The Guests on South Battery (Tradd Street #5) by Karen White Review

Karen White did not let me down with this the 5th book in the Tradd Street Series. I love how well this series is written. How as she adds new characters she keeps the old ones the same. I love love love the ghosts. Ghosts are my favorite form of the paranormal genre. I also love the mystery she adds to each of the Tradd Street books.

In this book Melanie is going back to work after her marriage to Jack and the birth of their twins. Her first client on her first day has inherited and old house from someone she has never met.

Jayne Smith has no desire to own much less live in the old house so she sees Melanie to help her sell the house and to find her a new modern house. She is also looking for a job as a Nanny and Melanie just happens to be looking for one for the twins.

Melanie, Jayne and others go to the old hour to decide what to do with it. What needs to be fixed, what needs to be tossed, and what needs to be kept. The Cat is the first thing that needs to go. Melanie and Jayne see the cat but no one else does. The cat is just the first ghost that appears. Melanie during her pregnancy lost her ability to see ghosts but now that sh is no longer pregnant the sight is slowly coming back, but she still feels at times a curtain has been pulled down. So she also asks her mother for help.

I did have some idea as to how the story was going to end early int he book was was still surprised about a few things they uncovered later in the story. I really like Karen Whites writing style and as long as she writes the Tradd Street Series I will greedily grabbing up her books.

I did listen to this books audio version. I was driving home from my Daughter's by myself. It is an 8 hour trip and Melanie and the gang kept me company and entertained the whole way. Definitely made the trip go a lot faster.

REVIEW: Split Rock by Holly Hodder Eger

I am very happy I read this book. at times I wanted to yell holler and scream at other times I wanted and few time did cry.  This was a gripping book to me. It is all about love, loss, forgiving, accepting, and moving on with the slaps life loves to give.  I really enjoyed and could relate to the characters in this book from the main ones to the ones with little parts as well. I really enjoyed the way Holly Hodder Eger took you to the house on Martha's Vineyard.  She described the people, places, and things just enough to let you visualize but not so much I got bored and started scanning pages to get back to the story.  The book took on a true to life story and done a great job with it. I love fantasy but when I am reading a book like this I appreciate it when everything is imaginable. Some of the things brought up in this book we can all relate too, some even more then 1 situation.

Before long, the writing bug had bitten her, and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is, until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.

Olivia has attended three different universities over the years and toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology. Then one day she heard the term “road scholar,”' and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. A Fine Year for Murder by Lauren Carr Review tour

Book Description for A FINE YEAR FOR MURDER:

After months of marital bliss, Jessica Faraday and Murphy Thornton are still discovering and adjusting to their life together. Settled in their new home, everything appears to be perfect … except in the middle of the night when, in darkest shadows of her subconscious, a deep secret from Jessica’s past creeps to the surface to make her strike out at Murphy.

When investigative journalist Dallas Walker tells the couple about her latest case, known as the Pine Bridge Massacre, they realize Jessica may have witnessed the murder of a family living near a winery owned by distant relatives she was visiting and suppressed the memory.

Determined to uncover the truth and find justice for the murder victims, Jessica and Murphy return to the scene of the crime with Dallas Walker, a spunky bull-headed Texan. Can this family reunion bring closure for a community touched by tragedy or will this prickly get-together bring an end to the Thorny Rose couple?

Book Trailer for A FINE YEAR FOR MURDER:

Book Description for KILL AND RUN:

Five women with seemingly nothing in common are found brutally murdered in a townhome outside Washington, DC. Among the many questions surrounding the massacre is what had brought these apparent strangers together only to be killed.

Taking on his first official murder case, Lieutenant Murphy Thornton, USN, believes that if he can uncover the thread connecting the victims, then he can find their murderer.

The case takes an unexpected turn when Murphy discovers that one of the victims has a connection to his stepmother, Homicide Detective Cameron Gates. One wintry night, over a dozen years before, her first husband, a Pennsylvania State trooper, had been run down while working a night shift on the turnpike.

In this first installment of the Thorny Rose Mysteries, the Lovers in Crime join newlyweds Lieutenant Murphy Thornton and Jessica Faraday to sift through a web of lies and cover-ups. Together, can the detectives of the Thorny Rose uncover the truth without falling victim to a cunning killer?

My review of A Fine Year for Murder:

Jessica Faraday witnessed a whole family being murdered 15 years ago but has suppressed the memories. Now in the present she has started to have nightmares about that night and is starting to remember bits and pieces of those memories she suppressed. Poor Murphy is catching the brunt of it as she is attacking him during her nightmares.

Dallas Walker is an investigative reporter. Her newest story is about the Pine Bridge Massacre. As she tells Murphy and Jessica about it they come to the conclusion that Jessica did actually witness the murders.

Jessica and Murphy head to Pine Ridge to solve the murders and to help Jessica with her suppressed memories and so Murphy can get a good nights sleep without Jessica trying to kill him.

Lauren has done it again with this book. I really loved all the twist and turns in the investigation. Every time I kind of thought I had it figured out, a new twist would come along. There are actually a couple of mysteries in the book. It is a very fast paced book. I couldn't stop once I started this book. I really enjoy Lauren Carr's books. I liked the Mac Faraday series and I really enjoyed the 1st book in this series as well. I love how she keeps the same characters and also adds to the list with each book. I like how she crossed over some of the characters from the Mac Faraday series.

I did listen to the audiobook which was given to me as art of a book tour promotion.

Blurb Blitz: How to Catch A Cowboy by Sandra Madden

How to Catch A Cowboy
by Sandra Madden

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Western Historical
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Matilda Rose Applebee isn't looking for love when she captures Cooper T. Davis at gunpoint. Her younger sister is in the family way and claims Cooper is responsible. Matilda aims to haul the snake-belly back to her sister's waiting arms. But Cooper insists Matty's sister is mistaken as they begin a long and dangerous journey.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
"You're the best dancer of all," she said, gazing up into his eyes, a beguiling smile on her lips.
Moist, pink lips, full and sweet. Lips he yearned to kiss. "Matilda Rose, be careful or you'll bewitch me," Cooper warned.
She laughed, a light lilting laugh, as if he'd said something terribly amusing.
As they danced slowly, silently, the tantalizing movements of her body pressed to his, propelled Coop's heart into an irregular rhythm. The smoky simmer of desire curled through his core, shot to his fingertips. Like some demented soul, he continued to torture himself with a woman he could not have.
When the music ended, his lips grazed the top of her head, stealing a taste of her sweet, silky hair.
Matilda Rose stepped back, her lips parted in a dazzling smile, her eyes sparkling as they met his. She had no idea how he felt, how much he wanted her.
(Due to the public broadcasting budget each person is expected to fill a variety of roles for one salary. One small salary.) I focused on How-To series, public affairs – of the political kind - and women’s issues. During this time I met many inspiring women who shared their stories with me, women whose remarkable achievements, great spirits and strength influenced my work as I started to write. First, I became a published poet. It didn’t take much time for me to write short verses.
As with most writers, I wrote my first historical novels in the evenings after my day job. A second wind is required to do this and it magically appears with the passion for writing.
Passion for the writing and persistence in submitting are the keys to becoming a published author.  The secrets of the sisterhood gleaned from lessons learned along the way.
Not long after being published I discovered that a writer’s life is not all about the voices in your head demanding release to a page – frequently at an inopportune time. And it’s not all about three figure contracts, champagne tours and as much chocolate as you can consume. Oh. No. A writer’s life includes thundering deadlines, dry spells, assorted blocks, carpel tunnel syndrome and frozen shoulders. Occasionally, the green-eyed monster rears her head and wraps grown women in knots. But most of all, writing romance is a wonderful love story in itself. There is nothing else a romance writer would rather be doing. She is totally in love with romance and with the ability to share her stories with gracious readers. Thank you, dear reader.
