I have heard about cast iron cleaners like this before and have wanted to try them, but I was afraid. My pans are quite old and I have cooked many years in them to get them seasoned just right and was terrified of undoing all of that. I got this in the mail, opened the little box it comes in looked at it, folded it back up and stuck it back in the box, still afraid.
I took it off my desk and into the kitchen and set it on the window sill next to my other dish implements, and walked away, still afraid of it.
I made a Cheesy potato smoked sausage casserole for dinner, you cook the sausage in the pan, dump the boiled potatoes in and pour a roux made of cheesy goodness on then bake. Then serve in the pan. Now first off have you ever cooked smoked sausage? It makes a real nice gooey sticky mess, them dump other stuff in a back that gooey mess with more gooey cheesy goo and you really got a mess, plus setting it on a table and serving out of it, then having to wait a little after dinner for it to cool enough to put the left overs into a storage dish. Yep you got a real mess on your hands. I make this a lot usually I have to fill the pan with hot water set it back on the stove and boil it a little to get the goo to soften up then scrub and scrub and then scrub some more to get my pan clean.
So being tired that night I decided to get over my fear of using the iron cleaner. I am one happy girl. It worked like a charm. I did pour hot water in the pan and let it set a couple of minutes before starting, but only took a few minutes and I had a clean pan, and still had all my years of seasoning still in the pan. I love this Hudson Cast Iron Cleaner, and will be buying a couple to use as gifts for my girls, who I have given cast iron pans too.
I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion.
