Blurb Blitz Tour: Wilde Thing by Jannine Gallant

WILDE THING
by Jannine Gallant

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

The Wilde brothers are addicted to the rush of adventure. But one of them is about to learn no matter how often you look for danger, you don’t want danger finding you.

For extreme skier Tripp Wilde, pushing the limits is what he lives for. Unfortunately, the inherent risk takes a toll on his body. After an injury sidelines him, he ends up in the care of his little sister’s best friend, physical therapist Hannah Ryder—who has grown up in all the right ways since they last met.

Hannah doesn’t mix business with pleasure, even though she harbored a maddening crush on the irresistible Tripp years before. So, while Tripp tries every slick maneuver he knows to bed her, Hannah uses her own moves to keep the hotshot skier cooled off while trying to control her own growing desire for him.

After the pair witness what they think may be a murder on the slopes, along with the men responsible, no one believes their story. But when a series of unlikely accidents suggests they are being targeted, the two will have to trust in each other like never before if they are going to survive.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
When the door to his hospital room opened, Tripp didn’t bother to glance up from the text he was trying to send one-handed. He fumbled the phone and swore then tossed it down on the bed. “Damn it. This sucks. I feel like a freaking invalid.”
“Problem?”
His chin came up as his gaze shot toward the doorway. Not Jake, who’d left to get something to eat and promised to come back later to drive him home. Hannah Ryder. His little sister’s old college roommate. Once in a while, when he was actually home and not to the far corners of the world, he caught sight of Hannah around town, but they’d never been anything but casual acquaintances at best. From the way her golden eyes narrowed on him, Tripp got the feeling she could take him or leave him…and would prefer the latter.
“I guess I wasn’t imagining you were on the hill this morning when they hauled me out of the avalanche.”
“No, you weren’t.” She advanced into the room and stopped a yard short of his bed. Hands tucked into the pockets of her down jacket, she regarded him steadily. “How’re you feeling?”
Strong was the word that sprang to mind as he studied Hannah. Those golden eyes reflected intelligence in their depths along with a mental toughness. Model tall but without scrawny angles, this woman looked capable of taking down any man stupid enough to mess with her without permission. Not that he’d ever try.
Tripp let out a breath. “Uh, I’m feeling okay. A little loopy from the pain meds. I imagine my shoulder will hurt like hell when they wear off.”
“Probably, but they’ll give you more drugs to manage any discomfort. I ran into a friend on the nursing staff out in the hall and got the basic facts. No fractures. That’s great.”
He scowled. “The dislocated shoulder is bad enough.”
“And only a mild concussion. You were extremely lucky. You could easily have been killed.”
He rolled his eyes. “Aren’t you Miss Glass Half-full. Lucky would have been not getting caught in the avalanche. Really lucky would have been finishing my run before the cornice broke free.”
Her golden cat eyes darkened to the color of her tawny-brown hair as she tucked a stray lock behind one ear. “I’ll report back to Eden that you’re not going to drop dead anytime soon…unless one of the nurses gets fed up with your bad mood and kills you.”
Blast for The Second Time Around by Ella Quinn
The Second Time Around
by Ella Quinn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Historical Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Can a beautiful Worthington widow find love again? Depends on who’s asking . . .
Before he died, Patience was the Earl of Worthington’s second wife. So why shouldn’t Patience be allowed a second chance at marriage, too? Of course, finding a new husband was not something the mother of four had ever planned on. But a surprise encounter with her first love has suddenly made the impossible seem possible all over again . . .
It seems like a lifetime ago that Richard, Viscount Wolverton, was halfway around the world, looking for adventure . . . while Patience, at her coming-out, was left with no choice but to take old Worthington’s hand. Richard never forgot the woman whose heart he yearned for—and now that he’s back, he’s not going to let her slip away again . . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt Two:

Patience gasped. Not loudly, she was much too self-contained to draw attention to herself. But Richard could feel her pulse jump, and he was pleased that he still had the ability to shake her calm, to make her react to him. He wondered if her old husband had been able to command her attention in the same way. The corners of his lips twitched. Probably not. Whether she knew it or not, she was his and always had been.

If only he hadn’t been such an idiot. Who forgets the year of his beloved’s come out? A young man who had traveled halfway across the world looking for adventure, that was who. By the time he had returned home, it was just days before her marriage to Lord Worthington. He had argued with her father to be able to see her, but it was as if her parents had locked her in the house. When they’d traveled to Town for the wedding, he had followed. However, his pains had been to no avail. Neither her mother nor father was going to let him ruin their plans for Pae. After all, an earl outranked the heir to a viscount. There was also the scandal that would ensue if she broke the betrothal just days before the nuptials. He would not have cared, but he was the only one. Even his parents would have been appalled if Pae jilted Worthington for Richard.

Too late. That is what everyone had told him. But he wasn’t too late now.

EXCERPT - BLIND FAITH

Josh stared at the woman before him. If ever there was any doubt he’d hooked up with someone too young, the look in Tish’s eyes at that moment cured him of it. She hadn’t been hanging out here, shitting her panties over her makeup being broken or her clothes being dirty because a bad man had touched them. She’d been trying to figure out the next logical step; medical care for whoever needed it—she’d thought that might be him and her concern was beautiful—a surface or deep clean to get the house in shape again, a possible insurance claim.

He lifted a finger, and, ignoring his body as it burned as hot for her as his heart, he explained a couple of things. “One. The next time you wanna yell at me, you keep that shit under wraps until we’re alone. You understand?”

She glanced around and only then seemed to notice the volume of voices out in the kitchen had gone real low. She looked properly horrified, so he went on.

“Two. I will not call in a report to you. Not ever. But if you want to send a text next time to make sure your old man isn’t dead, feel free. I’ll happily answer it.”

“Three. I’m sorry. I was totally blowing you off, and I get how insulting that is. Forgive me.”

She went to move toward him, but he held up his spread fingers.

“Four.” He leaned his upper body into her, close enough that the sweetness of vanilla trailed under his nostrils. “I am your big bad man, and I have every fucking right to put you on that shelf. Only, in my head, it’s a pedestal, and I’ll jam you up there and keep every fucking secret in the world from you if I think it will make your life better. Why? Because I want you happy more than I want you informed. You’re gonna have to get used to that because it’s not gonna change no matter how much you bitch and moan about it. Got it? Tish?”

She nodded, her mouth tight.

“And, five, where the fuck did you see a dead body?”

“When we were in Phoenix, my mom once made a buy off a dealer who lived under a bridge. As she sampled the shit, then exchanged drugs for money, I stared at a naked woman lying spread-eagled on a dirty mattress in the corner. Her eyes stared back, and I made a game of waiting to see how long it would be before her chest moved. My mom dragged me away before it could, so I guess the woman won.”

Josh’s soul crumpled and wept as it did every time she casually shared one of her stories. He slid his fingers into her hair and tipped her head back with his thumbs under her jaw. “I’m sorry, Tish-Tosh,” he whispered. “You don’t know how badly I want to give you a new past.”

Her entire face compressed. “I’m angry with you, Josh. You’re not supposed to say stuff like that.”

“Sorry, babe. I’m trying here.” He brought their mouths together and apologized with a slow kiss that turned into something more the second she got her hands under his shirt. The heat from her palms was a tease, but he could have handled that. The scrape of her fingernails as she focused on a spot above his belt buckle, no. She wanted in his pants. And he wanted to give her what she wanted.

A loud bang killed the mood.

“Food’s ready!”

Holding Tish to him, he leaned over and threw the door open. Chase stood there with his hand over his eyes, but his fingers were separated. The cacophony going on behind him was once again at full level. He gave them the once over then looked at the clothes littered all over the floor.

“You’ll have to learn to multi-task, Tish. Least you could have done while showing off your brass balls is wash your uncle’s jeans.”

He walked off laughing.

“Fuckin’ idiot,” Josh muttered as he took Tish’s hand and brought it to his cock. Her quiet gasp was the sweetest thing. “Squeeze me.”

She gripped him, and contracted her hand, making it an experience when she did it with little pulses that unknowingly mimicked a coming pussy. Pride showed in her smile when he groaned.

“You want that?”

“Yes, even though I’m still sort of mad, I’d take you.”

“I’ll give it to you after church. If we can get away with it, we’re spending the day in bed tomorrow.”

She looked excited and skeptical all at once. “In my uncle’s house?”

He nodded and looked at the empty doorway, smirking. “Yeah. And I’m gonna make you scream the fuckin’ place down. Twenty bucks says he and Chase stay away for the duration. We’ll toss our dirty sheets on top of all this shit,” he added, thinking that might be a nice touch.

Tish’s cheeks flamed, and she was still laughing as she pulled him out of the house. She led him around a table loaded down with empanadas, grilled steaks, ribs and burgers, and his favorite; Mesquite-smoked, bacon-wrapped Sonoran dogs. He held their plates while Tish filled them, and didn’t miss how the discreet looks from Beth and Fiona turned into relieved smiles when they saw Tish happy. Because they knew her story, they all wanted her in a good place.

Lucky for him, he was the chosen one who would get her there.

Excerpt

I hurried back up the aisle, looking for a break in the foliage where I could step across, but the wall of green was impenetrable. My boots clattered on the stone floor, and I almost lost my footing as I came around the corner. I caught a glimpse of a figure turning past a small forest of bare poles standing in tall thin pots.
            More carefully now, I followed, watching the occasional pools of standing water and mossy patches on the uneven flags. I turned down the same space that the figure had gone and gagged. The stench was foul. I buried my nose in the elbow of my coat and stumbled backwards. My heel caught on one of the tall pots. I grabbed at the pole to catch my balance, but it swayed away under my weight and snapped. I fell heavily on the floor, a length of cane in my hand and the other canes clattering against each other in mock applause.
            I stood gingerly, wincing against the sharp pain of a blossoming bruise. The intake of the foul miasma hit me like a blow. I took a few cautious steps, using the length of cane as a walking stick.
            We had taken a pirate laden with slaves and bound for Port of Spain once. The Thame had stumbled on him by chance on the high seas, and did some damage before a long chase commenced. The pirates had given up looking after their cargo for some days by the time we finally overcame them and boarded the ship.
            In the hold, we had found a hundred souls dead, and only a handful alive. They were barely recognisable as men in their filth and malnutrition, packed into the darkness with death. We took the survivors on board and burned the shattered remains of the ship with its grisly contents. Some nights the smell of that hold haunted me. And now, I had found it once more in a stuffy corner of this oppressive glasshouse.
            My mind reeled between the present and past. Before me, a row of corpses slowly decayed into the boards of a ship’s hold. I doubled over and retched up scalding bile. I spat to clear my mouth and squeezed my eyes shut against the vision. Minutes passed before I dared to look up again.
            Before me were rows upon rows of noxious-looking fungi. They grew in shallow trays of straw-flecked manure, distended stems rising to lopsided caps. The sickly dark-yellow colour was deeply unwholesome, similar to the lantern lit bodies of the dead slaves. The fungi varied from six inches to a foot tall, and the mature ones seemed to be the same across.
            At least eight tables laden were with these trays. Oozing stems showed some had been recently harvested. I reached out my hand in horrified fascination. Something in their vile shape called out to be squeezed. Two soft footsteps fell behind me, and a strong hand gripped my wrist.
