Breaking Promises (B-boy 1)
After a devastating accident, Aurora Crane's collegiate gymnastics career comes to an abrupt end…

Fighting to piece her life back together, Aurora packs up and transfers to California State to start anew. When she arrives, her focus is on schoolwork and choosing a new career. But to her surprise, destiny has other plans…

Sucked into the world of competitive breakdancing, Aurora comes toe-to-toe with the hottest B-Boy of them all…

An arrogant hothead, Mitch Adachi—or B-Boy Kickwit as he is more commonly known—has life all figured out. He breakdances all day, practicing for upcoming competitions that are sure to challenge his skills—which means he has no time for distractions.

When the new girl steps into the scene, he sees an opportunity he can’t pass up…

Besides finding Aurora devastatingly attractive, he can’t help but notice her skills. He quickly develops high hopes for the ex-gymnast, seeing her as the perfect potential crewmember for the impending high stakes Battle of the Crews competition. All she needs is some fine-tuning.

When the two commit to a business relationship, a different kind of passion kicks into high gear. There’s no denying they groove well together, but there’s a chance mixing high-stakes competition with a fierce romance might lead to…

Breaking Promises.

BREAKING PROMISES (BBOY #1) EXCERPT
The very first result had a thumbnail…of my crazed face!
I was shaking uncontrollably, but still had the mind to hit ‘Play’ on the video. Some horribly edited auto-tune began to blast from my speakers.
Mitch! Mitch! Mitch!
I will beat your twig ass!
Mitch! Mitch! Mitch!
Toxic Chic
My vision was tinged with red. Somebody made a fucking remix of our argument and I had an inkling of who did. I threw my head back, letting out a war cry, and immediately jumped to my feet. Clemence and Katy were stilled, staring at me as if I had grown two heads.
It didn’t even occur to me to grab my purse, keys, or anything else before I opened the door. I didn’t care how I was going to see Mitch—I’d walk the ten miles to his apartment if I needed to. Of course, I didn’t have to go so far.
I flung the door open and found the chagrined looking b-boy standing awkwardly at my doorstep.
“You!” I growled. From behind me the video still ran, playing on an unending auto-play loop.
Mitch glanced behind me and grimaced. “So you saw?”
“It’s fucking viral!” I growled angrily.
At least Clemence had the decency to shut my computer off.
“I swear, it wasn’t my fault.”
I snorted. “What an apology. How long did it take you to think that excuse up?”

Breaking Hearts (B-boy 2)
Estelle Donovan knew college would force her out of her wallflower ways—but she never dreamed how far…

Known as shy and insecure, eighteen-year-old Estelle left for college with the hope it would bring an adventure of excitement and discovery, and give her plenty of room to spread her wings. But she couldn't have predicted how many changes she’d face—or that one of them would be named Jacob…

Jacob Silas—or B-Boy Spinja, as he’s called—isn’t just another college heartthrob…

After meeting Jacob, Estelle is determined to win his heart. When she stumbles into his world of breakdance, she falls in love with its culture, music, people, and most of all—the realm of competitive dance. For once in her life, the spotlight shines on her, forcing her out of her introvert ways.

But just like life, love is unpredictable…

When Estelle’s plan to win over Jacob backfires, even a new, exciting life can’t heal her broken heart. And as the years pass, Estelle lives with heartache of a once in a lifetime love slipping through her fingers.

Will they ever have a second chance at love? Or will Jacob continue with his dangerous trend of…

Breaking Hearts?

BREAKING HEARTS (BBOY #2) EXCERPT
I’ve only ever regretted three choices in my life. It’s funny, but those three choices started at the exact moment I chose to sneak a peek beside me.
Regret #1: I should have just kept my head down.
Once I caught a glimpse of Jacob standing impossibly close to me in all his shirtless glory I knew I was done for. Any hope of denying my growing infatuation was completely thrown out the window. My heart sped up and my palms became sweaty. If this was the feeling all those love songs were written about, I had no idea how anybody made it through the day.
Regret #2: Word vomit to the extreme.
Despite always having a slight fear of speaking to the opposite sex, for some reason my body went on autopilot. Taking a step closer to him, I lifted my chin and blurted out, “You were amazing out there.”
Why oh why did I choose that exact moment to gain an ability to speak to pure hotness? Even Anna looked as if she was face palming in my honor.
Jacob, who was about six-inches taller than me, looked down in surprise. His eyes met mine and the split second relief I felt from realizing he didn’t think I was a total idiot was completely washed away when he threw me a crooked grin, showcasing the dimple on his right cheek. “Thanks. Glad you like it.”
Don’t say anything more. Don’t say anything more.
“That spinning thing you do is amazing. I’m Estelle, by the way.” Heart beating faster, I giggled uncontrollably.
Fuck me.
Despite the fact that Anna was visibly gagging beside me, Jacob luckily didn’t seem to mind. “Took me a while to perfect it.” He nodded his head, growing a distant look in his eyes. I found myself grasping, trying to imagine what was running through his mind. I leaned up expectantly, wanting to hear more. Jacob must have noticed because he soon looked down and winked. “Glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s cool.”
“I think it’s amazing,” I repeated.
Damn it.

Breaking Free (B-boy 3)
A one-night stand that changes her life forever…

Mallory Carmichael is a pianist who just lost out on the biggest solo of her life. To ease the sting, she heads to the club, where she meets Asher Nolan—a sexy dancer with wicked confidence in his eyes. Mallory loses herself in a night of carefree passion. Little did she know that one hookup could turn her world upside down.

A man who knows what he wants, and how to get it…

Asher—or B-boy Hellhound as he is known in the breakdance scene—is a TV and movie star. He’s used to winning…until his breakdancing game spirals out of control.

After an uncharacteristic loss, Asher becomes convinced the mysterious girl from the club jinxed him. Wanting to reverse the hex, he searches for her online, and it’s not long before #Search4Mallory goes viral.

Mallory didn’t think she’d ever see Asher again, but when she discovers he’s searching for her, she agrees to meet…and quickly regrets it.

She soon discovers how crazy a man like Asher can make her…

Asher convinces Mallory to help him find a supernatural cure for the “hookup jinx.” Navigating the world of mysticism may be challenging, but it’s even harder for them to ignore their growing attraction.

Can Asher ignore the temptation to hook up with his ‘jinx’ once again?

Will Mallory find the right balance between her crazy rehearsal schedule and helping Asher?

One thing is for sure, the only way to get over this hex is by Breaking Free.

BREAKING FREE (BBOY #3) EXCERPT
Both leaned toward me comically, looking like two kids expecting some fairy tale bedtime story. Rolling my eyes, I relented, not so much to appease them, but because I was honestly bursting at the seams to talk about it. After years of being a Type A goodie goodie, I had to admit that doing something out of left field actually felt kind of nice…as did the multiple orgasms that what’s his name gave me.
“It was great,” I gushed. “He wasn’t too rough and made sure he took care of me first. He only went as far as I’d let him.”
Claudia visibly swooned. “A hot guy who is also a gentleman? I didn’t know they made those anymore.”
Jinny nodded in wholehearted agreement, once again leading me to question her impending nuptials. I shoved those feelings aside and continued my little story. “I’ve just never been with a guy like him before, you know? He was sweet, hot, and could really move in bed. He was just…”
“A wonder dick.” Claudia nodded her head with a wink.
“Um, a what?” I shook my head in confusion.
“It has double meaning. First, as you can probably tell, it means that he’s gifted in the sack.”
“It was obvious he was experienced,” I agreed, thinking about the way he’d whisper into my ear. I’d never been one to feel comfortable talking during sex, but after that night I may have to rethink my stance on it.
“Obviously experienced,” Jinny repeated in agreement as she waved a manicured hand in the air.
Claudia nodded in satisfaction. “And second, it means that he was so sweet that you can’t help but wonder if it was all a ruse and he’s actually a dick in real life.”

Sex, blood, and rock n’ roll.

Immortal Dilemma is the hottest show on the Las Vegas Strip, and Tristan Trevosier is their biggest star. But to me, he’s the guy who broke my heart and then showed up on stage claiming to be a vampire.

Now I fear it might be true.

The true darkness of Tristan’s world terrifies me, but when I end up chasing after a vampire, dating his enemy, and hunted by his creator, I realize the only person who will get me into trouble—is me.

EXCERPT:

The tables at Embrace were full by eleven. Donors swirled around the tables, stopping to let a vampire drink, then going back to the rotation with dripping blood from the wound, until the next vampire beckoned them. Many of them had multiple wounds on major arteries. And those blank expressions. It was impossible to tell if they enjoyed it, hated it, or didn’t feel anything anymore, which terrified me the most.

Most of the patrons wanted Venom or wine, and mostly by the bottle. Easy. Two waitresses joined us as the night progressed. High tickets, generous tips, and very little to complain about.

The noise level in the room rocketed after midnight. A rowdy group of guys bellied up to the bar, ordering shots of Patron with Venom chasers. I gasped when I realized it was Immortal Dilemma. I didn’t recognize the rest of the guys without their makeup or expect to see them here. It was a vampire bar, but it was my little corner of the world.

Tristan was at the end, and I caught him smirking out of the corner of my eye.

I passed the bottle of tequila over the four shot glasses and then did the same with Venom. I pushed the glasses in front of the guys, stopping in front of Tristan. They toasted and downed the tequila. Except Tristan, who put his down on the bar. He rose on his stool and pulled me onto the bar.

“What are you doing?” I asked through clenched teeth as he climbed on the bar next to me. He smiled but said nothing as he pushed me down on my back in front of the rest of the band, who hooted and hollered in approval.

“Shouting our relationship for the rooftops. Well, bar top,” he said before he poured his shot in a line from just below my bellybutton to my collarbone and licked it off me.

He was wasted already. Great. I should’ve known better than to think because we’d slept together he’d stop being…this guy. The one who made me crazy. He held my shoulders down on the bar and hooked his feet over my legs. I closed my eyes, and tried not to moan as his tongue moved along the inside of my bra top.

He pulled me up and moved in for a kiss. Before he connected I slapped him across the face. The rest of the band whooped in approval or amusement, I wasn’t sure which one. After the initial shock wore off, Tristan chuckled, which made me want to slap him again.

“What’s wrong, beautiful?” he asked with a lazy smile, his cheek still red from my slap.

“You’ll get me fired.” I pushed him, but he didn’t budge. I looked over his shoulder to see if Lennon or anyone else was paying attention to us, but it was business as usual.

He cupped my face in his hands, so gentle in contrast to what he had just done. “You’re in my world now. The rules are different here.”

“Listen to you, trying to tell me about rules.” Like he’d ever followed one in his life.

“You better start getting used to them.” He had the nerve to laugh again. I gazed out at the tables with a huff as he nuzzled my chest, and my mouth dropped when I saw the crowd parting for Talis. Her entourage trailed behind her— with Blade in tow—bound by his wrists and legs, his bruised face vacant and dark.

I pulled Tristan off me by his hair.

“You like it rough, don’t you?” Desire swirled in his eyes. “We could go into one of the back rooms, or we can continue right here. It’s fun with an audience.”

“Shut up.” I turned his head towards Talis. “She’s got Blade.” I pushed him away, and this time he moved. “Did you know about this?”

“No, but she knows what I do. And you’re her employee. There are no secrets at Embrace.” He watched Blade get dragged into one of the VIP rooms—that minutes before he suggested we use for a quickie—without a hint of sympathy.

I jumped off the bar. This time I wouldn’t slap Tristan, I’d strangle him, and get even madder when he thought it was hilarious. I grabbed Lennon’s arm as she poured a drink.

She nearly dropped the bottle. “What’s going on?” she asked.

“Talis just marched Blade into the backroom. He’s hurt. He’s bound. Did you see him?” My heart thundered in my chest.

“I don’t think anyone saw anything but you and Tristan.” She winked at me.

“I’ll be back.”

It all started one Fourth of July after a hair band show and a few drinks. I had a dream about a girl trying to make her way in Las Vegas that was so vivid I actually moved there to try to write a book about it. It took me almost ten years and a move back to Boston to get it done, but that dream became Because The Night. My love of dark paranormal books and the biographies of 60’s and 70’s rock stars inspired my writing style. I write a lot, but when I’m not doing that I can probably be found on a movie set doing makeup. I also love making my house look like a Pinterest board, cooking, watching football, and traveling. I live with my cockatiel, McGee, and I'm always in search of the next happily ever after.

About Charles O'Donnell

Charles O’Donnell writes thrillers with high-tech themes in international and futuristic settings. He recently retired from a career of thirty-five years in engineering and manufacturing to write full-time, leveraging his decades of writing experience, mostly email, but, as Charles points out, “that counts.”

His latest book, Shredded, is an expression of his fascination with the progress of technology to either augment reality or to replace it entirely, and his concern over the erosion of privacy in a world in which everything is shared online, and nobody reads the terms and conditions.

The Pumpkin Cookbook, 2nd Edition DeeDee Stovel

I love pumpkin. So I was thrilled when I ran across this book on netgalley and even more thrilled when they sent me a ARC copy.  I will be making one of the pumpkin muffins in the morning for our Saturday morning breakfast. There are some super simple recipes in this book as well as some more advanced ones. But they all sound fantastic and before I am done I will probably end up making most of them. The book is easy to read. I love how the fist part of the book explains the different types of pumpkins, ways to peel ad cut, storage and more. I learned a lot from these tips and tricks. I love to cook and really love using fresh ingredients, the tips are very useful so I don't end up with waste.

children's book Annabelle and Aiden: Oh The Things We Believed! by JR Becker

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Book Description:

In this delightful illustrated book written in rhyme, the
children gaze at a face-shaped cloud. Aiden asks if it is real: "I sense
it really sees me. Who knows what it can do! Maybe it has magic powers
that make the sky so blue!" To answer, we introduce our favorite
feathered-dinosaur, the Skeptisaurus, who guides the children to use their
critical thinking skills when determining myth from fact. He takes the kids on
an amazing journey through legends of old times, from witches to oracles,
explaining how we evolved to see things that aren't always there. But when
those myths vanish, they see that real scientific discovery is just as
exciting, if not more. With his help, the kids learn that "real answers
may not be magic, but they are always magical." This book raised over
$11,000 in pre-orders on Kickstarter.

Excerpt:

Annabelle and Aiden
stared up at a cloud.
When something it did
made them gasp out loud.

It swirled into
the strangest shape.
A nose! A face!
They had to gape.

“I sense it really sees me.
Who knows what it can do?
Maybe it has magic powers
that make the sky so blue.”

“Maybe yes, maybe no,” said
a rainbow-feathered snout.
“I’m Skeptisaurus the dinosaur.
It seems like you’re in doubt.”

“Before accepting your guess
just based on how you feel,
Let’s admit we just don’t know,
and discover if it’s real.”

“But discovery takes work and time!
Why search, when we just could
accept the answers we made up
like feelings say we should?”

“Feelings are important;
they add beauty to our life.
But for telling us what’s real outside,
they can cause lots of strife.”

“Why would they trick us?”
I thought you might ask.
Cuz we got them from people
from our long ago past.

People that survived
by running from a bear.
Or any sort of sound or threat
that often wasn’t there.

That’s why we think monsters
are the sounds under our beds.
And make up our own authors
for the voices in our heads.

We’re wired to see patterns
like pictures in grilled cheese.
On Mars, in stars, in cliffsides -- Oh,
the things we once believed!

My Review:
Annabelle and Aiden are 2 kids who lern that discovering the true answer is the best way to go. Yes it may take time to come up with the answer but it is much better then just making up a nswer or reason to lifes little questions.

This is a very cute and short story. It is written in rhyme. The story goes very quick. The pictures on the page will greatly slow your reading time down. There is so much going on on these pages. They are by no means over done or confusing they just really catch your eye.

There is also kind of a sub story going on on a lot of the pages. It is actually telling facts or tidbits to the pictures. Like the page where they are talking about birds flying south. It quickly explains how the Stork got its connection to births.

This is a very nice book. I even learned a few things. The pictures like I said are vibrant, busy, and very well drawn. I read this to my Grand Kids who are 2 and 4 and they really liked the pictures and the story as well.
