Madison Knight should have ignored the call. Now she is spending Christmas Eve dealing with her least favorite thing…blood and lots of it.

When a female victim is found in her home, it has Madison and her partner tapping into the vic's personal life.  With a rash of former business partners and lovers, all of whom wanted her dead, there are not enough hours to question them all.

But trying to find the person who had the most motive isn't all that's on Madison's mind.  As she struggles to establish balance in her own life, she knows she has to get her focus back.  Justice requires it.

Excerpt Two:

Prologue

He had to do it. He had no choice. Pushed into an unpleasant corner, he had no other option. How could he allow himself to be walked all over, manipulated? All that he had sacrificed for her, laid on the line.

It was pitch black, the wind moaned and small flakes dared to precipitate. It was a bitter cold, the type he felt through to his bones.

He knocked on the door.

He had chosen the back side of the house for added seclusion. If the cover of the night wasn’t enough, surely this approach would diminish the possibility of a curious neighbor trying to play the hero. He didn’t need any cops showing up. This was to be a private visit.

He knocked again, harder and more deliberate. A light came on inside followed by one on the back porch. Finally, he was getting some attention.

She opened the door the few inches the chain would allow. “What are you doing here?”

“Trying to reason with you.” The chills left his body and a calm, radiant heat overtook him.

The door shut. The chain rattled. The door reopened. “You can’t just show up whenever you feel like it.” She let him in, more likely for her own comfort given the way she was dressed. Arms crossed in front of her chest, an act of modesty over a lacy piece of lingerie. He had seen it before. Shivers trembled through her, and she gripped her arms tighter. “What is it?”

He disregarded the tone in her voice, the condescending overture it carried. He ignored the body language that screamed for him to leave. He went to touch a ribbon that served as a strap.

She stepped back. “Please don’t—”

“Claire, we’re meant to be together.” His lack of control surprised him; his voice had risen in pitch with each word.

“You should leave.”

There was more to her words. And the way she was dressed. “You move on already?” He took steps forward, heading for her bedroom.

She grabbed his arm and pulled him back. She didn’t deny his accusation, and she refused to look at him when she did speak. “It was your choice. I gave you the option.”

He swore her eyes misted over. “Not really much of one.”

“You should go.”

He shook his head as if it would bury the jealousy. But the fact there was someone else here, lying in her bed, waiting on her to come back…

He would do what he came to do—regardless. He had too much to lose.

Interview with Carolyn Arnold:
What was the hardest character in book to write? The easiest?

I’d have to say it was emotionally hard writing most of the characters in my latest release, In the Line of Duty (Detective Madison Knight series). With them facing the loss of fallen brother, a friend, a husband, each of them presented unique challenges to ensure that the direness of the situation was hitting the page and emotionally impacting my readers.

Did you start the first book with a series in mind, or did it just happen?

Ties That Bind is the first book in the Detective Madison Knight series, and when I wrote it, I did so with a series in mind.

How did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I started writing when I was a teenager but it was around the time a lot of changes take place in a person’s life. For me, I fell in love, got married, moved across the province, and then slipped into the role of a wife. I was working full-time, too, and writing was pushed to the background.

Yet despite all the changes, I still thought it would be quite the accomplishment to write a full-length novel.

What advice would you give to struggling writers that are ready to give up?

Writing is a lot of work. Publishing is even more work.

Just focus on why you write and let your passion guide you. If you’re published and struggling, focus on the readers who love you—those are the people you are writing for.

How do you overcome every writer's worst nightmare of having writer’s block?

I’m not sure I believe in writer’s block, but I do believe in stress and it’s a creativity killer! To overcome stress, I step back and take a break. Going for a walk helps. If the stress seems really overwhelming, I might even take a few days away from a book. Also, be brave enough to adjust your schedule if it’s too overloaded.

book blurb

Driven by fear and desperate to protect her family, Samantha is forced to leave Chicago and everything she’s worked to achieve, only to start over by tossing a dart-at-the-map. The Georgia townsfolk’s true Southern charm is the unexpected prescription needed to heal her soul, and the sexy carpenter who touches her heart are distractions she didn’t plan on, but they might offer her a chance at a new life, if she can let go of her past.

Town heartbreaker Spencer Malloy isn’t looking for anything serious. His days are perfect working as a contractor, attending his nephew’s baseball games, or taking him fishing. He never expects to fall for the big city girl, Samantha. She’s not his type, timid and closed off, but in her unguarded moments, he’s intrigued by the woman he can’t get out of his mind. The urge to get closer to her grows stronger each day, and when the shadow of evil resurfaces, he vows to protect Samantha, even if it means abandoning his home and joining her on the run.

When confronted by the man who’s bent on revenge, Samantha must choose between running again to save the people she loves, or, if she has the strength, to stay and fight for her new life.

excerpt

“Here it is.” Jenny announced. She stopped the car in front of an old white house with peeling paint and looked over at Sam whose eyes began to fill with tears.

“Like I said, it needs some work. When Pete got sick, no one really paid much attention to the house. It’s been sitting here idle for a while. His boys just couldn’t bring themselves to sell it at first, and then...”

“No, it’s perfect,” Sam’s voice sounded watery. “It’s the first house I’ve ever owned.”

After fighting off the foolish tears, Sam climbed out of the car, strolled through the freshly cut grass, and up to what could be a beautiful porch. Jenny unlocked the door as she chattered away about the house, but Sam wasn’t listening. This was it, her new home.

Entering through the wood and glass front door, Sam stepped into a little hallway and felt her heart swell. The inside was small and cozy. The perfect place to sit and feel safe from the outside world.

“Excuse me, earth to Sam. Do you want to see the rest of the house?”

Sam turned, face warm. “Yes, sorry. Lead the way.”

Jenny led her down the hall to show her the kitchen, which had a wonderful view of the backyard, they moved through the dining room and then the upstairs before returning to the den. It was a wonderful little house, so much more than what she imagined for herself.

A car backfired out on the main road and Sam jumped.

“Are you okay?” Jenny’s blue eyes widened, her voice threaded with concern.

“Fine.” Sam let out a shaky breath and waited for her heart rate to return to normal. “I must’ve been so lost in all my plans for the house that I was in another world.”

Jenny gave her a warm smile, but continued to watch her with a crease between her perfect eyebrows.

“Should we be off to your office now?” Sam tried to sound relaxed.

Jenny beamed. “The papers are ready for you.”

Relief washed through Sam as the thrill of the sale seemed to distract Jenny from Sam’s nervous behavior. She led the way out the door and took a deep breath of country air. It was going to be okay here. No one knew where she was. Not her family. Not her best friend. No one. She glanced over her shoulder at the little white house, which for her, symbolized so much more than a new house. She was home.

Benny the Jumping Bull Color Bouncy Horse: Red by WALIKI

Super Benny is an adorable red bull bouncer. It is kind of like the hopper ball but he has legs. He works just the same though. My 2 year old Grand Son loves his bouncer. I love that while he is having a great time playing he is also getting exercise. My 4 year old Grand Daughter can also bounce on Benny. This is great for outside but can be played with inside. It comes with a hand pump to blow Benny up. It also came with 2 extra plastic plugs to keep the air in. This is easy to deflate by pulling the plug out and rolling the air out. Great for storing or taking on the go. The rubber is super strong. We have a lot of trees in the back yard so small sticks are all over, Benny received not punctures or cuts from the sticks.

I received this product for free but am not required to post a review for it. But it just so cute I cannot help myself.
