Virtual Book Tour for Change of Heart by Daniel Side

Suspense
Date Published: Release date: February 6, 2017

Patrick Corman, loner, ex muscle for a call girl service, struggles to stay alive and care for his institutionalized daughter. But now the danger isn’t coming from the streets. He needs a heart transplant. Shocked when, with only months to live, a mysterious benefactor offers him ‘the deal of a lifetime’, he sees it as a solution, even after reading the fine print.
When his former crime boss suspects that he is revealing information about her, and a young newspaper reporter sees him as her chance to get her own by-line, Patrick’s life and death struggle escalates. For her part, reporter Katherine Alderson keeps secret what she knows about his transplant, unaware that Patrick has his own secret, hidden in the fine print of the deal he agreed to.
Patrick’s new heart draws them together and into a conflict neither could have imagined when they discover someone has delved into their lives, using them as pawns in his own political game.  Fighting to stay alive, one shocking revelation follows another, exposing the best and worst in both of them.

Excerpt 1 – A Change of Heart – by Daniel Side
“Katherine, come here.”
When she approached, he looked up at her, his eyes haggard, all energy and purpose gone. He was shivering again.
“I gotta sleep. Been a long day.” His laugh was weak. He held the gun out to her. She took it. “You gotta help me get back to the bedroom. Help me get out of these wet clothes.” His eyes were closed and he shivered uncontrollably.
Katherine stepped to him and he slowly put an arm on her shoulders. She jumped, the cold from his arm shocking her. He leaned heavily upon her and, with great effort she helped him to the bedroom.  There, she turned him and lowered him to the edge of the bed. His arms hung loosely by his sides. She was suddenly startled by the thought that he might die. Climbing onto the bed, kneeling behind him, she tugged and pulled at the soggy jacket. Finally it came off, the weight of it shocking her. She looked at the loose green hospital shirt plastered to his body. It has to come off over his head. No way.
She climbed off the bed and saw that it was v-necked. Grabbing it, she pulled at the ribbing seam where it joined in a V in front of his neck. It didn’t tear, but she saw that she had loosened the threads. She tried again and was rewarded with a small tear. A third effort and it tore down the center. Katherine paused, startled by the scar down the middle of his chest, now dark blue from the cold. It matched the color of the tattoo on his chest and upper arm. He started to fall over and she grabbed him, again scared by the coldness of his skin. “Stay there, Patrick. Stay up.” She worked the clinging jersey off, guiding his backwards fall towards the head of the bed. Several red marks that were starting to form bruises covered his upper arms and stomach. The pants were loose and easier and she had them off quickly. Her eyes fell on the wet, almost see-through white underwear that clung to his genitals. Really, Alderson?
Katherine rolled him on his side and pulled the duvet cover from his side of the bed up onto him.  She knew that it wouldn’t be enough. Somehow she needed to apply some warmth to him. He needed to be in a hot shower, but there was no way she could get him there. “Shit!” Katherine unbuttoned her blouse and dropped it on the floor. Slipping out of her jeans, she climbed in behind him, pulling her side of the duvet up and onto her. She gasped, the cold of his body taking her breath away when she pressed herself to him. She curled up behind him, spooning as best she could.
She was dazed: from the violence, from the dead men in her apartment, from the naked man that she was curled up with in bed. What the hell do I really know about him? That he cared for his daughter. Is that enough that I should believe what he says? What about those men? Jesus! What the hell is happening?

Excerpt 2
Behind the mammoth desk, Denetta sat sipping coffee. She rose as Patrick approached. Her body, displayed in a tight but flattering emerald green dress, could have belonged to a thirty year old. She crossed the distance gracefully, her arms held wide for a hug. Patrick smiled at the still attractive woman who had taken him from the streets and raised him. He returned the gesture and stepped into her embrace. The hug was firm as she pressed her breasts into him and touched her face against his in an air kiss. She stepped back to study him.
“It’s good to see you, Patrick. It has been so many years.”
“Yes it has. You look good, Miranda, for an old madam.” Patrick took in the sun creased eyes and full mouth that could always smile with easy charm, but reminded himself that under the quick soft smile was a ruthless businesswoman.
“You always were a cocky smart ass,” said Denetta, grinning back. She looked at Medina. “Johnny, I want you to meet Patrick Corman. You might say Patrick was your prototype.”
Medina, standing to the side, shifted his stare from Denetta to Patrick and smiled coldly.
“Come, sit down, Patrick,” she said motioning him towards the two chairs in front of the fireplace. She led the way and sat, the short dress sliding up her shapely legs. “Johnny.”
Medina walked to the fireplace, flipped the switch and the fire came alive with a small puff.
“Bring us some fresh coffee, will you dear,” Denetta said it without looking at him, watching Patrick instead as he settled in the chair beside her.
After a moment’s pause, Medina turned and left.
“I have to be honest, Patrick, you’re not looking so good these days.”
“Always good to be honest. Been under the weather a little bit lately.”
“So I hear. This heart stuff is serious shit. You should do something about that.”
“I’m working on it, but you can’t buy everything. Not even you, Miranda.”
“So we found out, didn’t we? But enough of the past. What’s done is done. I’m more concerned about your little action yesterday. One of my employees was injured. Quite badly.”
“Didn’t know he was on your payroll.”
“Come on, Patrick. You still make your living on the street. I know you still have your ear to the ground. You hurt one of my employees, not to mention the loss of product.”
“Right. Anything to make a buck.”
“Don’t play choirboy with me. You’ve done your fair share of questionable things. I know, because you did them for me.”
“Yeah, well working with the ladies was one thing.”
“It was where I started, Patrick. The high end girls were lucrative, but the hassles drove me crazy. They all turn into prima donnas. There’s a lot more money in the drug trade.”
“Yeah, but I don’t do that. You know that. I moved on.”
Denetta laughed. “Sure you moved on. Driving taxi and selling hot stuff out of your trunk.” She shook her head. “Patrick, Patrick, how far we’ve fallen.”
Patrick rose abruptly. “Are we done here?”
“Patrick.” Her tone suggested she had been offended. “What about your coffee? Johnny makes the best coffee. Even better than you did. Sure you don’t want to try a cup?”
“I’ll pass.”
Denetta stood up and stepped close to Patrick as Medina entered the room with coffee on a tray.
He could smell her perfume. Still feel the sexuality emanate from her, as it had so many years ago.
“We go back a long way, Patrick, but you can’t be interfering.” Her eyes held his, the warmth gone from her voice.
Patrick wondered what he had seen in her those many years ago, but knew he had needed someone to take care of him at that young age. “I owe you lots, probably more than I know, but that doesn’t change what happened or the way things are now. If I bump into that guy, or anyone else pushing that shit, the next time I’ll break both his legs.”
“It’s my business, and I won’t allow anyone to interfere. Not even you. No matter what the reason.” She turned to Johnny. “Thank you, Johnny. Mr. Corman can’t stay. The two of us will have coffee instead.” She looked at Patrick. “Brian will drive you to wherever you want. Good-bye, Patrick.”

A Thousand Salt Kisses Later by Josie Demuth

Book Description for A Thousand Salt Kisses Later (Book #2):

The spellbinding sequel to A Thousand Salt Kisses.

Four years ago, Crystal White fell in love with Llyr, a prince of the magical mer colony living off the coast of Starfish Island. For one summer, he enchanted her with stories of jeweled palaces and underwater gardens, but then he left, returning beneath the waves with her heart in tow.

Now, graduated and with no job in sight, Crystal is forced to go back to the island she thought she had left in the past. By the sea again, she realizes she is far from over her first love, and when an opportunity arises to contact the merfolk, Crystal can’t resist.

Once more with the mer, Crystal is forced to come to terms with the fact that Llyr has moved on, and also with her own magical secret that has endangered her life, his throne, and every mer kingdom. Working against all odds, she has to try to save the people she has come to love and—if she can—rekindle the romance of her first summer on Starfish Island.

Book Description for A Thousand Salt Kisses (Book #1):

Seventeen-year-old Crystal White is the new girl on Starfish Island. Dragged to the remote community by her environmental activist father, she is eager to find fun that doesn’t involve touching fish guts or listening to local folklore.

During a midnight swim with some new friends, Crystal is pulled out to sea by the waves. Convinced she’s going to drown; Crystal is rescued by Llyr, a handsome stranger. As she searches for him in the following weeks, she finds there may be more truth to the Starfish legends than she thought.

Over a sizzling rollercoaster summer, Llyr introduces Crystal to magic she’d only ever dreamed of. But as Crystal comes to love Starfish Island, it begins to drive her family apart. A nearby power plant is devastating local marine life, and her parents are stuck in the middle. As the magic and mundane parts of Crystal’s life converge, she finds herself risking everything to save Llyr, her family and herself.

My Review:
I have read both A Thousand Salt kisses the first book in the series and now A Thousand Salt Kisses Later. I have to admit I did enjoy this book more then the first one. But I also have to say you do need book 1 to make total sense out of this book.

In the first book Crystal is 17 and moves to Starfish Island and the story begins. In this book Crystal now is 21 and comes back to Starfish Island for the first time since that summer 4 years ago. She has now graduated from college, has fallen in love and been heart broken, she has no job and decides she has not other choice but to come back. When she comes back she thinks she has outgrown her feelings for Llyr, but almost immediately on her arrival she finds out how wrong she is. Llyr has also buried his feelings and moved on and is now engaged to be married. Crystal also has her own magical secret which could make or break everything.

I really enjoyed the more mature Crystal then I did the teenager. I enjoyed exploring the Mer world more then was in the first book as well. I like the magical aspect of the book also. The story moves along at a good pace and is not overly descriptive. I will be looking for more books by Josie Demuth.

Interview with Josie Demuth
If you were stuck on a deserted island, which 3 books would you want with you?
Wuthering Heights, Bridget Jones’ Diary and The Little Mermaid.

Describe your series in one sentence.
A fast-paced ‘mermance’ about a young English girl and a hot mysterious man – who just so happens to spend an awful lot of time in the sea!
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
I would say I got my inspiration from primarily from the setting – the magical Westcountry, England, which is saturated in myths and legends, and also from other paranormal YA/NA romance like True Blood!
Why did you choose to write about mermaids?
They are awesome creatures, but I think they are under-explored in books, despite being so popular and so embedded in mythology all over the world. I had lots of ideas about the mer-world and wanted to give them a really interesting ancient, mythological background, but put them in a modern context.
If you could put yourself as a character in your book, who would you be?
I imagine it would be Crystal, as she has all the fin, I mean fun. She is sweet and sensitive, but very emotional and that doesn’t help as she goes through some extremely dramatic times.

There are many books out there about....What makes yours different?

I think the mer-lore is especially unique, and completely different from what we have read about before.  I also think the book is quite an accurate portrayal of how it really is being a young adult; the messy nights out, the emotions, the insecurities that may make you squirm, but that we actually all experience. Also, although Crystal can hold her own and survives all her highs and lows, she is not the typical ‘bad-ass’ heroine we see regularly today. I really enjoy that type of character, but see Crystal as quite real, and I know many of my young Wattpad readers can really relate to her and all the emotions she experiences.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go? Who would you meet?
I always love this question! So many places, but if I had to pick somewhere I’d go back to the Robin Hood days. I love that guy and when I was little I used to try to build a time machine with my Meccano, so I could go back in time and meet Maid Marion and Robin Hood.

Watch the Book Trailer: Here

Culter Fuller came back into my life on the day my mother died, as if losing my mother wasn’t bad enough.

We hated each other since childhood. Well, I hated him. He had a very different story.

When I moved to my dad’s house to finish my last semester of high school, we went from bitter enemies to. . . something else. He was suddenly everywhere, occupying my space, determined to pull me into his life, filling me with thoughts I knew were wrong.

I knew that soon we would cross a line that should never be crossed.

I knew crossing that line could have very serious consequences; because Culter Fuller wasn’t just any irresistible boy, Culter Fuller was my stepbrother.

But, I was always very bad at making the right choices.

EXCERPT:

“If I think you might disappear on me, I’ll just be thinking about that all night, and I don’t want to have to deal with that shit. Just not worth going for me,” Culter said.

Wow, he made me feel like I was his odious chore, that was nice. I found it ridiculous that he was giving me a hard time about going off with people.

“Just go do your thing, Culter, I’ll be fine.” I might have put a fair dose of insinuation into my words, but the whole conversation was bugging me. I stood, gathering my makeup from the floor as I did.

“What’s my thing?”

“Like I know,” I mumbled.

“Sounds like you think you know,” he said. He stood too, stepping a little closer.

“It doesn’t matter.” I threw my stuff onto my bed.

He stepped in even closer, way too close, and smirked down at me. “Come on, I want to know. What’s my thing, Cassie?”

I licked my lips, before saying, “Threesomes.”

His smirk only grew. “Is that your thing, too?”

“What do you think?” I rolled my eyes, but I felt embarrassed.

He looked like he was going to laugh at me. “I’m not going to Spencer’s party for a threesome.”

“I wasn’t saying that.” I felt my face flushing as I talked to him and I wanted to step away, but at the same time, I didn’t.

He reached up and wound a lock of my hair around his finger. “That was my first threesome, and it wasn’t really one. And it wasn’t my thing. Spooning later, though, that was my thing.”

I looked up into his blue gaze, wondering if he was saying what I thought he was saying. Or had he spooned those girls? I looked away, deciding that I didn’t want to know. Well, I wanted to know, but I shouldn’t know. I was all tangled up in my thoughts, thoughts I shouldn’t even be having in the first place.

Culter’s phone rang, puncturing the tension building between us, and I was very glad for it. Culter flirted as easily as he breathed, and I had to remember that. I had to constantly remind myself of that. I liked flirting, but this didn’t feel just like innocent flirting, this felt dangerous.

I stepped away, grabbing his phone off the floor and handing it to him. Looking at the screen, I said, “It’s Spencer.” Then I walked out and left him alone in my bedroom.

The Producer is part of the Trillionaire Boys’ Club series by Aubrey Parker. Each book tells the story of one of the Club’s powerful members … and you’re going to want to collect them all.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / iBooks

EXCERPT:

Alyssa’s lips purse to laugh, but I’m not kidding. I’ve never done anything precisely like this before, and that newness makes the errand feel dire and serious. I want her. I will have her. I’m not willing to wait, and if Alyssa doesn’t like the disorder caused by my early arrival? Well, she doesn’t need to be in charge of everything all the time, does she?

I walk closer, wondering at my own actions. Not caring. Only feeling the need that’s been burning within me all day while thinking about her.

I’m an edge-walker, but not usually this devious.

Today is different. Today I’m like a criminal, bent on achieving my need through any means necessary. So I called her assistant, Susanne, and told her I was from UPS and that there was an oversized package she needed to sign for. When the assistant left the office, I sneaked in behind her and locked her out. I’m sure she can call the superintendent or someone to let her back in, but that’ll take time. She could cut to the chase and call Alyssa, but her boss won’t be answering phones for a while.

She’ll be otherwise occupied.

Unable to speak.

“Cole …”

A sentence without a predicate. She doesn’t know what to say.

At least not anything more than my name.

“Let’s cut the shit,” I tell her.

Alyssa looks frozen in place. Ravishing. I got hard the moment I decided not to wait until four. Now I’m throbbing. I want her. I haven’t stopped thinking about her since that text.

I’ll try hard to prepare myself.

It turns me on, knowing she’s thinking about me. Alyssa comes off as such a straight-laced girl. A total pro. She wears her sensible girl suits with her sensible girl skirts that never rise immodestly high. Heels that are common but understatedly sexy, if you know where to look. She wears her hair like she’s going to court, but all I can think of is shaking it loose. Her features are always so hard, but if you pay attention it’s easy to see just how breathtakingly beautiful she is.

Once you know Alyssa for a while, you start thinking that she’s sexless. But one couched text, with its barely-there innuendo, was enough to shatter that impression. Yesterday morning could have caught her off guard. Our encounter on the bathroom floor might have been a one-time thing she’d instantly regret. But her text changed that. It made me see, through the thinnest of cracks in her frozen facade, that Alyssa isn’t a robot.

Now I know she’s truly a woman, with desires to match my own.

My cock strains against its confinement. I watch her chest rise and fall; her nipples push against her silky white blouse. She’s breathing long and slow through moist, gently parted lips. Her eyes stay on mine, hungry under her reservations.

“Let’s stop bullshitting each other and fuck like animals.”

“You need to leave.”

“You don’t want me to leave,” I say, shaking my head. “So tell me. Forget about what’s proper for once, and tell me what you really want.”

Her eyes flick toward the door. I’ve locked that one, too, same as the outer door her assistant is probably already finding closed.

“Say it, Alyssa.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say.”

“Say you’ve been thinking about me.”

Alyssa says nothing.

“Say you’ve been wet all day, waiting for four to come.”

She swallows. I step closer. I move around the desk. Alyssa looks for all the world like she’s about to startle and flee. But she doesn’t go. Instead she lets me walk up next to her, close enough to smell. She says nothing as my hands run up her sides, as I brush her hair away from her long neck. She tips her head sideways, just a little. I can’t see her eyes from behind, but I imagine them closing.

Say the truth,” I whisper into her ear.

“I want you.”
