book blurb

After a brutal war between Humans and Metas, an uneasy truce is declared in the Seldova solar system. After the treaty signing, the Complex is created on the lone planet, Lorn—a blended community of Humans and Metas, all sent to test the waters of a more peaceful existence between the two races. Living in a domed society can only mean one thing for the Humans and Metas. Chaos.

Reviled banshee Aqulla Dayshon sees death, feels the last moments of a victim’s life and senses the echoes they leave behind. They call for vengeance, and she is helpless to deny their cries, to deny her very nature.

Intra Jaylon Rowe is the law within the Complex. When a series of murders hit the community, he enlists Aqulla’s help. But solving the murders won’t be easy.

Boundaries will be pushed, and rules broken. And as lines are crossed and passion ignites, a banshee’s call will scream.

Death is here, and it wants them all.

“We’re here,” he said, pausing outside a nondescript door. “Are you ready?”

Aqulla could feel them already, the faint pull that the death had on her drawing her forward. “Ready.” Pushing the door, she walked into the chilled room and stopped at the first body bag.

“Do you need to see inside?”

“No,” she whispered. Gritting her teeth, she fought to unwind the echoes in her mind and grasp just one.

They all had the same “taste” to them, as if the killer had the same signature, as if just one person had left his mark on them. Yet if that were the case, then why had the scenes looked like murder-suicides? The suicides were hard to read, their pain and anguish overwhelming. The echoes were scrambled, swirling, twisting chaos she had no hope of deciphering. But she had to try. Slowly unzipping the bag, Aqulla didn’t take in the dead body already showing signs of decay. She saw nothing, felt nothing but the echo of the dead.

Lifting a trembling hand, Aqulla touched the victim’s forehead. The air knocked out of her lungs, and she wasn’t consciously aware of Jaylon holding her up. Furrowed lines of discomfort appeared on her forehead, teeth grinding together, but nothing made sense. It was as though the echo was fractured. No matter how hard she tried, Aqulla couldn’t get a clear read on the man’s death.

Breaking the contact, Aqulla turned her head into Jaylon’s chest, slumping against him. “Get me out of here,” she whispered.

***

Jaylon half carried her from the room, her slight body trembling, her breaths shallow and weak. The further he took her away from the bodies, the stronger she became. By the time they reached the public areas of the complex, she had managed to hold herself up enough to not draw attention.

A relieved breath rushed out of her as he opened the door to her quarters, yet still, she couldn’t stand without support. He wanted to tell her she shouldn’t have gone. He wanted to shout at her for hurting herself for strangers, but he held his tongue, well aware the irrational emotions inside of him would not help her.

The door clicked shut behind them, closing Jaylon into a room that smelt of her, leaving him alone with a woman who did things to him that would get them both into trouble. He stared at her drawings on the wall, her reminders of the brightness in a world of death. Yet when she looked up at him, he knew it wasn’t enough. They may have left the bodies behind, they may be miles away from the echo’s call, but they haunted her still. There was no spark in her eyes, the color dull, lifeless. She was a shadow of the woman who’d drawn his eye in a line of hundreds. Her rebellious spark gone, the light of the living shrouded by darkness.

Her voice was a bare whisper, a desperate plea. “Make it stop…. Please, make it stop.”

book blurb

It’s been five years since I’ve seen her.

Five years since Gabriella James damn near destroyed me with her betrayal, sending me to hell in a cage.

I’ve crawled free, escaped the mob, opened a night club, and continue to battle my demons through underground fighting and sex. But now Gabriella’s back, begging for absolution, wanting my forgiveness. All I want is what she’s denied me for all these years — her body.

Sex. That’s all we’ll ever have.

Because Gabriella is still keeping secrets. I see it in her eyes.

I don’t trust her, and I’ll never forgive her betrayal.

But that won’t stop me from taking her.

Over...and over...and over...

excerpt

“Leave the clothes,” he reiterated.

She shook her head, her grasp on her jeans tightening. “Humiliation wasn’t part of this bargain. I’m not walking out of here without any pants on.” A shadow crossed his face even as his lips firmed into a straight line.

“Humiliate you? You think I want to give every motherfucker out there material to go home and fuck their fist to? Let them look at those thighs and imagine them wrapped around their waist? Their head? No, Gabriella, my intention isn’t to humiliate you,” he murmured, the silken tone all the more dangerous.

“My sole focus is hustling your pretty little ass next door and upstairs as fast as possible. Whatever you think about me, I’d never place you in harm’s way, and that includes exposing you. Now,” he lowered his face until she could easily detect the green flecks in his golden eyes. Something flickered in those eyes. The same thing that, for just a moment, softened his mouth so he appeared almost...vulnerable. Hungry. No, no. Need. Like he needed her to walk out of this room with him. But in the next instant, the emotion disappeared behind a shuttered mask.

“Are you in...or out?”

She didn’t answer. Instead, she dropped the clothes and walked to the door, that brief flash of...whatever accomplishing what the pretty little ass and the possessive tone he’d uttered it in couldn’t.

Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— creating stories of unique men and women who experience the first bites of desire, the dizzying heights of passion, and the tender, healing heat of love.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

EXCERPT:

“How do you wanna settle up?” I tied off the condom and slipped it into my pocket as I pulled my pants up. Rule number one—never leave behind any evidence.

Naked except for her heels, she got off the bed and sauntered to her purse. “How much?”

“Four grand.” I smiled like I was checking her out.

“Four?”

I took two strides and tipped her chin. “Two rounds and oral. You want a third? I just got hard watching that ass of yours.” I could fit in another quickie before my next appointment.

She smiled coyly. “Maybe next time.”

I held back my laugh, just barely. I was hung as hell. If she wasn’t sore from all that pounding, my name wasn’t Alex Vega. “You know where to find me.” I dropped her chin. “Cash or credit?”

She handed me her card and I swiped it through the small credit card reader attached to my cell phone. “Need me to text you a receipt?”

She smiled. “Receipt?”

“Deep tissue massage.” I was legit as fuck. I’d even gotten the damn massage therapist license. “Medical expense. You can deduct it on your taxes.” I winked. “You’re welcome.”

She shook her head but she looked amused. The card went through and I got dressed ASAP. Rule number two—never stick around—unless they pay you.

“So….” She twirled her hair like she was twelve. “What are you doing Saturday night? I’m looking for a date to this fundraiser that’s for—”

I was already shaking my head. “Sorry, babe. I don’t do show and tell. Strictly bedroom scenes. But text me after if you’re bored.” I shot her my money smile and buckled my Ferragamo belt then threw on the jacket of my custom-tailored suit. Stepping into my loafers sans socks, I was out. “Later, gorgeous.” Three steps backward, a wink for good measure and I turned.

On the elevator ride to the lobby, I checked my messages, scheduled three more clients and pulled up my E-Trade account balance. Nothing got me hard like seven digits in a row.

Author Bio:

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
