A Mansion on the Moon Blitz

Historical Romance, Women’s Fiction

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Set in the tumultuous period of Guam history, between the Spanish-American War and World War II, the lives and loves of three Chamorro women unfold amid the changes and challenges around them. Sixteen-year old Amanda falls of a navy seaman who leaves her with child. Her daughter Sylvia grows up an illegitimate orphan. Yet she finds happiness with Tino Camacho, who loves her despite her scandalous background. Life teaches their daughter, the level-headed Vivian Camacho, that falling for an American navy man is futile, like reaching for the moon.

Cultural and racial prejudices increase the distance. Vivian avoids such futility until the handsome Philip Avery, an up-and-coming naval engineer, enters her life as an upstairs tenant newly assigned to Guam. Vivian falls in love with him but knows nothing can come of it. Philip is from a different world, one of wealth, rank, and privilege. Vivian is a simple island girl who lives under naval government rule. Philip is a man well beyond her reach. He is as distant from her world as the moon; he is the mansion there. Philip falls in love also, but his career comes first. Both deny their feelings for each other; their love cannot be. But love knows no distance, sees no differences.

VBT: Remnants by Carolyn Arnold"

Remnants
by Carolyn Arnold

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Mystery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team are called to Savannah, Georgia, when body parts belonging to three separate victims are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River. As the case takes one dark turn after another, Brandon finds himself embroiled in a creepy psychological nightmare.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
My senses were busy taking in the crime scene: marshland, relative seclusion, an arm and leg discovered last week, an arm yesterday. Aside from the human remains that had been found here, the property had a serene feeling to it, a sense of peace. There was a tangible quality to the air, though—or maybe it was the presence of law enforcement and crime scene investigators—that made it impossible to deny that death had touched the place.
“What else can you tell us about the limbs that were recovered?” Paige asked.
The lieutenant cleared his throat. “Well, both arms didn’t have hands, and the leg didn’t have a foot. We found incision marks indicating the hands and foot had been intentionally cut off.”
“Our killer could have taken them for trophies or to make identification impossible,” I suggested.
Pike gave a small nod and continued. “And while we know the hands and foot were removed, it’s not as clear how the appendages separated from the torso. It would be something we’d need the medical examiner to clarify.”
Jack’s brow furrowed, and I could tell his mind was racing through the possibilities.
“But,” Pike continued, “all the limbs have one thing in common: muscle tissue remained, even though the skin had been removed.”
“It is possible that the skin was also taken as a trophy,” Zach speculated.
“We could be looking for a hunter or a sexual sadist,” Jack said.
Hunters were typically identified by the type of weapon they used—a hunting knife, rifle, or crossbow, for example—and they tended to dispose of their victims’ bodies in remote, isolated areas. A sexual sadist, on the other hand, got off on the torture and pain. But we’d need to gather more facts before we could build any sort of profile on our unsub. Even knowing more about the victims themselves would help. Was the killer choosing people he or she was acquainted with? Were the victims of a certain gender, age group, occupation? The list went on and on. From there, we could more easily speculate on our killer’s motive and what they had to gain.
America’s Next Reality Star
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
BLURB:
Seeking The Smart One
Twenty-four-year-old Jen Reid had her life in good shape: an okay job, a tiny-cute Seattle apartment, and a great boyfriend almost ready to get serious. In a flash it all came apart. Single, unemployed, and holding an eviction notice, who has time to remember trying out for a reality show? Then the call comes, and Jen sees her chance to start over—by spending her summer on national TV.
Luckily The Fishbowl is all about puzzles and games, the kind of thing Jen would love even if she wasn’t desperate. The cast checks all the boxes: cheerful, quirky Birdie speaks in hashtags; vicious Ariana knows just how to pout for the cameras; and corn-fed “J-dawg” plays the cartoon villain of the house. Then there’s Justin, the green-eyed law student who always seems a breath away from kissing her. Is their attraction real, or a trick to get him closer to the $250,000 grand prize? Romance or showmance, suddenly Jen has a lot more to lose than a summer . . .
Excerpt from Jennifer Reid’s Audition Video:
Hi, my name’s Jen. I’m twenty-three years old, and I work in marketing for a large multi-national corporation. Check out my fabulous studio apartment in Seattle. It’s only steps from all the excitement and restaurants of downtown, so I’m in a great location. Look at my view of the Space Needle! I love to entertain here. My friends and I do a rotating monthly dinner club. Everyone brings food that fits a theme. My last one was “Food Starting with the Letter Q.” We ate quiche, quinoa, quince pie. . .I know it sounds weird, but everything tasted delicious.
Anyway, I built this cupboard myself. It’s full of games and puzzles. One thing I love to do, at least once a month, is have friends over for Games Night. We play board games, video games, charades—everything!
This is the best part of my apartment: the closet. I added the shelves and these cubbies, which tripled the space. That was a fun project.
Hmm. Is my landlord going to see this? Don’t worry, Mrs. Perez! I’ll put it back when I move.
Galen grunted. He stretched his feet and legs but didn’t speak.
Well, alive as much as you can be.” Steele poked at the wound again. “Can you tell me what happened?”
Kynan waved to Anders. “A moment?”
Anders hesitated. He didn’t want to leave Galen’s side. For all he knew, Galen could be the next to die.
We’ll stay in the room. I have some questions.” Kynan steered him to the edge of the space and lowered his voice. “Are you and Galen mates? Have you bonded?”
No.” He hadn’t considered Galen as his mate. But after what had happened, he wasn’t convinced he didn’t love Galen as more than a friend. “We’re roommates. He’s my wingman and my best friend.”
Uh-huh.” Kynan met Anders’s gaze. “Here’s the thing. If he’s been infected by something, then he should be dead. He’s not—not yet. If the rogues are involved in this, then they’d want him completely dead. Did you do anything to him? Feed him? Have sex with before he knew he was sick?”
He could lie, but why bother? “Vita told me he was probably in need of blood. I gave him some of mine. Just a few drops. I pushed it on him.”
Kynan nodded once. “Well, you might have saved him. The blood of the super’s pasha works wonders.”
I’m not his pasha.” He wasn’t even sure there was a mate out there for him. He knew damn well there was one for Galen, but he couldn’t be.
You could be surprised.” Kynan elbowed Anders. “We’ll figure out what’s wrong with him. We will. Trust me.”
I’m trying to.”
Right,” Kynan said. “Don’t think about it. I know when I see supers in love. Call it a crossover from Lexa’s gift, but you’re meant for each other.”
He could argue but didn’t. Kynan’s radar was off. He loved Galen and needed him, but they weren’t pashas. He knew better. Galen wasn’t interested in him. He’d never said, yes, let’s fuck. Galen was the solid friend. His other half. He glanced over at Galen. His body warmed and blood rushed to his cock. He longed to sink his dick into Galen and lose himself. He scrubbed his hand across his mouth. What would it feel like to kiss Galen? Not a drunken kiss or a dare but a real one?
Maybe he did have a crush on Galen. Maybe…
Baking Class by Deanna F. Cook
As a seasoned veteran in the kitchen Some of this book was a bit below me so to speak. It is written more on the kid level. BUT I did find some amazing recipes and even learned a thing or to. No matter how much you think you know about something there is always room for improvement and sometimes we just need to go back to the basics if for nothing else then  refresher course. If you are a beginner this book is great. It teaches tips and tricks as well as a whole bunch of wonderful recipes.. I lie how the recipes were broken down into categories. There are some no bake recipes included as well. This book is a great addition to any kitchen. I truly believe in letting kids help in the kitchen,  I even let my 2 year old help me. How else are they going to learn to feed themselves if we do not take the time to show them how to do it? This book like I said is geared more towards kids and beginners. Honestly it will help take some of the stress off of you as a parent/teacher to start with books like this because it will let you remember the whole time you are dealing with children and beginners.
Restless Spirits by Jean Marie Bauhaus
I love reading paranormal books. And My favorite cast of characters are ghosts.. This book was one of the better ones I have read. I love how the characters were predominately ghosts. There were very limited alive characters in the book and they had tiny parts. One the sister had a bit larger part but it was still a small part. I really enjoyed that this book was written in 1st person or should I say 1st ghost since it was the recently deceased Veronica's story.
Veronica "Ron" and her sister own their own paranormal research group. They finally get a chance to investigate a house all paranormal enthusiasts have been dreaming of. Veronica against her sisters wishes goes to the house alone to get a feel for the place. Once there she is killed and becomes one of the resident ghosts of the house.
She learns from the other ghosts in the house that Sarah a small child ghost has turned this house into a prison for all of their souls and there s no escape. Veronica does not this news setting down and is determined to get them all out of the house. She knows her sister will come back to pick up the equipment that she brought with her on the day of her death and starts planning how to communicate with her.
Her sister has always been able to see ghosts but with the way Sarah has their prison set up she knows her sister will not be able to see her. So sh strikes up a plan with the hep of the other ghosts to contact her sister. Eventually Ron figures out what she can and cannot do and how emotions play a part in enabling her to be able to touch things, make herself heard and eventually leave the house. She also figures out that Sarah must be beaten to save all of their souls.
This is kind of a short book, which is good because I couldn't put it down. I read late into the night but finished and was actually able to get some sleep, if it had been longer I probably would of never got any sleep I would of set up all night,
This book is wonderful with so many different types of cookies and ideas for them. I don't see myself running short this year. The hard part this year will be deciding which recipes to use. There are 50 tasty recipes in this book not counting variations.
