off as his eyes met mine.

We stayed like that for a while: me on the ground, him kneeling over me, and our line of sight only on each other—until an unmistakable sound broke through the tree tops.

“They’ll find me,” I said softly, wondering if Oliver was in the helicopter circling over our heads.

He positioned his arms under my body, and, in one graceful motion, he picked me up and into his arms. “Just don’t run. Promise me that, please. I’ll keep you safe. You have my word. Okay?”

He held me tightly—protectively—waiting eagerly for my reply with turmoil in his blue eyes. My whole body hurt, and admittedly, I couldn’t have walked another inch. The wolves or that beast would have got to me long before Oliver would have. I was at my kidnapper’s mercy, laying helplessly in his arms and falling harder for him by the second.

“I promise,” I said.

Spies R Us by Amber Malloy

When Mommy's A Spy

Moms have to wear many different hats—chef, nurse, chauffer, and maid are custom built into the job. Eden Morgan is a kick ass mom who wanted to give up her life as a spy … that’s right, this new mom was a spy. What happens when a strong woman desires a different life? First we have to ask why this mom wanted the old one.

In business, dominant women can be viewed as sexless bitches. It is the weaker persuasion who are in need of a good, strong man to keep them in check. In other words, can women be bad asses while being soft, cuddly mothers? Sure! What title can be used other than double agents? With so many balls in the air, why can’t the woman who hunted down the bad guy be the same person to potty train a toddler?

Without question men are allowed to be anything their heart desires. Father, spy, Agents of Shield, even president—the sky is the limit and no one questions their masculinity or whether they can do it all. Women, on the other hand, don’t have it so easy. Motives are questioned, as is whether she can raise a family and work a high priority job. Even after seventy years women’s rights are still a hot topic … why?

Eden Morgan came from the generation in which women could have it all. A spy for a secret sect, this bad girl was saving the world. However, once she ran into Vann Morgan all of that changed. Soft in all the right places, she can shoot a gun and kill a man with her bare hands, so why would she give it all up? People change. What may have been a hard exterior was always a soft inside, and why not? The perception that women have to be hard as nails in such a position is a farce. Real life spies wouldn’t be able to walk around with that Angelina Jolie pout. In zero point two seconds she would be shot upon entering the room. There has to be some type of likeability to make a woman spy work.

Vann Morgan had no idea his wife was a shoot ’em up, bad ass. He believed he married a sweet hot thing, who wanted to have his babies … and guess what, she did. Eden felt she married the sexy guy who showed her something that she wasn’t aware she wanted—stability, house, and a family. Spies R Us is about releasing the past to allow the good of the new to arrive. Unfortunately, it’s messy much like life tends to be.

Spies R Us
Amber Malloy

Release date: February 2

Genre: Erotic Action Adventure.

Publisher: Totally Bound

Book Description:

The top African American spy, Eden Morgan, was living the good life…

Days away from permanently leaving the spy game, Eden Morgan plan of being a stay at home mom goes up in smoke. Number one on the Russian hit list, Eden must leave her beautiful family and figure out who’s trying to kill her.

Unfortunately, her agency burns her status, so what should have been only weeks on the run turned into years. Instead of accepting her fate, Eden claws her way from the dead to save the next people on the Russian’s hit list… her kids. However, after three years missing, her homecoming isn’t well received. She finds that her awesome husband has moved on with a perky school teacher; not to mention her twins barely remember her. With a good idea who’s behind the plot to kill them, Eden must navigate car pool lanes, bitchy moms, and one angry, sexy husband.

By definition, Vann Morgan was charmed. One gorgeous wife and twins, and the most difficult thing in his life was reconstruction of his Chicago brownstone. Unfortunately everything changes when his lovely wife disappears and no one but him seems to care. After some years, Vann makes a new normal as a single dad, but his routine is blown apart when his long lost wife comes back. Unable to trust Eden with his heart, he soon uncovers that everything surrounding her disappearance was all his fault.
