NBTM: The Soul Seekers Series by Marilee Brothers

THE SOUL SEEKERS SERIES
by Marilee Brothers

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB for AFFLICTION (Book One):

Twenty-two year old Honor Melanie (Mel) Sullivan has an affliction. Due to childhood trauma and inappropriate social behavior, she is diagnosed with Aspergers, a form of autism. But, Mel knows Aspergers is not her true affliction. She prefers not to gaze into a person’s eyes because she is a soul reader, and what she sees can be frightening. It can also get Mel into trouble.

After a brush with the law, Mel leaves her family home in Southern California and travels to Oregon where she meets Harley-Davidson riding William McCarty (Billy the Kid) and stumbles upon a human trafficking/baby-selling scheme involving a foreign girl from Kazakhstan, and others. Even though Mel's life is in danger, she won't stop until she finds the answers that will help those unable to help themselves.

BLURB for ALLEGIANCE (Book Two):

Transplanted California girl, Melanie Sullivan, vows to stay in Oregon until she nails the killer of her best friend, Dani. Mel’s ability to search a soul for innocence or guilt is a big plus. Her love for Billy the Kid, former Marine and now a detective with the 3 Peaks police department is also a factor in her decision. She’s not quite sure what’s going on with Billy. Has the PTSD from his Middle East deployments returned?

When a hate crime is committed in 3 Peaks, Mel is recruited by sexy Homeland Security agent, Mick, who requires her soul-reading ability. Mick doesn’t hide his feelings. He’s more than eager to step in if Billy steps out, a complication Mel doesn’t need or want. As she goes undercover, Mel embarks on a dangerous journey, aided by her Uncle Paco and devoted friends. Along the way, she learns a valuable lesson about the power of forgiveness.

Excerpt One:

I lean down to drop a chaste farewell kiss on his forehead. A split second later, I’m flat on my back, pinned to the bed and Billy the Kid grins down at me like a naughty little boy. He rips out his ear buds and pulls the cord free until the music washes over us. It’s a rock and roll tune, a blast from the past.

“Hey, baby,” he says. “Wanna dance?”

Before I can form an answer, I’m swept off the bed and twirled around until I’m dizzy and laughing uncontrollably.

He sets me on the floor and pulls me tight against his body. “You sneaking out on me, Minnie Mouse?

I manage a weak, breathless protest. “I’m supposed to meet Steve at 9:30 a.m. I need to get going.”

He cups my face between his palms and brushes his lips across mine. “You sure about that?”

“Well, um...”My body says bring it on. My brain chimes in, promptness is overrated.

Affliction:

Allegiance:

Interview with Marilee Brothers

Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

That’s a complex question! Inspiration is like dipping water from many wells. First and foremost, it comes from my personal history. When I wrote Moonstone, which morphed into a five book series titled Unbidden Magic, my main character was a fifteen-year-old girl. I had no problem tapping into my fifteen-year-old self, even though quite a few years have passed. Now, I’m once again writing for adults and, even though I have fantasy in my books, I like to keep them relevant by including current issues. For example, Affliction deals with a human trafficking/baby-selling scheme while one of the plotlines in Allegiance involves a hate crime. The fantasy aspect springs from my extremely overactive imagination.

How did you do research for your book?

When I first started writing, the Internet did not exist. I spent a lot of time at the library. Now, I can do research while at home in my jammies – so much easier. I have a digital notebook where I keep relevant pieces of information as well as pictures of what I imagine my main characters look like. I also clip articles from newspapers and magazines. For example, the book I’m currently writing features a paramilitary type encampment in the mountains where the residents are heavily armed. I found an extensive article about such a group in our local paper and, of course, saved it. This led me to do more research on guns on the Internet. As previously stated, the fantasy part, such as Mel’s ability to read souls, comes squarely from my mind.

Do you have another profession besides writing?

I spent many years as a teacher and school counselor. My romantic suspense, The Rock and Roll Queen of Bedlam, draws from my experiences working with behavior disordered kids (in a humorous way.)

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

As long as I could come back to the present time, I would love to go back to the 12th century England during the reign of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The first book I wrote was a medieval romance titled The Curse of the Rose and took place in 1172. I have a notebook filled with medieval trivia. The reason I want to come back is because life expectancy was short and many women died in childbirth.

What is your next project?

I’m currently working on Book Three, the last book in the Soul Seeker series. The title is Hope and Honor and it features a pair of five-year-old twins who capture Mel’s heart. As mentioned before, Mel gets involved with a paramilitary group and, much against her natural inclinations, takes shooting lessons. In addition, she chooses the man she intends to spend the rest of her life with. I promise a happy ending for the series.

CARNAL OBSESSION:
HIS HEART'S PRISONER
Carnal Series
Reily Garrett
Releasing Jan 30, 2017

Life on the street molds emotional athletes.

Three years ago, her brother’s death marked the beginning of Kendra’s new life, an existence with no home, no family, and no friends. Time in the underground byways toughened her emotional shell with the loose association of like-minded street rats where survival meant compromise and constant vigilance.

Before he died, Billy had sent her a package in care of his teammate, Conner. For Kendra, re-entrance into polite society comes with a deadly price, as betrayal comes from both sides of the grave.

Conner Crofton owns the BDSM club Ambrosia. After failing to protect his teammate on their last covert mission, penance takes form as a promise to safeguard Billy’s little sister, a girl he’d unknowingly remanded to a world of darkness and uncertainty, deception and psychopathic stalkers.

The past will always haunt us. Each must earn forgiveness and trust as passion, guilt, deception, and betrayal, interweave a destiny formed long ago. A romantic suspense with a twist.

kids are in bed or after they’re in school and the house is quiet. This is the
time she kicks back with laptop, surrounded by her shepherds, to give her
imagination free rein.

Excerpt Tour: Call to Honor by Tawny Weber

Call to Honor: A SEAL Brotherhood Novel, #1
by Tawny Weber

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

“No man left behind” is inscribed in the DNA of every SEAL and Lieutenant Diego Torres is no exception. But with a team member killed—and the body missing— Diego’s honor is sorely tested. Now his career and reputation are on the line, and a traitor is hiding among them. Diego wants answers...and only one woman has them.

Single mom Harper Maclean has two priorities—raising her son Nathan and starting a new life. Her mysterious new neighbor may be impossibly charming, but Diego asks too many questions about her past—and about the father of her child. Questions she fears will reveal her burning attraction for Diego, and ultimately put them all in danger’s path.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPTS (Exclusive Excerpt):
“You’ll miss Nathan while he’s away at camp,” Diego said, pinpointing the emotions he saw in her eyes.
“I will, but I have a plan to keep it from overwhelming me,” she admitted, wetting her lips and looking at him like he was a big bar of creamy chocolate.
“Do you, now?” There he was, feeling nervous again.
“I do, indeed.” She leaned closer, so that her breast brushed against his shoulder. “It involves a great deal of wine, a lot of body contact and perhaps a few less pieces of clothing.”
“Is that a fact?”
“Indeed.” To prove her point, Harper trailed her fingers down the delicate mother-of-pearl buttons of her sweater, flipping them open as she went. Each one revealed a little more of the silken skin and satin fabric beneath.
“You’re good at this.” Too good, he realized when he shifted, trying to find a comfortable position to sit while not giving away just how well her flirting was working.
Of course, another couple inches of interest and hiding would be pointless.
“You really think so?” Her expression was so delighted, he had to smile back. “I wasn’t sure if I would be. I wonder what else I’ll be good at.”
Oh, baby. Images flashed through his mind of flesh, bare and slick with sweat, sliding together. Tongues, teeth and hands teasing, taking. Moans of pleasure, groans of satisfaction. Intense passion, hard need.
All it’d take was a single touch, one more hint that she was willing, and he’d sit up and beg.
God. The woman was killing him.
His orders were to use any means available were the terms of this operation.
So there was nothing to stop him from having sex with Harper. The question was whether it’d help or hurt the mission. Beyond distraction, the cost could be high. He tried to calculate it.
What did self-respect go for those days?
“Why weren’t you sure?” he asked, playing for time.
“Long story,” she said. She tiptoed her fingers along his thigh, each tap moving higher, getting closer to the rock-hard length pressing against his zipper.
Diego wrapped his fingers around hers, then, using their joined hands, gestured toward the wine.
“Pour a drink. Tell me all about it. I like a good story.”
It was a risk, he knew. Rejecting a horny woman could bring on hell’s fury with a vengeance. But Harper didn’t seem to have her ego tucked in her bra, so he figured it was worth the risk.
Still she hesitated. So he pushed.
“Let’s call it a bedtime story,” he suggested, coating his words with enough heat to stir them both a little closer to that sharp edge of no return. He figured it was worth the risk. If he got the intel, he was closer to getting the job done.
If she got him into bed, well…
There were worse ways to spend an evening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt Three:

Cliff smiled. "Morning, neighbor."

Stonewashed blue jeans hugged his hips and another tight T-shirt, this time jade green, stretched over his chiseled chest. The leash fell from my hand.

Casey flung his front paws onto Cliff's thighs. The man I'd kissed last night scratched my dog behind the ears. Casey, ebullient at the attention, licked Cliff's arm.

My fantasy Highlander's smile faltered. "Aren't you happy to see me?"

Happy? Seriously? I snagged Casey's collar and dragged him away from Cliff. "Are you stalking me?"

"Stalking?" He scratched his cheek. "I thought to follow you last night to make sure you were all right, but you took off so bloody fast. Might not believe it, but I am an honorable man."

A panicked laugh hiccupped out of me. "Honorable? Stalking is a crime, buddy."

My terrifying guard dog hopped up and down on his front feet, his tongue lolling.

"Erica." Cliff raised his hands, palms out. "I'm trying to be friendly."

"Go creep out some other random girl you hunted down online." I pushed Casey out of the doorway with my foot and pulled the door halfway closed. "Leave me alone, Cliff."

I slammed the door. Casey whined.

"Forget it." I wagged a finger at him. "Stalkers bad. Dog bite stalkers. Got it? No licking."

My Highlander's voice resounded through the door. "Who the bloody hell is Cliff?"

Interview with Anna Durand
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
Everywhere! Seriously, I never know where an idea will spring from or when it might happen. Sometimes I resolve to come up with a specific type of story idea, but usually they arise on their own. Anything might trigger a story seed -- watching the world around me, reading a book, watching a movie, listening to a song. In fact, the basic premise for Dangerous in a Kilt emerged out of one of my favorite songs, "Mr. Mysterious" by Vanessa Amorosi.

How did you do research for your book?
This might sound strange, but a lot of my inspiration for the book came from watching the UK television series Hamish MacBeth, about a quirky Scottish village in the Highlands. I also rely heavily on the Internet, though I always make sure I'm getting information from reliable sources (I am a librarian, after all). Online I found tons of cool places in and around Chicago to incorporate into the book, to make it more grounded in the real world.

Do you have another profession besides writing?
I run a cataloging services business, where I create cataloging-in-publication data for other people's books. You'll see CIP data on the copyright page of many books.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?
Oooh, hard one! It would be a tie between medieval Scotland and ancient Egypt. I've been rather obsessed with Egypt for most of my life and it would amazing to see the pyramids when they were brand new. I also have a long-time fascination with Scotland, and I love medieval times.

What is your next project?

As usual for me, I have several projects in various stages of completion. I've begun writing Wicked in a Kilt, the second book in the Hot Scots series. I'm finishing up the final edits on The Mortal Falls, my award-wining paranormal romance, and also putting the final polish on Fired Up, my next erotic romance and also an award winner. Fired Up is based on my short story Tempted by a Kiss.
