EXCERPTS (Exclusive Excerpt):

“Ladies, move into the kitchen,” Greggory ordered as one of the cakies squealed. The three cakies dashed from the tearoom to the kitchen. Miss Popham, on the other hand, reached for a broom that was still in the corner, ready for a final sweeping after the room was set up, and brandished it in her fist.

“You should go, too,” Greggory said.

“No.”

They shared a glance. He could see her resolution. “Very well, but if it gets bad, I want you to run to the bakery and telephone the police.”

She nodded and handed him the broom, then reached for a couple of the vases. He wondered what she planned to do with them. Throw them like rocks? Moving forward, he pulled open the curtain.

Outside, he saw only one man, young, blond, squat-formed. Unfortunately, his position on the sidewalk drew Greggory’s attention to detailed chalk drawings on the pavement outside the window that had been unlocked the night of the murder. Someone had been busy earning a few coins telling the story of Manfred Cross.

“Victor Carter,” Miss Popham said, with the air of someone who’d rather spit than speak.

“Violet’s brother?” Greggory risked turning away for a moment.

“Unbalanced and a little bit violent. Probably like his father,” Miss Popham said.

“We really need more men on the premises,” Greggory muttered. “Security, at least.”

Victor put his nose against the glass, then pointed at Miss Popham and laughed. Greggory handed her the broom and decided to go outside to confront the young man, to lead him away from the tea shop if possible.

He strode out of the tearoom, leaving Miss Popham to gape behind him.

Apor Easy One Touch Universal Car Phone Holder

I really like this phone mount. Not only does it hold my phone but it's design is unique to any phone mounts I have seen before This one folds down  when not in use and really looks like a computer mouse and about the size of one also. It has a large suction cup that will mount to the dash or the window of the car. When in the folded position push the button and the holder basically springs to life setting itself up into the position to hold your phone. It has side "arms" to hug your phone, these arms have a layer of foam which not only help to hold the phone it also protects from scratches on the sides of the phone. The "head" where you phone lies is fully adjustable to 360 degrees. You can turn it in any direction you like. I am the type of person who likes to take videos with my phone while riding int he car, in places I have never been or If I see something interesting. This mounts below my camera so I just just adjust the mount to where my camera is getting a good shot and hit record. No more having to hold the camera. Also great for hands free calling and if using the GPS on my phone.

IDGIRL Big Metal Accessories Statement Bead Alloy Necklaces

I am not really sure what my expectations were when I ordered this. I must say it was a lot more in most aspects and in some just not quite as much. Not to say this this isn't stunning and beautiful because it is. It is definitely a eye catcher. You really want to make sure you wear this necklace with a solid color outfit, any color will make it glow, I think dark colors would be better though if you really want it to stand out. It is not real heavy but it is heavier then I like. It is a bit stiff for me too, I am always in motion so this was not my perfect necklace. It is beautiful, it is very blingy, it is very well made, so basically my complaints are not because of the necklace it is because of personal preference. The necklace comes in a really nice gift box with a bow already on front, for easy gift giving. The necklace basically has 5 layers, all of the layers have clear rhinestones in them in some way. It definitely catches the light. Great piece for fancy nights out, but I would not say it would be great for casual dress, a little over powering for that.

Virtual Name Before the Masses Tour for In Defense of the Moth or A Meaningless Dance in Blinding Heat and Light by Johnny Newport

In Defense of the Moth
or
A Meaningless Dance in Blinding Heat and Light
by Johnny Newport

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Literary Fiction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

The Moon...

It is said the moon’s spell can move us and nobody understands her pull like Johnny Gomez.

Johnny, a devil-may-care and fatalistic salesman, remains tethered to his privileged life by a love for his children, his career and the moon—and not necessarily in that order. In fact, it’s Johnny’s lifelong passion for the moon, through both obsessive, independent study and a communal involvement in an astronomy society, that serves as the only outward distraction as a life of standard struggles waxes into a burgeoning crisis.

Until one night Johnny finds that the moon—his preferred method of self-medication-- no longer exists...but for him only and not anyone else.

Or so it seems, leaving Johnny’s continued marriage with reality to hinge on his rediscovery of the moon!

If you like allegories and/or philosophical apologies for acute insanity, grab “In Defense of the Moth or A Meaningless Dance in the Blinding Heat and Light” and join the eclipse.

Excerpt Two:

“I walked past a block of shuttered buildings. Most I noticed had been shuttered for a long time, but the last office was a more recent failure. It was a beauty salon last I remembered. I reached the street corner where the tall street lamp was planted in the sidewalk and I gazed upward. A flutter of moths danced to the low hum of energy the light created. It wasn’t much and it wasn’t for long as they would be dead soon, but at least without the light of the moon they had the luck of having a substitute for their meaning, even if artificial, through man’s production.

They owe us one, I thought.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Johnny Newport (The Moth) is carrying the consciousness of the oft-failed man native to 2016. Strictly from a visual standpoint he looks like he may be kept in a nice package, but this is not so. Johnny Newport has two feet on the warpath and probably smells like last night’s street tacos.

Johnny knows that his devil-may-care attitude is unfair—to himself and to others—but this is precisely the origin for the voice of an unbridled generation of privilege; the 21st-century-livers that intimately know they have squandered (squandered what? How can we say definitively and with any assurance despite knowing that a squandering has, indeed, befallen?), and will continue to do so, happily.

Otherwise about me, I studied at the University of Texas at Austin, have spent the last two years in The Writer's Path program at SMU (Southern Methodist University, Dallas) and have applied to a handful of low-res MFA programs for fall of '16.

Short story publications in 2015 were:

* Mr. Franklin’s Heartbreaking Sympathy (The Speculative Book, anthology)

* La Tortuga, (Limestone, University of Kentucky MFA journal)

* He, Who Controls the Spices (Euphemism, Illinois State University graduate journal)

* I Blame Lolita (Moth magazine, Ireland's premiere literary review)
* Letter to the Jew's Mom (The Vehicle, Eastern Illinois University online journal)

Interview with Johnny Newport
As a kid did you write or make up stories? I don’t think I did much of either, to be honest. I read all manner of books, however, and was a consistent reader from the earliest days I can remember being able to read until now.

Where does most of your Character inspiration come from? Most of my character inspiration comes directly from my life and people I either know or indirectly from amalgamations of people I know.

Do some qualities of your characters come from real people? Absolutely. All of them, I would say, because my characters are slaves to the human form and condition. I do not have enough creativity or wit or intelligence or divine inspiration to invent new or hitherto unknown qualities so I mostly co-opt qualities I experience from other people. The rest are qualities I have, good, bad or indifferent.

What was the inspiration for your book? The inspiration for my book was a negative one. I was forcing myself into a sabbatical from drink and drug and was in a miserable, white-knuckle state. I thought it a good time to catch up on reading but found that, with every book I picked up, I could not stay with it and would quit within a chapter or two. This went for every style and genre of book I tried and eventually got to the point of frustration that I vented to a friend. My friend told me it was the Universe’s way of telling me it was time to write again (I’d laid the pen down circa 2011 to try and save my insanity), and so I did. The miserable state I was in thus inspired me.

What is your favorite spot to write? My favorite spot to write was on a chaise lounge I had in my living room, between the hours of 10:00pm to around 2:00am, Friday through Sunday. I did a lot of my self-editing (pre-editing?) at the flagship Half Price Books in Dallas.

What advice would you give budding writers? If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times, but read as much as you possibly can get away with.

Book Blast for Fibers by Jennifer-Crystal Johnson

Fiber
by Jennifer-Crystal Johnson

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Science Fiction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Anna Reynolds is caught up in the middle of a secret interdimensional government agreement... and she doesn't even know it.

There's a medical anomaly loosely dubbed Morgellons disease afflicting a number of people. Symptoms include open sores that produce colorful string-like fibers, fatigue, and nightmarish visions of shadowy figures. No one knows where it came from. No one knows what causes it. There is no cure.

When Anna begins having nightmares and waking hallucinations of the shadow people, her uneasiness about her condition grows. Enlisting the help of her doctor and some friends, Anna is determined to find out what's really going on and why Morgellons is such a mystery.

With her health declining and doubts about whom she can trust, is Anna doomed to become a slave to her condition? Or will she and her unlikely group of would-be heroes come through, saving her... and, ultimately, the world?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Three:
The twinkling sound of the wind chimes gave an eerie undertone to the night, the wind blowing through the trees and the darkness seeming more intense than usual. Anna wrapped her coat tightly around herself, walking briskly back toward home. She usually didn’t walk anywhere, especially at night, but she’d decided to get some fresh air and needed time to think. Walking was always good for that, even if it was a little cold and getting dark so much earlier.
Reaching into her pocket for her keys, she approached the front door. The porch light was out – she must’ve forgotten to turn it on before she left. Trying to work through feeling alone and fending off paranoia, she rummaged in her purse for her keys and retrieved them just as her foot hit something on her front porch. Of course she couldn’t see, but it sounded and felt like a box of some kind.
She pulled her cell phone out of her purse and turned on the flashlight app to see what was happening. Shining the light on her porch, she saw that it was, indeed, a box. A mystery box, she thought. As if my life couldn’t get any stranger.
She unlocked the front door and flipped the light switch, but nothing happened. Trying to juggle her phone and the box at the same time, she walked into the house, set the box down, and went into the living room to try the light there. Also nothing. Shaking her head and doing her best to quiet her thoughts, she made her way into the garage with her phone and found the breaker box. She flipped the switch and the lights came on without a problem.
Things are getting entirely too weird around here, she thought, cautiously making her way back upstairs to her entry where the box sat. She switched off her flashlight app and stood still for a few moments, listening to see if she could hear anything to indicate that someone was in the house. She didn’t think so because her door had been locked, but she was so scared she could hear her heartbeat pounding in her ears. Everything else was silent.
Satisfied that no one was in her house, she picked up the box and took it into her kitchen. She set it on the counter and inspected it. There was a note taped to the top of it. She unfolded it and read aloud, “Trust no one.”
My Review:
This book literally had my skin crawling. In the book Anna Reynolds skin is breaking out with sores that itch and take forever to heal. At times there are red and blue fibers coming from the sores. She also feel like things are crawling under the skin. She decides to go to the hospital and have the fibers analyzed in the lab instead she is tossed into the psychiatric ward. While in the hospital she meets a doctor who is studying her condition as it is happening all over. They give the disease a name but no one knows where it cam from, how it started, and there is no cure for it. Anna agrees to being a test subject so to speak. Now it is up to Anna, the doctor, and her friends to figure out what this disease and try and save Anna. And also uncover the secret inter-dimensional government agreement along the way.
This really is a intense book it's probably not for the really squeamish. It does grab you and drag you in holding you with the little blue and red fibers.
This is my first book by Jennifer-Crystal Johnson. I really liked her writing style an they way she kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. I love how her descriptions are to the point instead of filling you with a bunch or stuff you that really has nothing to do with this story or anything else for that matter. I really liked her characters. She has done a great job of really bringing them all to life. I also loved the way that she wrote this story well enough to make you wonder if this could actually happen.
I was given my copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
