Ghost Guardians by S. Peters-Davis

All Hallows’ Eve Silent Night

by S. Peters-Davis

“I gotta make a quick trip to the restroom. Can I use the flashlight?” I asked, glancing at Rory as he tilted his head. “Oops.” We’d made a pact not to talk, experience the night of stargazing with each other in silence.

Rory handed me the flashlight. “Remember, no talking when you come out. Sasha, confirm.”

“Got it.” I nodded and then rushed into the dimly lit park restroom. Rory and I had come to the Haggerset Lake Park for the last four years to stargaze on Halloween, ever since we’d graduated high school. We loved our creep-night, the one night we dropped whatever we were doing and wherever we were to come back to each other.

A rustle outside, like something massive falling on the ground, startled me. I hurried with my business and ran out to check on Rory. He stood waiting for me. I slid the light beam his way, and he smiled, pointing toward the ground.

I didn’t say a word at the blanket and cooler strewn over the dewy grass, assuming he’d tripped over something. We picked up the stuff and headed away from the tree line to the beach by the lake—the perfect place to lay for an open view of the star-ridden sky.

We spread the blanket and sat. I dropped the flashlight beside me, and then pulled the wine and glasses from the cooler. Rory grabbed my hand, so I looked at him. He shook his head. I set the bottle next to me, thinking we’d open it later.

He stretched out on the blanket and patted the spot next to him. The moon cast enough light to see his shadowed face and body. I flipped to my backside, sliding close to him. His hand found mine and our fingers intertwined.

An electrical spark charged through me, like what happened whenever Rory touched me. I missed him during the long months we’d attended separate colleges, and this would be our last semester apart.

His breath sucked in as he pointed upward. A falling star streaked across the sky.

I gasped but remained silent as per our pact. An owl hooted in a tree on top of the hill. Crickets set a rhythm, adding to the croaking bullfrogs all around us. I adored the sounds and smells of the night, just like Rory had admitted the first time we’d done this.

He squeezed my fingers, raised my hand to his warm moist lips, and kissed my palm. His tongue slithered up and down my wrist, making me giggle. Then his lips attached to my skin, and he sucked. My whole insides melted and fluttered at the same time. I panted, wanting more.

His body slid over mine, his moist lips kissing, nipping, and sucking over my neck. Every cell in my body responded, zinging sparks spiked through my veins. His tongue slathered my skin. My eyelids closed on automatic.

“Sasha!” Rory? His voice came from on top of the hill.

I opened my eyes wide and pushed against the body on top of me that looked just like Rory. He covered my mouth with his hand, and with his other, held both of mine above my head. The skin on his face shimmered and blurred as he leaned over me, close to my face. A thin forked tongue slithered from his mouth, licking my face.

“Sasha, are you there?” Rory shouted again from a distance.

I bucked but to no avail. The thing’s skin turned to scales, and its eyes glowed amber with narrowed pupils like a snake. Fins grew along its forearms.

I fought hard, struggling to free a hand and bucking to throw him off. My hand came free, and I reached for the wine bottle.

Footfalls pounded down the hill. The monster glanced up. I wrapped my fingers around the neck of the wine bottle and swung. The monster’s head snapped sideways, and his body dropped off of me.

Rory stood over us. “My gods, what the hell is that thing? It attacked me, and I woke up in the middle of the woods, afraid of what it had done to you.” He gave me a hand up.

A rancid odor burst through the air, and the creature’s body sizzled, like brats on a grill.

We stepped back as it turned into bright embers and then dust. Rory pulled me into his arms as the night breeze carried the smoky particles over the water.

“That thing looked just like you. It licked me.” I yanked the bottom of my T-shirt up to wipe my face and neck.

“You couldn’t tell it wasn’t me?”

“It never kissed me on the lips.” And I couldn’t help but wonder what it had planned on doing with me. “What do you think its end game was with me?”

Rory took a knee and extracted a small box from his shirt pocket. “Not this.” He turned, so the moonlight shone on the box, and then he flipped it open. A diamond sparkled. His gaze melded into mine as he asked, “Sasha, monster-slayer of All Hallow’s Eve, will you marry me?” He grinned, and then added, “Before some scary creature sweeps you off your feet?”

Book Description:

Bri’s intent—to work for her father, but ghosts, an old high school sweetheart, a downtrodden best bud, and a deceitful tormenter play havoc with her future.

Kyle broke it off with Bri before college but realizes he still harbors unrequited feelings for her. Then he discovers Bri’s ability and wants to keep her close, not just for himself, but as an asset for Spectral Paranormal Investigations.

Ghosts rely on Bri, Kyle confuses her, the best bud requires stability, and the bully deserves a punch in the face until they join forces on a mission to rescue the paranormal—those spirits left behind. Murder, mystery, and mayhem abound…in ghost-form.

Excerpt #3 (word count 434)

“I think I just saw Max’s mom outside, an older woman in a white pantsuit. Is that his mom?”

Kyle’s eyes widened, and then his brows folded inward as he shook his head. “His mom died about five years ago. There’s no adult here right now.”

Prickles chased up my arms and down my spine. Once in a while, a spirit appeared so full of life, like right now, it seemed a living person. Kyle continued to study me as if I’d lost my mind.

He stepped closer, and I thought he was going to put his arm around me. Instead, he lifted a picture frame off from a table. “This is Max’s mom.”

“Oh, she’s stunning.” And the woman I saw, wearing the same clothing. I quickly moved closer to the row of windows. “What a beautiful room. My mother would love this room for an office.” The moon had risen and cast a path of light across the water. “What a view.” The crystal against my sternum vibrated. Gloria shimmered into view, sobbing.

“He’s gone. Martin. He’s gone.” Her sad eyes searched mine. “Where could he have gone? We’ve never been apart.”

I looked at Kyle. He stood on the other side of me and would surely hear me. When I turned back to Gloria, she had vanished. What were the possibilities that Martin would step into the light without Gloria? He never left her side. Besides, they were both about getting justice before leaving the earth plane. He was all about protecting her. It didn’t make sense after all of these years of being stuck here that he would simply disappear.

“Bri.” Kyle grabbed my hand.

I glanced at him, sensing he’d been trying to get my attention before now. “Yes. Sorry.” The words came out a little breathy. The urgency of Martin missing overwhelmed me with questions. “I gotta go.” I pulled my hand from Kyle’s grasp and rushed from the room.

My Review:

At first I was a little iffy on this book, I have to admit. It started out kind of dragging a bit but that changed rather quickly and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I started getting to know the characters and the story line and I couldn't put the book down.

Bri sees, hears, and is able to interact with ghosts. Bri is an introvert, in school she never joined clubs or made many if any friends. Luke is Bri's best friend, he is also gay and hiding it from his family. He's a little to needy for my taste but he does have his good points. Bri and Luke are there for each other always with a shoulder or a hand.

Kyle was in serious like with Bri during senior year of high school but broke it off. Max well he's kind of a jerk, but Kyles best friend.

Now all 4 are back in town after college and Kyle is rethinking his decision of letting Bri go at the end of high school.

This is where the story starts off and where the ghosts pretty much immediately come in. Martin and Gloria were going to get married. The only problem was this was in the 60's and Martin was a black man and Gloria a white woman. As they were leaving town to move to Michigan so they could be together they were killed. After all these years Bri can see them, she is the first person ever. They want justice and want Bri to help them get it.

The book is a mix between, rekindling a old romance, murder, mystery and so much more. S Peteres-Davis has brought us a really good story and a great set of characters even if you do want to punch Max.

About the Author

I’ve spent roughly 19 years in the Hospitality Industry and my favorite part about it is the challenges and the ability to constantly learn. I started out in the culinary world, and I’ve created everything from intricate wedding cakes to catering for 10,000; as well as that one time the Royals won the World Series and the parade brought in about 800,000 people to my hotel area.

That was a crazy day!

I’m an artist on all levels; I love to paint, weld, design, decorate, build websites, blog and even write books. I approach life as a learning experience and I never pass up the opportunity to learn something new or try new cuisine.

For the last 7 years, I’ve exclusively been working on the wedding planning book and have seen a lot happening throughout the industry. I’ve had a lot of couples want to be able to book a wedding planner to help coordinate and guide them, but with rising costs in all areas of life it seems the wedding budgets get smaller while all the other wedding vendors raise their prices.

After spending years collecting experience, data, and memories I’ve been able to compile a comprehensive and extensive wedding planner to help all budgets.

The best part for you—you’ll have the guidance, experience, and knowledge of my 19 years behind you as you work through the Wedding Planner. Best part for your budget—it won’t cost you $4,000 for full wedding planning!

The Heart of Rutherford by Melanie A. Smith blitz

The Heart of Rutherford
Melanie A. Smith
(Life Lessons, #1-3)
Publication date: October 8th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Come visit the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital, where three steamy romances unfold, now with bonus epilogues…

Never Date a Doctor

Some lessons are more fun when learned the hard way…

What’s the first rule of nurse’s club? Never date a doctor. Which Sasha Suvorin has no intention of doing, since she’s a nurse at Rutherford Hospital by day and working on her master’s degree by night. Who has time for dating, much less dating someone you work with? Bad idea much?

That is, until the sexy British Dr. Caleb Thompson starts at her hospital. It doesn’t help that he’s exactly her type with his dark hair, blue eyes, and rockin’ bod. Or that he’s not your typical arrogant and bossy surgeon. But Sasha isn’t easily convinced, and she soon discovers Dr. Hottie has a past that puts a stop to whatever she might have been feeling before anything starts between them.

Unfortunately, working together means facing temptation. Every. Single. Day. Is Sasha strong enough to resist what might be the perfect man? And if she gives in, will Cal’s past stay in the past? Sasha may be used to playing it safe, but life has a way of teaching its lessons … one way or another.

Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends

Even when you know better, sometimes it’s simply too tempting…

Hospital work isn’t for the faint of heart. Becca Dillon knows that, having worked as a medical assistant in the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital for longer than she cares to think about. What she does care to think about is having fun, gossip, and guys. Her favorite of the three. And why stick to one, when you can sample them all?

That’s exactly her plan when a workplace crush on a mysterious bad-boy orderly takes a steamy turn. But Vincent DeMarco is nothing like she expected, and before she knows it, she’s falling hard. She wants him in ways she’s never wanted anyone before, but there’s something he’s keeping from her. Something that’s holding him back. And Becca is going to find out what.

Even though she knows that bad boys don’t make good boyfriends, he seems like he might be so much more. Will her quest unlock the truth? Or will it end their relationship? Either way, Becca’s world is about to change.

You Can’t Buy Love

Money can’t buy happiness, but neither can pride …

Julianna Magnusson is tired of working at her thankless job as a nurse practitioner for the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital. Tired of having no time for her own life. But most of all, she’s tired of pretending that she’s happy about it. So when her boss insists she attend the annual hospital charity gala, spending money on a dress to impress a bunch of stuck-up snobs doesn’t exactly sound like her idea of a good time.

Still, she makes an appearance. Only to meet a handsome stranger named Noah who stops her from drunkenly confronting the man who owns the hospital about all the issues at work. Then Noah does so much more, giving her a night of passion that she’ll never forget. Still, Jules has no intentions of taking it further. As timely as meeting him was, Noah is many things she’d never want in a man: Clearly elitist, arrogant, and bossy, he’s nothing more than a one-night stand.

Which was a great plan until he turns up at her hospital with a mind to shake things up in a way that could affect her career and her decision to write him off, igniting an epic battle between them as the chemistry that sparked the initial attraction transforms into a battle of wills. Their clash could jeopardize everything Jules has worked for — or, if she can look past her own pride, it might lead to everything she needs. In the fight between what we think we want and what life has in store for us, what wins?

EXCERPT:

Never Date a Doctor

“Would you like to hear what I want?”

I close my eyes and give a slight shake of my head. “Will it change anything?” I open my eyes and look up at him. Mistake. He’s painfully, heartbreakingly beautiful as he looks down longingly into my eyes.

“I guess I won’t know until I’ve told you,” he says simply. “But I don’t want to overwhelm you. I can only imagine how the wolves have been treating you while I was away.” He gives a faint smile.

“Fine. What you do want?”

His eyes light up at the question, and his heated gaze pins me to the spot. “A good many things. But just one that you need to know about.” His hand reaches up, and he strokes a finger down my cheek. “Put simply: You. From the moment I saw you. Even though I knew it would be messy on many levels. Though I’m afraid I haven’t behaved entirely honorably. And I do understand where you’re coming from. But you should know that I’m not going to give up.”

Masqueraded by Alexis Dees

Masqueraded: Act One
by Alexis Dees
Genre: Dark Fantasy, Urban Thriller

Being haunted by a sinister circus wasn't unusual for the spunky Estela Nannette Sinclair. Neither was the abuse she faced from her adoptive parents. But one was just a dream and the other would resolve in two weeks upon her eighteenth birthday... or so she mistakenly presumed. Her life was a complex façade of lies that hid how deeply she's entangled with three powerhouses of dark magic. Had she been that ignorant of the masquerade before her? An ignorance that wasn't bliss. And an ignorance that meant her corpse would likely decorate an amusement attraction in a mere two weeks' time.

**On Sale for only $2.99!**

Alexis Dees is a lifelong creative writer and storyteller of all tales enchanting and unsettling. She focuses on stories that maintain a balance of whimsical fantasy, morbid darkness, and offbeat eccentricities... which sometimes ties into the matter of amusement attractions, an industry she's been involved with professionally for nearly ten years as an entertainer. As all sensible intellects do, instead of pursuing a traditional 9 to 5, she's ran away with the circus more than once; and when she's not tied up in aerial silks or reading the Brothers Grimm for the millionth time, she's likely traipsing about an abandoned amusement park.

Maddox: The Wild Ones (Jokers MC Book 3) by Jessie Cooke

Ok this series just get better and better. I wasn't 100% impresssed by book 1 Blackheart but after reading Gabriel and now Maddox I am hooked. Jessie Cooke is a great MC Romance author and I love her books.

In this book Blackheart's sister is missing and so far the Joker's MC has not been able to find any clues. They could just be too close since it is on of their own. They put in a call to another friendly MC and Maddox arrives. Maddox is a PI in California. While in Louisiana he meets Carmella. He gets more than he bargained for when he starts having feelings for her. She is the first woman he has had feelings for since his wife and son were killed by a drunk driver. All is going well until he finds out that Carmella is the Daughter of the Mafia boss who just so happens be suspect number.

This book is filled with twists turn and surprises like Carmella doing whatever she can to help Maddox with answers about her family.

Blizzard (The Brotherhood Journals) by Addison Jane

Blizzard (The Brotherhood Journals)
by

Blizzard is another Awesome MC book by Addison James.  I am really enjoying all of the books in all of the series featuring the Brothers by Blood MC. This book was included in the set of The Club Girl Diaries that I was given as part of a book tour and I am so glad it was. I have to admit I am kind of in love with Blizzard. He is a man that seems to take care of his family both blood and MC with no second thoughts.

Earlier in the Club Girl Diaries series he meets Rose who seems to have stabbed the whole MC in the back but there is just something about her. Now she is under the clubs protection and as much as he wants her away from him the feelings to pull her near are stronger. This story is basically how their feeling grow into love, oh yea and that his estranged mother shows up asking for help asking from Blizzard and the MC to help her to get her Daughter back who was kidnapped by another MC.

Blizzard's mom took off when he was a kid leaving him to be raised by his drunken abusive father. Now she is back. She is part of another MC and has a daughter Blizzard knew nothing about. Blizzard and the Brothers decide to help but it is Rose who will do the most work. She is trained to be a stripper to get the VP of the MC's attention so they can try and get the girl back. She is a crucial part but she has to make sure they do not suspect her as being a part of the Brothers by Blood. All goes well for  while but they do learn she is there as a spy. Now Blizzard and the MC has to not only get the girl but also Rose out and all of them keep breathing as well.

Can't wait to read the next books in these Series. I Love Addison Jane's writing. She is doing a great job of making the characters in the books real people. I also love that these books can be red as stand alones but are so much better as a series. You get to follow each of their stories through out. The Characters are not just in one book.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Gabriel: The Wild Ones (Jokers MC Book 2) by Jessie Cooke

Gabriel is the 2nd book in the Joker's MC series by Jessie Cooke. I wasn't really sold on this series with book 1 Blackheart but oh my has she stepped this series up with this book. I am not saying Blackheart wasn't good it was just kind of slow or me. I love Jessie Cooke's books and I also love that she connects other series into every book, she also adds to her character lists but keeps the old ones around as well and you get to follow them like old friends.

In this book Gabriel is the star. He was adopted by the MC after his parents deaths and has been pretty much raised in the MC. Now he is a full patched member. He also has a girlfriend, Patrice, who unbeknownst to him is about to turn some members upside down, especially the MC President Blackheart. One night Gabriel is partying to hard and has to much to drink. Patrice goes to Blackheart and tells him she is his daughter and wants his help to find out who murdered her mother when she was just a baby, that is if he didn't do it himself. Blackheart who doesn't remember the one night stand with her mother but can see the resemblance to her of himself, and agrees to help.

As with all of Jessie Cooke's books there is twists & turns, danger and romance. Some sex and lots of Biker bad language but I loved it all.

My Review:
In the book Kate has just lost her father to suicide but cannot comes to grips with it. After the will is read she inherits a piece of property and a house she knew nothing about. She goes on a personal journey to get to know her father better so she can understand the reasons for his suicide but all the time in her mind she feels he did not commit suicide.

When she gets to the house she inherits her life actually takes many turns. The house is dilapidated and falling down. While there she meets Evan Hastings. The man who lives next door to the property and the self appointed caretaker so to speak. Sh learns that not only did her father come to the property many times but also has a friendship with Evan.

Jealousy seems to rear its ugly head. There is an immediate connection between Kate and Evan but Kate cannot get past the part that Evan knows a lot about her father that she never did. When Evan tries to let her into the friendship he had with her father she blows up and stalks off, multiple times may I add.

In the end she feels she pulled even tighter towards murder. The story is filled with twists and turns. The narration was pretty good. As with any book there were parts I enjoyed and Parts I did not but it was still worth my time.

GUEST POST from Helen Starbuck,
author of LEGACY OF SECRETS

I love my characters. A plot without characters the reader (and author) can relate to isn’t worth reading in my opinion. I draw from my nursing and writing background, my love of reading, and my counseling psychology degree to flesh out my characters. I write what I love to read, romantic suspense and mystery. Overhearing a conversation, seeing a photograph, walking and letting my mind wander, listening to music, and attending writing retreats and seminars are all sources of inspiration for characters and plots. And sometimes characters and plots just pop out of my imagination fully grown.

Legacy of Secrets, my new book, is set in Eastern Colorado, a ranching and farming area made up of both large and small towns. As a native Coloradan, I’m familiar with the setting. The town of Ardwell, Colorado, is a figment of my imagination, but representative of small towns in the state.

The idea for the book was the result of a writing seminar where the presenter spread photos of iconic paintings on a table, asked participants to choose one that spoke to him or her, and write for fifteen minutes. I chose one that showed an old house sitting in the midst of a field of overgrown grass. That house became the abandoned Earnshaw family home, which figures prominently in the story about a father with many secrets.

I wanted to tackle the subject of suicide and the effects it has on those left behind. As children I don’t believe we ever really know our parents. We think we do, but we know them as parents not ‘people.’ I wanted to explore a daughter’s grief and her discovery of the many secrets her father had kept. I wanted to explore a small community and it’s residents, and how these affect my main character, Kate Earnshaw, during her journey to discover who her father was and why he committed suicide.

My next romantic suspense novel is, Finding Alex. A woman assaulted, left for dead, and now amnesic, may be the only surviving victim of a killer who’s targeting prostitutes and leaving their bodies without fingertips to complicate their identification. She has her fingertips, but Denver homicide detective Blake Halloran must try to identify her and hope her memory returns so he can find the killer. I think readers will enjoy it.
