Author Bio

Piken Sander lives among sprawling oak and aspen in Northern California to where she escaped from colder climes many years hence. Her randy Auntie asked her to ‘tell her a story’, demanding that there be strong women and steamy passion, and this began the writings of Piken as she crafted stories of girl meets boy, girl and boy go through the torture of life and beyond, with at the very least hopeful endings. When her Auntie passed, she left her niece a one sentence note in her will: “Now publish the damn things.” Piken’s day consists of writing and social media, and such difficult decisions as which of her dizzying array of wildly colorful pajamas she should wear on a given day. She loves a perfectly steeped cup of good tea. She has few she calls friends, but those in this cadre are cherished and fostered. A political liberal since preteens, she tolerates no racism or bigotry or inequality of any kind, especially in her stories. Social Media:

Synopsis

When high-powered executive Roxanne Howard dies in a pool of blood outside the Moonshine Inn, Richmond, Virginia’s premiere redneck bar, the victim’s sister enlists Hazel Rose to ferret out the killer. At first Hazel balks—she’s a romance writer, not a detective. But Brad Jones, Rox’s husband, is the prime suspect. He’s also Hazel’s cousin, and Hazel believes in doing anything to help family. Never mind that Brad won’t give her the time of day—he’s still family.
Hazel recruits her book group members to help with the investigation. It’s not long before they discover any number of people who feel that a world without Rox Howard is just fine with them: Brad’s son believes that Rox and Brad were behind his mother’s death; Rox’s former young lover holds Rox responsible for a tragedy in his family; and one of Rox’s employees filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against her. The killer could be an angry regular from the Moonshine Inn—or just about anyone who ever crossed paths with the willful and manipulative Rox. When a second murder ups the ante Hazel must find out who is behind the killings. And fast. Or she may be victim #3.

Excerpt
  IF ONLY I could learn to say no, I wouldn’t be perched on a barstool in a redneck bar, breathing secondhand smoke and pretending to flirt with men sporting baseball caps and Confederate bandanas, their eyes riveted on my Victoria’s Secret-enhanced cleavage. I wouldn’t be tricked out in a bizarre hairstyle, frosted blue eye shadow, painted-on jeans with strategically placed slashes, and a two-sizes-too-small Harley Davidson tank top.

I hit the rewind button on my life and stopped a few days earlier, at the point where Phyllis Ross threw a cup of coffee in Nina Brown’s face. How that led to this undercover assignment—finding out who killed a middle-aged drunken woman in the parking lot of the Moonshine Inn—is quite a tale.

Blurb Blitz: Heir of Locksley by N.B. Dixon

Heir of Locksley
by N.B. Dixon

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: GLBT Historical Fiction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Robin of Locksley is a rebel, more comfortable roaming Sherwood Forest with his longbow and courting the village girls than learning how to run a manor.

An innocent flirtation with a peasant girl soon lands Robin in trouble, and worse, he finds himself inexplicably attracted to Will Scathelock, his best friend since childhood. Robin must decide whether to follow the rules of society or his own conscience.

Meanwhile, his neighbour, Guy of Gisborne, is anxious to get his hands on the Locksley estate and he will do anything to make it happen—even murder.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
“It’s not that bad—” Will began, but Robin held up a silencing finger. Without a word, Will subsided onto a stool. Robin went to fetch a clean rag and dipped it in a bucket of water pulled fresh from the well. Crouching at Will’s side, he reached up and touched the cold compress to Will’s face.
“Damn, that hurts!”
“Hold still.”
The cut was a nasty one. As gently as he could, Robin stroked the rag down Will’s cheek, wiping away the trickling blood. His skin was warm and slightly rough with stubble. Robin’s heart gave an unsteady lurch. He cleared his throat, which had gone suddenly dry, and searched for something to say. “I met Sir Richard on the way home. It seems my father was worried and asked him to find me.”
Will swore, though that might have been due to Robin’s ministrations.
“It’s all right. He said he would keep silent. I trust him. The next time my father asks where I am, don’t lie on my account.”
“I could tell him you’re off drinking at the Blue Boar,” Will suggested. “He’d like that a good deal better than the truth, I reckon.”
“Let me deal with him. You don’t need any more injuries.”
Will’s face softened. He leaned a little into Robin’s hand. Their eyes met and held. They stayed like that for a few seconds, neither moving, neither looking away. Robin had never noticed before how long Will’s eyelashes were. They were a shade darker than his hair, as were his eyebrows. His lips curved in a slight smile, and Robin’s heart did that odd, painful lurch again.
“You know I’ll help if I can,” Will said. “What’s a couple of rotten vegetables between friends?”
Robin tore his gaze away with an effort. The strength of his reaction surprised and unsettled him. Abruptly, he got to his feet, tossing the bloody rag aside.
“You should let Martha look at that. It may scar, but she is sure to have a salve that will help.”
BLURBS:
Not Quite a Scot
In USA Today bestselling author Janice Maynard’s sweet and sexy series, three childhood friends with a shared passion for the Outlander novels and TV show decide to travel to Scotland looking for adventure—and their very own Highland heroes…
McKenzie Taylor is high maintenance when it comes to fashion, but when it comes to travel, the socialite prefers privacy to parties, and her own space to hotels. After she and her friends arrive in Scotland and split up to pursue their own adventures, she rents a small cottage on the Isle of Skye. On day two, she crashes her rental car. But a hero emerges from the mist to rescue her. He’s handsome, earthy, funny, and before long is making her feel desirable, not mention desirous. There’s just one problem: McKenzie’s Highland dreamboat is a motorcycle riding American.
Finley Craig knows his cute new tourist friend is stubbornly set on falling for a Scotsman. But he’s just as set on her falling for him. So he plans to give her a taste of what she thinks she wants. Because Finley suspects McKenzie isn’t as shallow as she appears. And in the process of surrounding her with his hand-picked suitors, she may just decide that American-made is best—especially when she and Finley are rained in together over one long, delicious, and very adventurous weekend…
Perfect Paige
When three sisters arrive in Spinning Hills, Ohio, home of the third most haunted street in the state, they’re looking for solace and support as they clear out the ghosts of their own pasts. But what they find is something a whole lot sweeter . . .
Paige Galloway has built her life around one principle—being the perfect mom. When the FBI busts into the PTA meeting Paige is about to host in order to arrest her husband, she’s mortified. Fleeing to Spinning Hills, her grandmother’s hometown, Paige is determined reclaim her title as the mom with the most. That becomes much harder when her husband files for divorce . . . and she learns he’s a lying cheater. Being the perfect mom now means she has to save her ex-husband from himself. But when the agent in charge of the investigation—the man who witnessed her total humiliation—moves in next door, Paige is surprised to find herself drawn to the Fed with the suspicious frown and surprisingly sexy smile . . .
After Alex Hooke’s tough-as-nails childhood, Paige’s way of life seems shallow—at least until he gets to know her. Paige is as stubborn and smart as he is, and while his job is to find evidence against her ex-husband, he’s more tempted to investigate the attraction simmering between them. With help from Paige’s nosy family, and his own curious relatives, Alex may still get his man—but what he really wants is the woman who introduced him to love.
Excerpt One:
Not Quite a Scot
The man was only stating the obvious. He could have said it with a bit more sympathy. The taciturn, grumpy biker hadn’t even bothered to ask my name. Perhaps he thought there was no need, since he wouldn’t be hanging around.
“Forgive me for asking,” I said, my tone syrupy sweet. “Do you have a suggestion for what I might do? I’m tired and hungry and disappointed and all out of answers.” I hadn’t meant to be quite so honest. The words tumbled out uncensored.
Perhaps my unwitting vulnerability tapped into some latent chivalry on Finley’s part. For the first time, his posture relaxed. “I do. My house is large. It’s near the harbor, so you can walk most places. I’m listed in the B&B registry, though to be honest, I haven’t said yes to any guests for a long time. Playing host is a lot of trouble. Still, ye’re welcome to stay with
me until you can make arrangements to have this place cleaned.”
“Stay with you?” I parroted the words, my heart beating rapidly. Finley might not be the Loch Ness monster, but he was definitely an unknown quantity.
When I hesitated, he rubbed two fingers in the center of his forehead as if he had a headache. “I’m an upstanding citizen, more or less. As soon as we get back to town, you can look up the website. If you want to call the bloke who owns the seafood place down by the wharf, he’ll vouch for me.”
“I was there this evening. I have the phone number on the receipt, but I haven’t been able to get a decent cell phone signal.”
Finley shrugged. “You’ve found it,” he said. His quick grin startled me.
“Found what?”
“The proverbial rock and the hard place.”
He was a hundred percent correct. No woman in her right mind would try to spend a night alone in this grimy, unprepossessing dwelling. But most women also wouldn’t agree to stay with a man they’d just met. With no cell service, my only choices were to walk back to town or take a chance on Finley Craig.
