Stiff Drink by Blair Babylon blitz

Stiff Drink
Blair Babylon
(Runaway Billionaires: Arthur Duet #1)
Publication date: March 21st 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Genevieve is a lawyer, not a babysitter, and certainly not a dog trainer. She is just about to become a full barrister, a British litigating attorney, when her law mentor dies unexpectedly. She is shuffled off to another barrister, one who’s nothing at all like her kind and decent former mentor, and then she is assigned the office’s worst case: Arthur Finch-Hatten, six-feet and four-inches of ripped, loaded, hot English nobleman who is wasting his life and his inherited estate so audaciously that his younger brother is suing him for control of their family’s earldom. There is a darn good chance that Arthur will lose everything, even his crazed, badly behaved puppy.

Unless he shapes up.

Her new boss hasn’t been able to convince Arthur to mend his ways. His uncle’s lectures haven’t had any effect on his depraved debauchery and lavish lifestyle.

The only way for Genevieve to make partner is to win Arthur’s case, and the only way to win his case and save his earldom is to keep him from spending his days hungover in bed and his nights pouring Cristal on naked, drunk women before flying off in his private jumbo jet to the next party.

Arthur was enough to make any woman need a stiff drink.

EXCERPT:

When he strolled in, Lord Arthur Finch-Hatton, the Earl of Severn, was still staring straight ahead at the window that overlooked the crowded streets of central London, so Gen’s first look at him was his profile.

Morning sunlight streaming in the window clung to his golden skin. His cheekbones were hard slashes, and his jaw was a sharp right angle above the crisp, white collar of the dress shirt and black business suit he wore. His lush lips curved in a smile, as if looking over London from such a prestigious advantage suited him. The subtle lift of his chin and roll of his broad shoulders suggested that, had history been different, he might have ruled the land that spread beneath the window.

He turned to survey the rest of the room and caught Gen sitting at the table, gaping at him.

Oh, God. She was staring.

He always caught her staring.

She was staring at the black curls of his dark hair that stroked his ears and the back of his neck, and she was staring at the way his very precisely tailored suit skimmed his strong shoulders and the rounded biceps of his arms and then narrowed at his waist and hips, and she was staring at his extravagant height and his long legs and the way his head tilted with amusement as he caught her staring at him again.

Gen’s brain turned to goo.

Damn, Lord Severn was one gorgeous man.

The goo in her mind grew fuzzy tendrils, and cotton candy filled her skull and stopped up her ears.

Her thoughts slowed as she met his eyes.

My God. His eyes.

His eyes weren’t blue or gray or any color that she had ever seen on a real human being before.

His eyes shimmered with an unexpected delight and intelligence.

They narrowed when he smiled that good-natured, natural smile that beckoned to her.

And most of all, his eyes sparkled silver and were bounded by a dark blue ring.

They changed color depending on the light, from baby blue to silvery-gray and all the shades in-between. Gen saw all the variations as he turned his face from the sunlight toward her.

They were beguiling, magical, unearthly.

That was not damn fair.

Gen had heard about peoples’ knees weakening, but she was already sitting down. Still, her bones turned to soft clay, and she grabbed the sides of her chair because she was in danger of slithering out of it and onto the carpeting under the conference room table.

Lord Severn walked toward her.

It was customary for barristers to stand when greeting a client.

She should stand up. You really should stand up.

Stand up, dammit.

Gen gripped the sides of her chair and pushed with her arms to lift herself to her feet.

Even though too-tall Gen was wearing blunt, two-inch heels, Lord Severn was still inches taller than she was. At least four inches. Which meant he was at least six-four.

Blathering. Her brain was blathering.

His tie was the same azure-silver as his eyes but glimmering silk.

Dizziness spun her head, and she gasped for air because she had forgotten how to breathe.

At her stupid sucking sound, Lord Severn smiled, though it was a sad smile like he regretted that his mere presence was overwhelming her so.

He pulled out a chair on the other side of the table. “I was terribly sorry to hear about Horace Lindsey’s untimely death. He was an excellent barrister and a family friend.”

Even though it was only eleven-thirty in the morning, Lord Severn’s breath carried a faint whiff of whiskey under the mint, like he had just come from a gentleman’s brunch.

Gen’s mind searched for words.

Any words.

Wut arrre werdz.

She gathered her brain together and squeezed something out.

“Yes, it was a great loss to us all,” she managed.

EXCERPT:

I moved to stand where she’d be able to see me, not really caring if I was blocking the view for some other person waiting. I widened my stance and with my arms crossed over my chest, I kept my eyes trained as far back as I could see. My gaze shifted over the different travelers coming in; the only person I wanted to see was a brunette with crazy colored eyes.

And then I saw her.

The feeling that overtook me was like a drowning man getting his first breath of air. A starving man getting a fucking full-course meal.

She didn’t see me yet, but she would in time. There were maybe eighty people between us and she was nearing.

Her hair was braided over her shoulder, wisps of hair falling out and framing her face. She was wearing leggings and those damned boots of hers, but I was surprised to see her shirt was the girly type, long with cuts up the sides, nearly to her waist, and lacy sleeves that played peek-a-boo with the colors adorning her arm. She didn’t carry a bag, just her phone in one hand.

I licked my bottom lip before biting it gently, trying to stop the smile from spreading on my face. Didn’t want to look like a complete moron.

Forty feet.

Her gaze was down at the floor, no doubt watching where she was walking. It didn’t surprise me she was careful like that.

Thirty feet.

Look up, Asher…Look up.

Twenty feet.

Her face lifted and, like a magnet, her eyes locked on mine instantly.

And the smile on her face?

God damn.

There was no sense stopping my full-ass smile now, not with the one she just shot my way.

If you would have told me, four months ago, I would be the most celibate man in the history of earth, all for the glimpses of smiles from that girl there with more secrets behind her eyes than I could ever hope to uncover, I probably would have laughed in your face.

Four months ago, I was gearing up for my rookie season in South Carolina.

Four months ago, I was a kid with a big name, going to a team that had nothing to do with said big name.

Four months ago, it was rumored I would be the new hot shot in town. Nico certainly didn’t fail to show me the gossip sites, seemingly run by a bunch of puck bunnies.

But four months ago, I walked into Starbucks for a goodbye coffee with my sister, and met the girl with secrets.

And four months ago, I became addicted without so much as a taste.

Now that I’ve had that taste? Shit, I couldn’t wait for more.

America Star Books Presents The Orphan of Mecca, Book One by Harvey Havel

Frederick, MD October 16, 2014 – America Star Books is proud to present The Orphan of Mecca, Book One by Harvey Havel from Albany, NY.

A brief synopsis of the book: "Amina prepares for college on what is expected to be an exciting first day of higher learning. When she steps onto the university campus for the first time, however, she bumps into Raja Gupta, a young, persuasive, and hot-headed university intellectual who lures her into joining a student group whose cause is the liberation of East Pakistan from West Pakistan. What follows is a stormy and passionate romance detailing the lives of both Raja Gupta and Amina Mitra as they both attempt to survive from one of the worst genocides of historical record—a genocide that ultimately leads to the birth of the poor and crippled nation known today as Bangladesh. This novel is written with historical accuracy and is Book One of a trilogy that charts the rise and fall of these two characters, as well as the son that is orphaned after Amina Mitra is forced to abandon him in the Great Mosque of Mecca."

Me Tall, You Small by Lilli L'Arronge

This is a very simple book. it does not per say have a story to it. It basically shows the difference  in the lifestyle roles between Adult and child using mouse like critters in day to day life.  My favorite page is the page where the adult is laying down with a haggard look on its face and the small one is doing flips. The page simply says: Me: tired You: wired. Got a love it.

The Forest Sleeps by Calee M. Lee

I am very fortunate to have a very close family. Between my husband and I we have 4 grown children and they have blessed us with 11 Grand children, 6 of which are under 6. The kids spend a lot of time here with us. We love to snuggle in a chair and read books and when they sleep over they always get bedtime stories..

This book is perfect for those nights. Each set of pages feature a single type of animal. It tells the animals name, where they live and tells them goodnight. The book has just one sentence on each page, so it is a very short book. I like books with an educational aspect to them. I feel like I am not just reading a mindless story to the kids. And usually the kids do remember at least part of the lessons in the book.  The pictures in the book are very engaging with the kids as well. You have Momma or Daddy critter tucking the baby in, so it gives it a sweet and loving aspect as well. What more could you ask for in a book.

Elgin Park: Visual Memories of Midcentury America at 1/24th scale by Michael Paul Smith, Gail K. Ellison

I am in shock and awe of what one man has done with a folding table, a toy car, and a doll house. This book is basically a behind the scenes look at how Michael Paul Smith builds his photography town of Elgin Park. What goes into making the houses and buildings. How he comes up with his backstory for the town. And a small introduction into the mind of a Photography Super Hero. Anyone who is into photography who sees this book will probably agree with me when I call him a Super Hero.

When I first saw this book I was thinking I was just going to get a book of photographs but I got so much more. I loved reading about how Michael Paul Smith came up with Elgin Park, how he builds his backdrops, how he twists a photo into a meaningful story.
I have a true love of photography.

I have well over 100,000 pictures on my hard drive I have taken myself but nothing like this. I see, I like, I take a picture of it. Michael Paul Smith see's with is imagination, takes a toy car from his vast collection, builds a house or building then goes out in the town he lives in to find the perfect backdrop for his photos. Whether it is a bridge, a set of trees, another building, or just in his driveway.

Michael Paul Smith has invented his own town called Elgin Park. He bases it on the town of Sewickley Pennsylvania, where he grew up.

Michael Paul Smith builds his own houses to 1/24 scale. He completely furnishes most of them all hand made mind you. He has thought of everything from the tiniest napkin holders in the diner to the tarps to cover cars.

His photos have no people but his captions added to each photo tells the story of the lives of the people in Elgin Park without their faces. Your minds eye can picture this town with people everywhere doing their day to day thing, shopping, working, kids playing, dogs barking whatever. It really makes you want to pack and move to this small imaginary town.

If you were to see these photos without knowing they were props you would think they were real life photo's taken in the 20's to the 60's when life was simpler. some of these photo's are taken on Michael's kitchen counter's but you would never know. Everything is done to scale. You cannot tell where reality and prop begin or end in the photo's. They look so real. This a a book I will be cherishing for years to come. I may even try some tips I learned in the book just to see what and if I can come anywhere near accomplishing even the tiniest bit of what Michael Paul Smith has.

Baa's Shapes by M J Berke, Jake Tebbit

This is a really cute and very short book. But it is educational.  It teaches the 4 main shapes, square, circle, triangle, and rectangle.  The book features Baa a happy little sheep who enjoys munching on grass. While munching he turns the grass into the different shapes. After his busy day he takes a nap on the small square of grass he has left. Cute and quick story for children from 1 to 4 and even new readers.
