Excerpt: Copyright © 2016 by Nashoda Rose

“Maitagarri, what was that?” I chuckled, shaking my head. She’d tried to distract me by brushing her hand over my cock just before she crouched and swept her leg out to land me on my ass.

She ended up flat on her back with me straddling her pelvis, her wrists locked above her head.

“It’s not fair. I’ve never won a fight. So, I’m using what I have available to me.”

Delara’s skin glistened with sweat and her chest rose and fell rapidly as she panted. We practiced every morning whenever I stayed with her at the Talde house which, unfortunately, wasn’t as often as I liked. But Delara knew right from the beginning what our relationship would be like. Especially after spending a year apart.

“You want to win, baby then you need to be better.” I smirked. “There’s no point in me letting you win.”

She moaned, closing her eyes. “There is. I’d be happier.”

I tightened my hold on her wrists and leaned over her. “You’re not happy, maitagarri?”

Her eyes opened and she ran her tongue over her lower lip. Fuck, the little wench. My cock jerked and strained against my pants. I never thought a woman could weave her way into my heart, and Delara hadn’t, she’d slammed into it and made herself at home.

She was my home.

I moved around so often, I’d never had a place I called home until her. But it wasn’t a place, it was wherever she was. We were tied together and whenever I left the rope tightened making it difficult to breathe without her.

And when I returned to her there was an undeniable elation. A freedom that I’d never experienced before.

“I’d be happier if you kissed me right now—and even more so if you didn’t have to leave in the morning.” She struggled against my hold on her wrists. “Let me go. I want to touch you.”

“Break my hold and I will give you what you want.”

A snort emerged from her throat and I grinned. She was stubborn as hell and I loved that about her. She never stopped trying to defeat me no matter how many times I put her on her ass. I suspected one day she’d be one of the best Scar warriors we had.

I intended on her being one. Because no matter how much I wanted to protect her, the reality was she had to protect herself and she was fierce and determined enough to do that. She was one of the youngest Scars to ever join a Talde as many trained for years prior to being accepted into one.

Her lips parted and her eyes smoldered with desire as she wiggled her hips, grinding my cock into her. I’d already fucked her several times today, but she was irresistible and I could fuck her a million times and never be done with her.

“Waleron. I need you inside me again,” she whispered.

The way her tongue rolled over my name was the most erotic sound. I’d grown up with a bitch mother who was one of the first Scars, and was accustomed to my name sounding harsh and cruel as she berated me for everything I did. Nothing was good enough for her and she constantly reminded me of why I was on this Earth and how everything could be taken away if I ever swayed from my purpose.

Delara was unexpected. It took that year apart before I was able to convince myself that no matter my purpose here, she was now a part of that.

I ran my hands down her forearms, while using my weight to keep her immobile. Then I lowered and kissed her neck, teeth nibbling then tongue sliding over the silky surface. Her pulse throbbed as I took my time tasting her, enjoying the slight hitches in her breath and her struggle to touch me.

And I wanted her to touch me, but not yet. “Stay still, maitagarri,” I growled against her neck so my voice vibrated on her skin.

She relaxed for a second and then flung her right thigh into my hip to dislodge me. I’d been expecting her to make a move. She never gave up easily.

“You have to do better than that,” I drawled.

She pursed her lips. “I hate you.”

“You win a fight without emotions, maitagarri.”

“How am I supposed to do that with you on top of me?”

“I never said it was easy.” I grasped her nipple with my teeth through her shirt and tugged. She renewed her fight, yanking on her arms and wiggling her body like a snake. But there was no chance she’d escape my hold.

I clasped her wrists in one hand then slid my fingertips down between her breasts to her abdomen then slowly lifted her shift so it was bunched up around her waist. “You’re thinking about what I’m doing to your body instead of how to win.”

The tension left her body and she looked up at me. “Waleron?”

“Mmm,” I murmured while I slid my hand under the lace of her panties. She was so damn wet and I nearly ripped off the scrap of material and sank my throbbing cock inside her.

But I thrived off my control.

And so did she.

“Don’t ever leave me. I won’t survive that.”

My hand on her sex stilled. I released her wrists, but she kept her arms above her head while I ran my thumb over her plush lower lip. “You’ll survive whatever you need to, Delara. Any way you can. But know that leaving you will never be my choice.”

Review of The Reader by M.K. Harkins

When I first ready the blurb about this book I was intrigued. I love paranormal. This read more like a sci-fi story to me though. I do not usually get into sci-fi and probably would not of read it if it had of been under sci-fi either. I am glad I did read it though. It was a very interesting story and I actually read it in 2 sittings. My husband was watching TV and I was reading.

The story was actually very interesting to me. I really enjoyed learning about the Readers, their history ,their lives, and learning it along with Ann I think made it that much more interesting to me.
Devin and Archer show up and whisk her off just in time. They take her back to their home in a Mountain, no not on a mountain but literally in one. There she learns about her abilities.

This really is a fast moving story, almost to fast at some points and the ending is not perfect. The ending seems a bit rushed to me. But I did enjoy the story.

I was given a copy of this book from Bound Book Tours.

EXCERPT:

I lay curled in a ball on the side of the pool as I woke from an apparent slumber. After taking some deep breaths and pushing my hair away from my face, I stood, cringing when my right calf cramped along with my stiff neck and arms. Limping over to a chair, I sat, doubled over, wishing the pain to stop. The clock on the wall pointed to the number six. Three hours had passed?

The urge to use the privy became very important. I prowled the large room, searching for such a place. But I couldn’t locate one and limped back up the stairs to the bedroom, hoping to find one there.

I found an empty room in a corner next to the crate full of beautiful clothes. Inside, a porcelain bucket lay in the corner. After I finished, I then sat on the bed. More questions ran through my head.

Who would empty the bowl of waste and why was the table set with all that food? Where did all these things come from?

I laid my head on my knees while despair and anguish coursed through my entire body. Tears fell from my eyes and landed on my lips and chin.

If only Nathan Alexander was here to hold me and tell me everything would be all right.

But he wasn’t here, and it was my fault. Why didn’t I let him come with me to close my house?

My eyes closed as I remember our kisses near the lake and how wonderful it felt to be in his arms, where his whispered words of love and promises made me feel safe and protected….

The wind let out a muffled howl, and the slight dank smell rising from the stone floor met my nose. Goose bumps rose on my arms as I stood and paced the room. The place near the bed where I had been sick had dried, but it still smelled awful. Considering my current mood, it would remain a soiled stain.

Stomping down the stairs, I crumpled in a chair. Loneliness and fright crept up until I wanted to hide in a corner and rock and cry. My nose dripped, and tears trickled down my cheeks. Then something very strange happened. The owl clock let out a ding, and the howling wind stopped.

From one of the other tunnels leading to the unknown, a green haze poured out and made its way down the cavern stairs. Panicked, I jumped out of the chair and rushed back up the stairs to the bedroom. This stream of murk followed behind as I dashed to the crate to hide behind it.

The mist slinked across the room and stopped in the center, drifting back and forth, not coming any closer to where I stood. It had transformed into a strange, whirling circle. But it didn’t flood the entire room, remaining in that shaky sphere that turned toward the unmade bed and then back to me.

Trembling, I held back a whimper when the mist floated over the bed and toward me. Backing up toward the crate, I closed my eyes and prayed as a cold burst of air met my skin.

A voice spoke in my head.

“Why do you hide?”

My eyes opened, and I hit the wall. The mist floated right near my face as if to study me. The voice spoke again. This time it sounded deeper and hushed.

“Do not be afraid. Why are you frightened?”

It finally dawned on me—the strange and hollow-sounding voice came from the mist itself.

“I-I….”

The mist turned away and hovered near the corner where the privy bowl sat. While its attention was diverted, I ran out and down the stairs to hide in one of the dark caverns. Nearing the two stone dog statues, the mist blocked my path. With a startled yelp, I backed away toward the long table. It followed, and I darted around until the table separated us. Again, it molded itself into a ghostlier form and watched me.

One of its phantom limbs reached out and picked up the pitcher from the table. It floated in the air as the mist poured red liquid in a clear wine glass. It then grabbed a few slices of bread and fruit and placed them on a plate. I watched, captivated, uncertain what it would do next. There was no other place to run except back up the stairs or through the waterfall.

“Sit,” it said in a gentle whisper in my mind.

I shook my head.

It stared at me with those nonexistent eyes and pulled out a chair, letting the wood scrape on the rock floor.

“Sit here.” Its deadly tone frightened me, and I backed away.

The mist rocked back and forth for several seconds.

“You will sit. If not….” The unspoken words tore through me as the mist glided over. Repulsed by the thought of it touching any part of my body, I scurried to a chair and sat down.

It backed away, but not before it drifted next to my head and lifted a piece of my tangled hair. I clenched my fists in my lap and waited for it to release it. A moan echoed in my head, and my hair fell down my back. It then pulled out a chair and floated over it.

The cramp in my leg came back, and I winced, trying to rub the ache away. But I feared making any quick movements.

“Are you in pain?” it asked in a concerned voice.

I stared ahead, refusing to respond.

It waited a few beats for an answer and let out a sigh when I didn’t. The mist settled in the chair, which should have been funny, but, under the present circumstances, I found no humor in it. It pushed the plate full of food toward me, including the glass. “Eat.”

I viewed the plate and then back at the mist.

“Um. I….” I had no idea what to say.

The mist wavered, unable to stay still. Even though it didn’t have eyes, it stared at me. I shifted in my seat, clasping my hands tightly on my lap.

It exhaled, picking up a piece of dark-brown bread and holding it up in the air. It moved the bread in a circle.

“You will eat, or I will make you,” it said in a blunt, do-not-even-think-of-disobeying-me type of voice.

I had run out of options. Instead of taking the piece of bread it offered, I picked up a few grapes, some cubes of cheese, and chewed small morsels slowly, blinking away tears.

The mist remained silent. My mouth trembled as I continued chewing. After I swallowed, my confidence grew, but before I could say a word, it moved behind my chair and off to the side. A squeal left my mouth when music filled the room. I dropped whatever was in my hands and placed them over my mouth and closed my eyes, sitting motionless until my heartbeat returned to normal.

Its presence hovered near. Hearing the clatter of a dish, I opened my eyes to see my plate gone. My untouched glass remained.

“Drink.”

Sick of being ordered around, I slapped the arm of the chair.

“Eat, drink. What does it matter to you, or whatever you are, whether I eat or drink? What right do you have to bring me here? I want to go home!” I fumed, not caring if the mist became enraged.

“Can’t,” it said in a harsh whisper.

“Why?” I longed to pour my glass full of liquid over this wretched thing causing me such anguish.

The mist turned toward me. “Because I love you.”

EXCERPT:

Lucci

He is awaiting me in the entryway, somehow appearing to be comfortable in the antique ladder-back chair. This is indeed a horrid surprise.

“You were outside, Lucas.” Father must certainly have spies hidden throughout the property, watching me constantly and revealing my every movement. “You left the house without my permission.”

“You were asleep, Father. I did not wish to disturb you to ask for permission to explore the maze.” I push all of my breath into my voice in an effort to sound like my heart is light and free of guilt. From the way he scowls, I believe my effort has failed.

“There is no room for excuses, son. You broke a rule by leaving the building without my consent. There will be a consequence.” He smiles as if in an attempt to comfort me, and I can see long straight teeth hidden in his bushy beard. “We will take care of your punishment tonight. After we dine.”

I don’t try to fight the shiver of dread. I allow it to swallow my body and raise tiny bumps on my skin. “Of course, Father.”

The man stands. Every time he rises to his full height I am newly impressed by how large he is. And how small I feel. But I do not meet his eyes, as I do not want to break another rule. “Very well, Lucas. I must attend to some imperative business in the conference room. I suggest you proceed to your suite and busy yourself with music. It is far more constructive than playing like a child in the outdoors.”

“Shall I practice my flute, sir?”

“No. I would prefer that you spend the afternoon vocalizing. I will come upstairs to listen to your progress on ‘February Song’ in due time.” He clears his throat in a manner I find repulsive, but I do not flinch as I once did. “I will not knock before entering.”

I know precisely what his words suggest: when Father bursts into my room, it will be in my best interest if I am singing. Not daydreaming. Or doodling. Or longing for days gone by. I must be actively singing. “Yes, sir. May I be excused?”

“There is one more small issue, Lucas. I do not care to see your feet bare, especially not soiled like a child stricken with rural poverty, until I remove your shoes myself as I prepare you for bed.”

He then nods and gestures with his hand—I have been dismissed.

EXCERPT:
Bravo was there. He heard Danny scream, tasted the sharp jolt of terror heavy in the air. He came straight for him, sailing like a dark bullet through the night. The coyote did not see him coming. Bravo hit him like an arrow, rage pulsing through his body.
How dare this wolf-thing harm Danny! The fury was a tangible thing, flooding through his veins like a wildfire. He bit the coyote below the mouth, in the soft flesh of the neck, where the lifeblood was.
Take away lifeblood, take away life. That was the law of the fight. Bravo had learned that in the Arena, but it was an unspoken and silently understood fact of instinct. Blood contained life…remove blood, and the enemy would fall.
The coyote yelped and released its hold on Danny. The little boy stumbled backward, crying, while Bravo drug the dog-thing to the ground, holding it there, second by second, as the life drained from it and the hot, salty blood spilled onto his face and stained his fur.
Bravo felt nothing but the storming satisfaction of the bite and the devotion to the kill – the mission. This was his job, to protect Danny at all costs, because Nathan was not here, and because that is what Bravo was: a protector.

Dogs, Dogs, Dogs
By Summer Lane

A lot of people look at me funny when I tell them that I wrote a book about a dog. They tilt their head and say, “About a dog? Like, what kind of a dog? How can you write a book from the point of view of an animal?”
It’s all about understanding the way dogs think and function. They are creatures of loyalty and physicality. Above all, they are creatures of instinct. I wrote about dogs because I love animals, and because ever since I was a little girl, working dogs have fascinated me.
I’m also a bit of a nature nut, in that I love the outdoors – particularly the forest – and I love learning about the wildlife around the world. When I was a kid, my obsession started with Ranger Rick magazines, and then graduated to National Geographic nature documentaries, the Crocodile Hunter and of course, Homeward Bound and the animated film Balto. The natural world and the natural order of things is an inexhaustible subject for me. I love the removal of modern technology and human encroachment. I like to see what the world is like without cell phones and cars and snapchat filters.
That was one of the big driving factors of my “dog book.” I wanted to tell a story about a character who was unaffected by technology or petty problems; a character who dealt with things in an almost primordial way, pure instinct.
That was Bravo. Bravo was driven by instinct, love and loyalty. Pretty simple. His character motivation was clear and honest. So all that was left was to give him a problem that he must overcome: separation from his handler, and the struggle to survive in a world gone wild.
I have always considered Jack London to be a major source of inspiration when it comes to paving the way for people to write “nature” books or books about animals. His literary creations that are White Fang and The Call of the Wild are pure brilliance. He was so far ahead of his time, so insightful and deep. I cannot recommend his work enough – all of it!
The key to writing about a dog is to keep him true and honest, to realize that, as Jack London would say, the “call of the wild” is still within him or her. To remember that a dog is driven by physical desire and emotional fulfillment as much as we are, and that they oftentimes need exactly the same things that we do. I have found that over the course of the last two years, writing about dogs has made me realize that they are really not very different than we are. Dogs are very human, and the more time you spend studying them, the more you realize that they are, in many ways, far superior than we are, for theirs is the ancient wisdom of instinct and the wilderness.

Publication date: October 22nd 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance

LIAM O’SHEA, bestseller author of the SciFi saga, Eiloe.

All I knew was pain – a childhood filled with cruelty and villains who used and abused.

Until Éolie.

I first heard her sweet, angelical voice in the dark of night, when I lay bathed in my own impending death. Seventeen years later, it’s not the nightmare she pulled me out of that haunts me, but the glimpse of Happily Ever After she revealed just before disappearing.

They said she was a figment of my boundless imagination. A wish. A dream. Until I had no choice but to believe them, cherishing my imaginary savior the only way I knew how – in fiction and lore.

But fantasy has a way of transforming reality. When I finally tire of being a citizen of the world, I take an impromptu sabbatical as a professor at a small college on the coast of Maine. And there I see her, the girl with the sea-green eyes and angelic voice.

My world turns upside down. Turns out my girl is for real, and the pull between us is anything but imaginary.

Happily Ever After has a story … and this one is mine.

The overall theme of the Incandescent Series is romantic with a touch of magic and whimsy.

Bonjour !

As you know by now (spoiler alert if you haven’t read my full bio : http://www.sylvieparizeau.com/about-sylvie/), I am epilogue obsessive compulsive.

And as Éolie once said to Liam in one of their deleted scenes:

_“Liam, it’s a compulsion. I swear; I start to read fully intending not to skip ahead, but I can’t help it. I need to know how it ends before I can enjoy how the characters get there. I cannot bear anything less than a happy ending. Everyone deserves a happily ever after.”_

Guilty as charged. I am one of those who read the end … right after Chapter One. So by now, you’re either, gasping, cringing, totally scandalized, or smiling in complete accord, depending on which side of that story you stand, non?

But in any case, this obsession of mine is what started my story-telling journey. I can’t tell you how many times I concocted additional scenes in my head every time I got lost in a romance book. What do you mean The End? Noooo. It’s the beginning! Give me the happy!!

And as such, Liam and Éolie’s story, INCANDESCENTLY, book One in the Incandescent Series, holds a very special place in my heart, and I hope it will in yours too come October 22, 2016.

Meanwhile, in heartfelt appreciation for being such an awesome and all-around wonderful blogger, your tribe is among the first ones to enter a chance for a signed paperback copy as well as a signed copy of the map. A journey into the incandescent world of the Forest of Laure where all of my characters find their Happily Ever After, love, cherish, and grow, one story at a time.

So? In the mood to read something romantic with a touch of magic and whimsy? Go ahead. Let yourself loose.

Sylvie lives her own Happily Ever After in the beautiful mountains of Les Laurentides in Northern Quebec, alongside her whole set of characters.

In between treks in their backyard wilderness, you can find them hanging out at www.sylvieparizeau.com
